Why are my radiators not working!

Have bled them all, all fine no air pockets, have reset the boiler. Had a new boiler fitted 2 years ago but no problems since then. They’ve just suddenly decided to not get hot. Really really don’t want to fork out for a gas engineer this close to Christmas - is there anything I can do?

What’s the water pressure in your boiler reading at ?

plumtreebroke · 30/11/2023 09:12

Is there a controller on the radiator that has been accidentally set really low.

DoAWheelie · 30/11/2023 09:13

Have you checked the temperature dials on the boiler and on the radiators?

CharityShopChic · 30/11/2023 09:13

All of them or just one? All of them not getting hot indicates to me a boiler/pressure problem. Just one not working could be a dodgy valve or something - we currently have this issue but it's a blocked pipe under the floor...

This. If you just bled you may need to let more water in to bring the pressure up, should be a valve on pipework somewhere.

Ostryga · 30/11/2023 09:13

Water pressure fine, all controls as normal. 2 of the radiators work - one in downstairs loo next to boiler and towel radiator directly above in bathroom. So it can heat some, just not all. V annoying.

Is one of the incoming pipes hot but the rad is stone cold? Sounds like the TRV might just have got stuck if you turned them all to zero in summer - you can unscrew the TRV a little and pull the pin out without having to drain down every rad etc or give it a (not hard!) tap with a hammer to see if the pin releases

Ostryga · 30/11/2023 09:15

This is boiler. Tbh I have no idea what any of the controls do

Is that the pressure gauge on the right? It looks low.

snazzychair · 30/11/2023 09:17

I'd get your plumbing company to come in and balance the radiators, ours did this for free. Might be the pressure is low

EVHead · 30/11/2023 09:17

Looks like the pressure is too low.

Google the name of the boiler and you should find the instructions online.

Saisong · 30/11/2023 09:18

Yes check the rad valves as @thelonemommabear says. We have to do this to ours occasionally as the pin gets stuck down. A light tap usually does the trick. There are videos online.
You can try and do it happening by opening and closing the valves periodically, even when rads are not in use (over summer).

4naansjeremy · 30/11/2023 09:19

The pressure is fine on that boiler. You say two rads are working? How many rads aren’t? I’m a heating engineer and I’m sure you can sort this without a call out charge

All the other ones - so dining room, living room, bedrooms and other bathroom one upstairs.

Have done the pressure thing anyway!

Pins are up on the radiators so not that.

The two that are working, are they fully hot? If they are could you turn them off and then see if any of the cold rads get hot in the next 15-20 minutes and report back?

They do get fully hot. Right will do that and report back.

Do you have curtains hanging over the radiators valves? That affects the radiators heat as they can't work efficiently with the curtains hanging over the valves.
I had the same problem and it turned out to be that.

StarlightLady · 30/11/2023 09:35

My pressure gauge got stuck, so it appeared to be much higher than it actually was. The top up shifted it.

Ostryga · 30/11/2023 09:38

Boiler is on - but just the tiniest amount of steam coming from the outlet outside. Usually when hot tap is on it pumps it out. No sign of any warmth in rads so far

Parky04 · 30/11/2023 09:48

Maybe a problem with the 3 Port Valve. This controls the flow of water into the radiators.

WithIcePlease · 30/11/2023 10:02

Could be that your pump isn't working properly? That would explain why 2 - possibly near the start of the system- are working

Ostryga · 30/11/2023 10:09

There’s no water moving through the other radiators at all.

When were they last working?

Honestly no idea! I haven’t used the heating since maybe March? First time today to put them on
