Shrinkflation - Bahlsen Choco Leibniz

I haven't bought these for a while, as they are now so expensive. However, when I went to Sainsburys this week, I noticed they were reduced from £1.85 to £1 with a Nectarcard.

I therefore stocked up, and greedily bought SIX packs. I opened a pack tonight, and instead of NINE biscuits, there were only EIGHT!!! No mention on the pack, although when I look at the SMALL PRINT, and Googled, I notice the weight is less than it was.

However, although they forgot to label this reduction in biscuit numbers on the packet, they have apparently improved the packaging, as it says "Now resealable, with a new paper tray" 🤔

I guess it served me right for being so greedy. Would it be unreasonable to take the other five packs back to complain about the lack of labelling?!? 😂

The absolute bastards.

I still haven’t got over how small wagon wheels are these days. And no, it’s not that my hands are bigger.

Princessvelour · 24/11/2023 19:34

What?! They use to do an amazing one with caramel but seems to have been discontinued

LozengeShaped · 24/11/2023 19:37

Yes, I normally shop at Tesco, where they are £1.85 full price, but £1.25 with a Clubcard, and there are the full NINE biscuits in the old-but-perfectly-serviceable packaging.

Note to self... I must get a life...

Just opened my first box in months after a very long break from my favourite biscuits …. I was horrified to find the lack of biscuits ……. I was fuuuuuming 🤣🤣🤣🤣….. the cheeky sods ….. well that just meant I had to open the 2nd box !!!! Oh dear 🤪🤪🤪😄😄😄

PatronLover · 29/11/2023 19:02

Just grabbed a packet of these and discovered the same thing - shrinkflation from 9 to 8 biscuits with no warning. How do I equally divide a pack for the three DCs now FFS.

Also boycotting these now on principal

eggandonion · 29/11/2023 19:05

Were they plain or milk? How are they arranged?
Im horrified.

AnneKipankitoo · 29/11/2023 19:09

You can get both @eggandonion
Absolute 🤬but of course inflation is going down .

All aboard 🐷✈️

minipie · 29/11/2023 19:10

Since DH and I manage to polish off a box in a sitting this is possibly a good thing.

Heartbreaktuna · 29/11/2023 22:10

I was so cross when I opened the packet and saw 8 I vowed to stop buying them. The list of things I won't buy now due to shrinkflation is getting pretty long 😞

eggandonion · 29/11/2023 22:29

@AnneKipankitoo i love the plain ones most of all but they are rarely available near us.
I wonder if the not very good fakes in lidl will shrinkflate too.

IdaPrentice · 29/11/2023 22:32

Never mind the shrinkflation, I swear the chocolate they use has gone down in quality - I used to love them but the last pack I bought was meh.

Unjudgemental · 30/11/2023 06:30

I also bought a few packs for £1 and hadn't taken much notice of the quantity until I saw your post. However, my DS who usually loves them said they tasted weird (he is sensitive to food) so wonder if they've changed the ingredients as well. He wont eat them now.

Blueotterwhale · 30/11/2023 14:31

They taste so weird!!! I'm glad there is a thread about this. Its the cardboard tray. It like soaks into the biscuit and changes the flavour. I am gutted as they are my favourite biscuit!

LozengeShaped · 30/11/2023 14:53

So true about the taste as well!!! We opened the choc bic ones covered in white chocolate, and they weren't very nice at all! I assumed that was because I normally buy the dark choc ones.

Sorry to hear the others are as bad. 😠

I think they taste different too!! 😫 Always the way...

Zombiemum1946 · 28/12/2023 13:22

Doing the maths, the 8 pack is 12.5p per biscuit, the tesco pack is 13.8 per biscuit. Enjoy your bargain.

Nomedalagana · 09/01/2024 14:54

They do taste like cardboard 🤮Not buying any again. Gutted! They were my family's favourites for years!😞

Pegglore · 28/01/2024 07:17

Yh, these been totally ruined. I was so looking forward to these new white and chocolate orange ones I got, but there's something not right, no. These will go down in popularity now. I wonder if this will up the value of my rare Choco Leibniz mistake biscuit I got, and saved, where the biscuit snapped in half just before the chocolate was added to it, and has set perfectly, with a 2 mm gap between the 2 broken pieces. Never seen that before. Will be worth a fortune..

PBandJ111 · 28/01/2024 07:54

They have changed the ingredients as they taste rubbish. Paying the same for less product and much reduced quality …. Well, I’m no longer a customer for these. Won’t be buying them again. Well done bahlsen - your product taste team need sacking,

Same here. That's not a wheel, it's barely a hubcap

hotginbottle · 28/01/2024 08:08

They are shit now

I can get over 8 vs 9 but the recipe change is something I can't get past. Yuk.

heavenscentrose · 29/05/2024 22:22

Bahlsen still haven't sorted out the packaging problem with milk Choco Leibniz, which still taste of cardboard. They are losing their reputation for producing premium quality biscuits. Don't they realise that it is hard to regain a good reputation once it has been lost? I definitely won't be purchasing milk Choco Leibniz biscuits until the packaging problem has been resolved.

I used to be a (far too regular) purchaser... but I've not bought any since I started this thread!

just came across this thread.. I bought a pack the other day and my god the taste!! The biscuit part tasted like cardboard... I almost had to force myself to finish the biscuit in disbelief! they used to be so good!

ABirdsEyeView · 30/05/2024 09:46

There are loads of things I've swapped to the Aldi equivalent because prices are up and sizes are down. Often the Aldi equivalent is better tasting too
