To think it's not a foregone conclusion that Labour will win the next election?

I am seeing things here and there predicting Keir Starmer being our next prime minister etc, as if its already been decided.

I won't be voting for them under Keir that's for sure. Their stance on Gaza is the straw that broke the camel's back. I don't care if the Tories get in again. I am so disenfranchised I dont give a shit and at least with the Tories its "better the devil you know" and not Labour pretending they give a shit about people/human rights.

Rachel Reeves isn't by any means a "lightweight" - LSE, Oxford, the Bank Of England, just for starters.

She may have the theory in spades, but she IS lightweight in Parliament where it matters. There's also no doubt that she didn't do any research as to why 3 million were excluded from the covid support as she was absolutely useless when challenging Rishi over it in the HOC. I watched the debate live on TV and was screaming at the TV over how weak and ill-informed she was - she had no substance at all, just meaningless soundbites and platitudes which Rishi easily brushed off.

Is that you Rishi?

😂😂😂

He must be the only person who still thinks they have a chance. I am looking forward to him losing on the night and can't wait for his speech.
He won't take it well😂.

Of all the dreadful corrupt leaders they've had in the last 13 years, he is the worst. Looking forward to seeing his wife's reaction also. It will be my ' were you up for Portillo ? ' moment.

Looking forward to not hearing about where he went to school (he is certainly no advert for it), his parents pharmacy.... How did he ever become PM ? He is barely middle management material.

anniegun · 27/11/2023 11:34

Tax will go up if Labour get in, I am getting 6% interest on my savings and its all the fault of illegal immigrants that I cant get a hospital appointment and the nurses have foreign accents. According to my Tory voting father!

genuinely I will be surprised if Rishi is leader of Tory party in the lead up to next general election. I think he will be removed and anew leader installed to take them through.

PieAndLattes · 27/11/2023 11:37

If the Tories get in again, in spite everything they’ve done, then the entire country has a collective case of Stockholm Syndrome. The country is in this state because of their policies and choices. The buck stops with them. They are not passive bystanders - they are the ones in power, lining their pockets while the UK limps on. Honestly, I’d vote for chaos with Ed Milliband at this point. The Tories are knackered - their MPs are tired and bored with the constant churn of leadership, backbiting, and lack of trust. Local Tory councillors are distancing themselves from national policies at every turn, as councils are hammered to within an inch of their lives and a number of them, conservative and labour, about to go bust.

Lightatwinter · 27/11/2023 11:41

My bet is Labour will get in because so much in the country is an utter mess, people will reasonably blame the current government for that and so will vote for the opposition. So Labour will get in because the country are voting against the government/state of the country rather for Labour.

Which is a pretty shocking statement of the quality of labour as a party

Nail on the head. He's not the leader that the party members voted for. He's not the leader that his fellow MPs voted for. He was "parachuted in" by people in the background who will also quickly oust him when they identify someone else with a better chance of a better result at the GE. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Cameron turns out to be the leader for the next GE! There are always people in the background pulling the strings in both the Tory and Labour party.

justaboutdonenow · 27/11/2023 11:42

I'm a lifelong Green but may have to vote tactically like I did last time.

As a carer for my disabled OH & low income part time worker with my own health issues I think another few years of these grifters will finish us both off.

CruCru · 27/11/2023 11:44

I like Rishi but I suspect that Labour will get in at the next election. Voters will punish Rishi for Boris Johnson and Liz Truss. I think their majority will be far smaller than the current polls say though.

I remember at the last GE, a load of Labour supporters gave interviews (once the results were in) to tell voters off for not voting Labour in sufficient numbers. Labour needs to win voters over, convince them that they are going to be better for the country. So many people (on here and elsewhere) have said that they are voting Labour because they dislike them a bit less than they dislike the Tories.

Or Cleverly seems like he's playing a good game.

Rishi is toxic because he excluded 3 million self employed and freelancers from covid grants. They were prime Tory voters! They're not going to forget being excluded and will, rightly, punish Rishi at the polling stations if he's still party leader!

BIossomtoes · 27/11/2023 11:50

‘they'll be lucky to get a dozen seats with an invisible leader.*

They already have 15 MPs. A lot of blue wall seats with small Tory majorities will turn LibDem in the next election.

@user1497207191 Yup. I will NEVER EVER forgive Sunak for that.

I was newly self-employed, ten days away from filing my first tax return. To be literally told by the government that despite paying taxes for 20 years, "fuck you" is something I will remember.

I’m happy for them to punish Rishi for Rishi. He’s a terrible pm.

Sunak has no regard for people like this lady and her husband, quite the opposite in fact.
It depresses me to think this country voted these charlatans in for 13 years.

What kind of people can look the other way for 13 years, starting with Osbourne 's austerity.

Food banks which were a rarity have been normal for many families.

Sunak is meeting some more of his heroes today ( CE0's from US investment firms) a follow on from his embarrassing interview with Elon Musk. He had little success before marrying a billionaire 's daughter who refused to pay her tax while he was chancellor ( you couldn't make it up) . It's embarrassing that he is the PM. This country has become a laughing stock.

No they won’t, they’ll vote Labour.

And Rachel Reeves is bloody amazing.

Iwanttheraintostop · 27/11/2023 12:07

I'm politically homeless too, however, I can't bring myself to vote for Labour when they can't protect women only spaces.

MumblesParty · 27/11/2023 12:11

Lifesd · 27/11/2023 11:05

My own prediction is that there will be a historic low turnout and that whilst labour will get in they will have to form a coalition and do some deals to get into power. It won’t be a landslide or anything like the positive victory that 1997 was. This shit show will run for a few years more yet, red or blue. Depressing.

Agree

Abhannmor · 27/11/2023 12:22

I don't know really - but it's as if Labour are almost running out of ways to lose. There doesn't have to be an election until Jan 2025 , technically , so there is still time for them to blow it.

TheNoonBell · 27/11/2023 12:23

In the current situation, yes they will win. If Mr Farage decides to return to the game then that might not be the case, there are a lot of former tory voters looking for a home right now.

KnittedCardi · 27/11/2023 12:30

We need more parties tbh. Labour are split center left and far left, Tories are split center right and far right. Both try to appease their extremes, but end up not pleasing anyone. Most people in this country are conservative with a small c, so hover around the middle.

It's also an interesting world where all our close neighbours are going populist right, where we are going back the other way.

Spendonsend · 27/11/2023 12:30

I dont think they will win. I have a long run of losing elections. Anything or anyone i have ever voted for hasn't won. Id like a change in government therfore there wont be one.

HRTQueen · 27/11/2023 12:38

No it isn’t Starmer hasn’t got voter appeal

many of the population are wanting a change from the Tories but they need to get out and vote many are unlikely to bother but Tory voter always vote

I think Labour shall win but it’s certainly should not be certainty it’s a very different feeling to 1997

BIossomtoes · 27/11/2023 12:38

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/11/2023 12:03

She is amazing but traditional Tory seats in the Home Counties won’t vote Labour.

Not everyone - Poland recently went the other way too.
