So if you don’t drink, smoke, vape and are trying not to eat chocolate and other shit food, what do you do / have in the evenings to mark ‘adult’ time, or feel like you’re treating yourself?

aibu to think there’s only so many baths one can reasonably have…

Usually reading. Sometimes writing. Often gaming.

chosenone · 28/11/2023 20:08

Scented candle and a hot chocolate 👍

whatisforteamum · 28/11/2023 20:10

Same, or a nice fruit herbal tea instead of hot chocolate.

PermanentTemporary · 28/11/2023 20:13

Cooking something. I'm pretty happy to eat a flatbread or something, but tonight I roasted some kale with paprika and baked some chickpeas with lemon and spices - low effort really, effectively it's chucking some stuff on a baking tray with some oil, but the result is a really lovely hot bowlful that makes me feel well cared for.

Cuppa and a book, yoga, knitting, journalling.

TropDrôle · 28/11/2023 20:15

Cup of Earl grey and my book/jigsaw/ crochet.

Rotated based on what I fancy.

Right now I’m in bed with the electric blanket on, a woolly scarf wrapped around my shoulders, my red lamp on to protect my melatonin production and I’m about to read my book. It’s quiet, cosy and the perfect way to end the day.

NoItsStillNighttimeDarling · 28/11/2023 20:16

I watch something downstairs with DH then go to bed before him and either read or watch one of 'my programmes' before he comes to bed. It feels like such a treat even though I do it every night

Woahtherehoney · 28/11/2023 20:16

Cup of tea (usually decaf earl grey, sometimes peppermint) and my book. It’s the simple things that make me the happiest!

I earn extra money. Not much but it adds up over a month. (Have a look at the £10 a day threads)

Also, good tv shows. I've just started Big Little Lies which looks good so far.

Read.

Crunchymum · 28/11/2023 20:19

Reading, TV of my choice.

I do currently eat a dessert which will be stopping as part of a drastic health overhaul soon but tonight we had lemon meringue pie. Was delish!!

How much magnesium? I take a tablet in the morning 375mg. Should i be taking it at night?

NuffSaidSam · 28/11/2023 20:21

At this time of year, being cosy. PJ's, slippers, blankets, candle, fairy lights etc. Cup of tea. Peace and quiet. Might have a bit of chocolate too, but can leave that bit out if necessary.

4intheCorner · 28/11/2023 20:23

A cup of The Earl and a cinnamon bun 🤌

oranga · 28/11/2023 20:32

I have a pop up sauna tent so I get in that for 20 mins whilst watching telly. Afterwards a cold shower and drink a ton of water and moisturise. Niche but it's very relaxing!

I take 2 high strength at night to help me sleep

2mummies1baby · 28/11/2023 20:35

Non-alcoholic beer, nice lighting in the lounge, either watch something or read a book.

Carsarelife · 28/11/2023 20:39

Candle, cup of tea, cuddling with my dog

PieAndLattes · 28/11/2023 20:39

i Put my electric blanket on high for 15 minutes, get into bed, and read a trashy regency romance on my Kindle. I have to do a lot of ‘hard’ reading for work and it’s lovely to switch off my body and brain. It’s very soothing.

App13 · 28/11/2023 20:46

Green & Blacks hot chocolate

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 28/11/2023 20:51

Fruit, TV or a book, everyone leaving me along to my thoughts!

EarringsandLipstick · 28/11/2023 20:55

Ha! This all sounds lovely & quite idyllic.

Every. Single. Evening finds me running between kids' activities, mostly sport, often till 930 or later.

I get up very early to exercise so I often just about get my clothes off, teeth brushed & collapse into bed.

If I could, it would be a) reading in bed and b) actually watching a programme on TV, properly, sitting on the couch. Not half-catching up on my phone while doing a chore.

EdgarsTale · 28/11/2023 20:56

A really lovely dinner full of healthy foods. Afterwards, I light a scented candle & relax on the sofa. I have herbal teas & occasionally hot chocolate for a treat.

Rjahdhdvd · 28/11/2023 20:58

Watching a programme I really enjoy. A low calorie hot chocolate. A small treat with my cup of tea

@ssd my GP told me to take it at night

Member786488 · 28/11/2023 21:28

Thanks for all of these - it does seem that a cup of some kind of tea and a book is the go-to for many of you.

i guess I was hoping I’d missed something. I SO enjoy a glass or 2 of wine but am knocking it on the head for health reasons - I just can’t help finding the evenings lacking at the moment but I guess it’ll pass.
