I prefer this, less bedrooms but maybe could expand or go up? Or turn conservatory into proper room

Sorry but it’s a shoe box

Where are you that has 4 beds for 270k 1:15 from Euston?

I did post just above you but I'm in the Midlands - direct line to Euston from our little station

I can use Google maps and I can clearly see that, while the property is not directly on the AI, it is sandwiched between it and the trainline.

Accessing the rest of the village would involve crossing the A1 using what looks like a couple of incredibly dangerous junctions, so that realistically, it's going to involve driving across because trying to do it as a pedestrian would be a suicide mission and even driving would be bad enough.

Edited

You're looking at the wrong house. It's on the north side of the A1 on a side road (as others have said), and the railway (which is VERY busy as it's the east coast main line) is south of the A1. There is definitely not a railway line at the bottom of the garden.

PrimoPancake · 28/11/2023 09:43

Nay. Too close to the A1 and you're looking at the road and all those bins every time you walk out the front door.

To those who say no because of the road, how close to the road would be acceptable on your eyes?

I'm approximately 300-400m from a main busy ring road (single carriageway). I don't hear it. I wouldn't want to be closer.

My parents house is on a main A road, like this house you're looking at, growing up my bedroom faced this road, it was quiet back then but since loads of newbuilds in the village there are hundreds and hundreds of new people and every time I stay at my parents in my old room, I get woken from 6am every morning with a constant stream of vehicles. Does my utter head in.

Birdsongsinging · 29/11/2023 00:07

It needs a lot of work but obviously it is that price because of it being just off the A1. Parking looks like you can park on the street so not a big issue.

I think it all depends on how it feels when you are outside and whether you feel like you are just hearing traffic zooming by or not.

Do you have children? Do schools matter? You could say being on the A1 is good for getting about!

I can see good and bad things about it so just depends what you want. For what its worth I would prefer the wee one at Coldingham!

CanadianJohn · 29/11/2023 03:33

Unless I misunderstand the floor plan, there are no windows downstairs at the back of the house. Why not?

Buddybud · 27/11/2023 23:05

Area has a high level of crime I’m afraid, crime in other area is practically non existent.

What’s your definition of high level of crime? Practically nothing happens in Chirnside!

NotFastButFurious · 29/11/2023 05:55

Oh yeah, I hadn’t noticed the lack of windows at the back, that’s really weird! Why would that be if there’s a garden (of which there’s no photos??).
it’s not just an A road, it’s the A1, the main route for most traffic and pretty much all heavy good vehicles heading to Scotland from the east of the country! It’s a deal breaker for me on pollution, noise, and also safety of having to always be turning on/off it.

WiddlinDiddlin · 29/11/2023 06:37

Yep, no windows shown ground floor rear aspect and no photos of the garden... wtf is out there? Theres apparently a patio door to decking and lawn but why not show it anywhere.

Feels weird and warehousey with lots of space but nowhere near enough storage or structure. If thats their idea of 'sympathetically converted' I'd hate to see what they thought was unsympathetically converted? It looks like they just ripped out the pub stuff and painted it magnolia!

As for the tiny cottage someone vomited the whole of Dunelm and HomeSense into... a trigger warning PLEASE, I nearly did myself an injury with my toothbrush as I idly flicked through ... optic shock, DP wanted to know why I was making muffled 'WARGHHHHHH' noises.

No. A1 at the front and railway at the back.

Business at the front, party at the back 😄

Just lots of anti social behaviour and drugs.

Definitely no due to the location. The price is amazing though.

CocoChanellee · 29/11/2023 15:32

Horrible.

The upstairs extension with the dormer windows looks terrible ( a modern extension on a traditional stone cottage) and the location right next to the A1 will mean noise, day and night.

CocoChanellee · 29/11/2023 15:35

To those who say no because of the road, how close to the road would be acceptable on your eyes?

A busy main north- south road- a mile away at least.

You'd be surprised how far sound travels.

Viviennemary · 29/11/2023 16:06

It's quite a lot of house for the money. However, it isn't very appealing and a bit souless.

CocoChanellee · 29/11/2023 16:12

Have you noticed how many of the rooms have no windows?

The bathrooms and utility rooms appear windowless.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 29/11/2023 16:39

It always amazes me how many people can’t see past decor.

NotFastButFurious · 29/11/2023 17:15

oooh i've just found it on google streetview and it's even worse than I was expecting! From the location map I thought it was on the south side of the A1 away from the "village" but it's actually on the north side and the A1 is literally across the road. It's baffling as to why it only has windows at the front when the view from the back seems to be significantly better! I'm sorry, but it might be a lot of house for the money but it's truly awful.

Notellinganyone · 29/11/2023 18:28

I think it’s been very unsympathetically modernised and has lost all character.

Aaron95 · 29/11/2023 18:35

It's not for me. Upstairs kitchen is a major no. And despite the wide angle lens, the bedrooms all look tiny with several having very low ceilings in places.

Someone has crammed as many rooms into that house as they can. And where is the storage. I can't see anywhere you could put any furniture in the bedrooms let alone an actual wardrobe. It wouldn't work for me at all.

Buddybud · 29/11/2023 20:21

Shame.

EPC is poor, needs a lot of work doing to improve it.
Don’t know the area. Looks ok inside except the bar room.

Thinkbiglittleone · 29/11/2023 21:04

I think the house itself has a lot of potential and good points but it would be a massive No due to location. From a personal opinion, that road would just be awful for us to live by.
