So if you don’t drink, smoke, vape and are trying not to eat chocolate and other shit food, what do you do / have in the evenings to mark ‘adult’ time, or feel like you’re treating yourself?

aibu to think there’s only so many baths one can reasonably have…

It will OP! I'm only on tea / hot chocolate instead of wine as I'm pregnant, but I have got used to it (and I'm treating myself to nicer brands in lieu of wine spend).

Researching potential trips with movies I've seen a lot of times in the background. Thinking of presents/fun things to do with people

You just need to find somethinf new to look forward to so you can build a new routine. Perhaps get a selection box of herbal teas?

I like tv evenings with a new series, bath and scented candle and trashy magazine evenings, book in bed nights, activity nights where I Get Shit Done. Stretching night. Mumsnet and Instagram nights. I also like a Thursday cleaning night so that I can flop on Friday with a clean house.

I have a pop up sauna tent so I get in that for 20 mins whilst watching telly. Afterwards a cold shower and drink a ton of water and moisturise. Niche but it's very relaxing!

OMG this is what's been missing from my life. A pop-up sauna tent? That sounds like heaven. Where do I get one of these?

Going for a swim.
Lighting the candles, low light and reading on my kindle under the blanket with some music on low in the background. The second one happens about once a month when no one else is in to disturb the peace shouting at the PlayStation/their mates on FaceTime/each other.

I go to sound baths, Yoga or other activities.

I watch extraordinarily nerdy videos on YouTube.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 29/11/2023 08:17

Long bath with a book, into bed with a hot chocolate and read until I fall asleep 😴
Bliss!

I know the feeling OP, I'm trying to do the same but there is something nice about having an alcoholic drink to relax, and it's hard to get the same feeling from a cup of tea.

I suppose it's trying to get into a mindset of self care and knowing that you are doing it to make yourself feel good (which is quite a mature/ 'adult' idea really!). It's difficult to flip that switch but once you've done it, it feels great.

Cooking a nice meal from scratch and sharing with anyone you live with - or enjoying by yourself - is a really nice thing to do I find. Just skip the wine! ;)
