like going on holiday with them, my dh gets on great with my dad and when they do for a drink they go together, and they both love fishing. we all love to go to majorca on holiday so we go together, and we have a ds nearly 2 and we get alot of babysitting help from them. me and my mum enjoy going to aquaaerobics so we go together.
but people in our village have been calling us odd.
just because we are really close.
i hope im this close to ds when he grows up.
are they just envious?
or is it because we live next door to them? them amount of times people of said oh i couldn't do that[ie live next door] in a snotty sniffy way

well this will have you al thinking i am wierd, but i am a normal 28 year old woman whos life hasnt panned out how it should

i live with my parents, along with my dh and dd. i spend most of my free time with my mum, go to aqua aerobics every thursday, with my other normal 28 year old friends and have applied for planning permission to turn my parents out house, into a house, so i will be living here for the rest of our lives.

it does get stressful living here at times, but we are saving money to build the house.

oh, plus i work in our family business and spend 3 days a week with my dad and dh there.

no we are not inbreds or strange, just close.
we lost my brother 15 years ago, so we know how important family is.

good for you spotthedog, if you are happy there is no reason to stop it.

(aqua aerobics is tonight if you want to come)

Spotthedog- we live next door to my dad!! When the house next to him came up for sale when we were looking, it was like fate!! And it has been great for all of us! My mum died 5 years ago, and, although dad has a full-time job and an active social life, it has been great fun for him having the kids so close. He pops in every night for his dinner and to help with the baths etc. the kids adore him!! Its also soo handy for baby-sitting too! My DH is in the navy, so if dad wasn't there to take some of the strain I think I would go mad.

We have always been close (I'm an only child, and mum was ill for a lot of years), and thankfully dad and DH get on really well too- both into motorbikes etc! Dad had a minor stroke a few years ago, and that really opened my eyes to what was important. He would never leave his house, so at least I know if and when he is old or ill enough to need help, I am right here. Similarly he fixes our heating, or is often called upon to fix our car etc!

Don't understand why people would think there is anything weird or odd about it!! We rub along great and have gone on holiday together before too! But we're not in each other's pockets either. I think maybe they are jealous- I hope my kids have as good a relationship with me/ us when they are older. And my kids only have 1 grandpa, so I think it's great they get a chance to see him lots!

Wasn't 14:21 post a joke?
Why psot on AIBU if you so defensive about the situation?

myalias · 13/03/2008 14:32

Can I ask what made you decide to live next door to your parents?
I personally couldn't because a)I wouldn't want my parents to hear us having < shudder > noisy sex and b) sometimes we enjoy a bloody good row.

3missys · 13/03/2008 14:33

Oh here we go again....

lizandlulu · 13/03/2008 14:38

i get it alot about how handy it must be. in truth my mum probably had my dd less than live out grandparents. i try to tkae dd out of the house when i am not at work, to give mum some peace.

she does have her alot, but not as much as some of my friends parents.

spotthedog · 13/03/2008 14:40

jjj, yes same here, i think we get on so well as we have so many shared interests.
my mums retired and she really enjoys going to rhymetime at the library with us. and dh and dad enjoy cricket and fishing etc and of course going for a beer etc.

spotthedog · 13/03/2008 14:43

sounds more like your brother !

OP posts:
Joolyjoolyjoo · 13/03/2008 14:43

Lol, myalias!! My dad would need to have supersonic hearing as there is a good 100yards or so between our houses!

mrsruffallo · 13/03/2008 14:49

I don't have a brother, I am just trying to explain the image grown up children who are very involved with their parents have, and why people may think it's odd
I think you are being a bit rude and petulant. Maybe your temperament is the problem?
I get the feeling you are a bit odd-probably nothing to do with living next to your parents tho' so sorry YABU

HerReasonableness · 13/03/2008 14:52

LOL, this is getting VERY teenage!

spotthedog · 13/03/2008 14:52

i get the feeling your a knob, but hey ho, suppose you have a few bad apples.

OP posts:
mrsruffallo · 13/03/2008 14:54

lollipopmother · 13/03/2008 14:58
