To start wearing wigs

Bloobloo · 28/11/2023 18:09

For fashion reasons. Natural hair is curly, frizzy, fine and unmanageable. Never looks sleek or polished. If straightened it sits flat and limp. Also don’t have much time to maintain/go to the hairdresser. AIBU to start wearing wigs? Bought a few cheap wigs in different colours online and actually wore one out and had loads of compliments about my “hair” which I never have. Is it just a bit weird to wear different wigs or does no one care these days?

Oh no - you wear whatever you like. It's your head!

snuggleswithmygirlies · 28/11/2023 18:12

Loads of people wear wigs, celebrities wear wigs.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 28/11/2023 18:12

Wear what you like, but aren't they really uncomfortable?

TheresaCrowd · 28/11/2023 18:14

You can't possibly be unreasonable as it's your head.

I'm surprised anyone thought a cheap wig was your natural hair though, as even some really expensive ones don't look real. It's something to do with the light/shine I think.

Bloobloo · 28/11/2023 18:15

The one I wore did become uncomfortable after a whole day but at least I looked fabulous ha ha. Just didn’t want to be perceived as “odd” I was honest with people I knew that it wasn’t my real hair lol

Oh, loads of people wear wigs, for all sorts of reasons. My friend wears them pretty much all the time because her own hair is very thin and fine and impossible to style. Nobody would guess they weren't her real hair.

Summerhillsquare · 28/11/2023 18:16

Go for it. You could cultivate a nice line in hats too.

it was mostly men that thought it was real lol. I don’t mind about being honest about wearing wigs. Just wanted it to be socially acceptable and not weird. Looks so much better than my real hair, they are realistic but up close probably obvious its a wig

I wore a headscarf with it which looked lovely 😊

I have lots.
Light coloured, human hair, lace fronts are particularly believable.
I bleached my hair and it all fell out and wear wigs so my hair can grow and heal.

I love them and means I don't need to keep dying it, I can be pink on Monday, blonde on Tuesday, pixie, long. Its great.

I do automatically tell people it's a wig when they compliment my hair, it feels a bit like lying to let them think it's real.

Go for it!

JustTalkToThem · 28/11/2023 18:27

Wigs are very common in lots of cultures, go for it.

Brilliant! I have purchased purple, red and a lovely rich chocolate one. I bet you look amazing! That’s what I like about low maintenance and being able to change up my look

Go for it! My black friends wear wigs all the time and have different styles every time I see them so I've been playing with wigs, halo extensions and hair pieces etc

ditavonteesed · 28/11/2023 18:59

www.lushwigs.com/
Little shop for you, I have loads from here and I love them

Laiste · 28/11/2023 19:06

It's pretty common these days for women to wear clip on pony tails and fringes. Hair extensions and halo rings.

I have a bun ring which is a swirl of hair which makes a messy bun really easy. You just bung it up there and clip it up. It's a mini wig really i guess!

So why not go the whole hog! 😃

BookishBabe · 29/11/2023 05:50

I would say the majority of mine are from shein.

I have a few from annabelle wigs and ice tried lush wigs.
But for the price and quality, I have found shein the absolute best.

Thanks 😊 Do you wear yours just on a night out or day to day/or to work?

Where did you get a cheap wig that got compliments? I got one from lush wigs and when it arrived it looked a bit like barbie hair.

Perfectly fine. Loads of people wear wigs for all varieties of reasons. Even if you can tell it’s a wig, doesn’t automatically make it look “bad” either. Personally I’m very fussy and I can imagine I would take me longer to sort the wig than it would my own hair!

BookishBabe · 29/11/2023 09:08

Some days I leave them off because I cba.
But I wear them for work, days out, sometimes just round the house to make myself feel better.
People who know me know they're wigs, I'll have my buzz cut one day and long blonde locks the next. It's pretty obvious. No stigma though.
