Amazon delivery

I know I'm not but posting for traffic...

Ordered a new vacuum on Black Friday. While we were out yesterday afternoon I got a notification saying that it had been delivered and handed to the resident. Clearly that hasn't happened. It's not in any of the usual spots it might have been left in. The driver does tend to leave our parcels on the doorstep, ring the doorbell and drive off before we've got there. Guessing it's been left on the doorstep and someone has walked past and taken it? Has anyone had this and were Amazon helpful? They're currently saying they won't help until 24hours have passed. I was excited for my new cordless hoover 😂.

Do you or any neighbours have a ring or nest doorbell you could check?

Cattiwampus · 26/11/2023 07:51

Did you ignore all the updates about when it was going to be delivered? Not designate a safe space? Not have it delivered to an Amazon locker?
Try that next time and good luck with a replacement. Amazon customer service is usually excellent.

IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism · 26/11/2023 07:52

Dump and run seems to be the method these days. We had a delivery on Friday. We saw the van arrive, but the driver dumped the parcel on the doorstep without ringing the doorbell and was back in the van before DH opened the front door. The delivery message said it was put in the greenhouse.

I do feel sorry for the drivers who have too many deliveries to make in too short a timescale, but this is ridiculous.

There’s now an Amazon locker a couple of miles away so I think I’ll start using that.

Hiddenvoice · 26/11/2023 07:55

Amazon won’t do anything until 24hrs have past as it’s in their policies to ‘wait and see’ if it turns up as they believe it could have been a delivery email error.

Did you get an email of a picture of it being left? We still get that from Amazon. We recently had a picture of it being posted through another door so had to walk around our neighbourhood looking for said door.
I would try your neighbours and see if anyone has had it dropped off their by mistake.

When this has happened in the past and I didn’t get my item, then I just got refunded for the item and had tk order again. They sadly didn’t offer any discount when the sale had finished.

We have it set to leave in the garden if we're not home but this says they handed it to us!

I'll have a look today but I don't think so unfortunately, funnily enough I was tempted to buy one on Friday 😂

No picture, just says handed to resident.

Ah. Did they leave it in your garden?

Neriah · 26/11/2023 08:10

I've had varying experience of Amazon doing this - tbh it's most often dump and run which has meant that on occasions they've left stuff on the doorstep in full view and it hasn't been there by the time I get back. However, there also seems to be an element of "stuff that disappears" with the drivers. I had a high end laptop "handed to the resident", and ended up in a two week battle with Amazon about the fact that the driver swore up and down he had handed it to the resident.

Yes, of course he did. I was in the house, a couple of feet from the door, when he handed it to the resident. He did that whilst totally invisible to the CCTV camera directly above the door, and without disturbing any of the several feet of snow anywhere around the property because the area was cut off in a massive snowstorm at the time he handed it to the resident - nobody could get in and we couldn't get out! They did eventually replace it but only after a battle with them.

ClemFandangooo · 26/11/2023 08:15

Gonna guess no if OP can't find it

violetcuriosity · 26/11/2023 08:24

Ahh I'm so annoyed, I know it's not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but I've saved up for this vacuum and was (sadly) looking forward to it arriving! If they won't replace it for the same price I won't be able to afford it now 😞 also, I just cba with the whole battle to get the refund. I'll contact them in the morning. Thanks.

Good luck OP! Amazon used Royal Mail to deliver my order. It has apparently been delivered to a random address the other side of town, complete with photo and a signature. I've got to try and get it back today.

Oh how annoying! Good luck too!

I've had this happen so many times, "delivered to resident" when I'm miles away. Or I fall over it leaving the house because they didn't even ring the bell, just chucked it on the doorstep. The best was when they said delivered to resident and sent a photo of the local pub...

Amazon are generally quite helpful at sending replacements though.

mondaytosunday · 26/11/2023 09:06

Often it says 'handed to resident' when it's just been left. And sometimes they say they have put it in the 'safe place' but it's just outside the door. It's a pain but we've never had anything taken. As there's no pic to prove they handed it to you hope you get a refund.

onemoretine · 26/11/2023 09:09

I ordered a shark hoover about 2 years ago and had a picture of it in my storage box, someone got home 5 min later and there was no sign of it. I contacted Amazon and they said the same thing about 24 hours, after that they sent me a new one. No clue what happened to the original but they didn't question it and I specifically asked for it not to be left safe because it was a high priced item. Now anything expensive I get sent to the local collection places.

ProfessorInkling · 26/11/2023 09:09

Occasionally I get a ‘delivered’ notification and then the driver brings it later that day or the next day.

have you actually checked with your neighbours?

AnythingForYou · 26/11/2023 09:14

When Amazon deliver to me I then get a notification saying it has been delivered and then you can rate your delivery, I always rate it as good, on time and delivered with care because they all do.

The one dump and run occasion without even a doorbell ring we reported it immediately to Amazon via their chat. We do have a Ring doobell so we could see what they had done and told Amazon that if the driver disputed our account.

We have also ordered a new cordless vac in the Black Friday sale and it specifically states it has to be handed to the resident. Did yours say it had to do this too? Possibly why they couldn't leave it in the garden so the driver would have had a failed delivery. Mine is a Shark to replace my dying Dyson, let the vac war battle commence.

ClemFandangooo · 26/11/2023 09:32

This has happened a few times, just go on live chat in the app after 24-48 hours and you don't even have to speak to someone, there's a automatic option for "my parcel says delivered and it wasn't" and you click for a replacement or a refund

violetcuriosity · 26/11/2023 09:34

I think it's been stolen from the doorstep. One of my neighbours has footage of the driver delivering to them 1 minute before mine was 'delivered' and the driver has just left the parcel on the doorstep so I'm guessing this is what he's done and someone has walked past and picked it up.

My mum just reminded me of something outrageous that happened to them with Amazon a few years ago 😂

They were sitting at home one Saturday afternoon and heard what they thought was a firework going off in next doors garden.

About an hour later Mum went to the door for something and found an Amazon parcel on the doorstep. As she closed the front door she heard a crumbling sound and noticed a huge crack going from the bottom of the wall next to the door to the ceiling (inside) and then noticed that the glass pane was actually shattered too. Went outside and had a look, obviously very confused, and found the external wall was also cracked but this crack went from the ground to just underneath the upstairs window.

They couldn't work out what had happened and asked opposite for their ring doorbell footage to just try and work out what had happened. Anyway....

The footage shows the Amazon driver driving into the driveway, CRASHING into the house, reversing slightly and getting out looking at the damage on the van and house and this isn't a joke, he actually shrugs 😂 then goes into the back of the van, gets the parcel out, throws it on the doorstep reverses out and drives off with visible damage to the van on the footage.

Mum and Dad needed structural work done to repair the house and the whole area around the front door needed replacing, it cost thousands which Amazon did pay eventually.

So, my delivery driver doesn't seem too bad in the spectrum of shitty Amazon drivers 😂

Aww sounds very familiar, I ordered an electrical product, that was supposedly signed for, I knew it wasn’t delivered, as home all day, checked the Ring, confirmed no delivery etc. contacted seller, sent the most ridiculous photo that could have been anywhere, not my front door etc. complaint to Amazon, was refunded. Get onto Amazon.

I’ve had huge problems with Amazon over the past few months. I have my safe place set to my patio as it has a roof over it.
I got a message something had been delivered to my safe place. I was actually in the house that day and no one rang the doorbell. Couldn’t find it. 4 days later I found it under my car by the garage which is a different side of the street from my front door. Last week it said handed to resident and I wasn’t in and everything was sitting outside the front door in the rain when I got home. Luckily the books inside were wrapped in plastic.
I have complained so many times, their customer service staff are useless and don’t read the chat properly.

FawnFrenchieMum · 26/11/2023 10:00

There has been several reports in my area of someone following the Amazon van around as as fast as they are leaving them on doorsteps they are stealing them.

I’ve always found Amazon very good at replacing things though. Especially if they don’t have a photo of where it was left.

Does your neighbour have a photo of their delivery on their account? If they do, then seems odd yours doesn’t and more likely to be the driver who hasn’t left it.
