People who blow their nose...

... while you're sat at a restaurant, home dining table, etc eating a meal are fucking disgusting.
There's no need for it!! Just go to the bathroom, pub toilets to do it.

Some c*nt has done this to me right now. There's fuck all wrong with him that stops him from moving away from his table to do it-I've known him for years and there's no reason he couldn't retire to the toilet to do it.
It's just fucking rude and turns my stomach.

Even my aunt-who is usually reasonable- does this. I can't go out for family meals anymore if she's present as it's a habitual thing.

I'm not talking about capturing an errant sneeze in a tissue BTW.

Yeah I'm probably being unreasonable but capable adults should just fuck off and blow their noses out of sight and sounds of those that are eating.

Probably go around with a bell while someone walks ahead of you shouting unclean.

Campaign for more awareness, so there are fewer allergy triggers such as perfumes in restaurants!

ThomasinaLivesHere · 23/11/2023 20:17

I guess it’s cultural. You reminded me of living in Japan where it’s rude there and they never blew their nose in public but instead sucked it back in their nose and to me that sound was far worse than just blowing your nose. As they’d either have to repeatedly do it or it sounded like it went down their throat.

If it's a hot meal my nose will start running about 3/4 of the way through, and I need to blow it. Never been told off about it, thought it was perfectly normal!

cryinglaughing · 23/11/2023 20:32

I'm with you OP, it turns my stomach, the sound of snot rattling out of a nose, makes me heave.

HelloOhHell · 23/11/2023 20:43

perfectly “normal” thing to do, yes, but it’s still pretty disgusting in relation to what the OP is saying, in proximity to food/dining etc.

travelnorth · 23/11/2023 21:38

Disgusting 💯 🐷

XenoBitch · 23/11/2023 22:12

I was out with someone recently who had a cold (and he kindly passed it on to me). He was back and forth to the bathroom to blow his nose constantly. That bothered me more then any nose blowing going on at the table.

Thursa · 23/11/2023 22:23

I’m with you, OP! I do not want to hear the contents of someone’s nose hurtling into a hankie at the dining table!!

Bigcat25 · 23/11/2023 23:01

I agree op. I also like to sanitize or wash my hands after but if it's a quick dab I might stay where I am, especially if busy with my son, but I'd be embarrassed to blow in public. I also used to work with a bunch of germaphopes and I know that would gross them out, so have retained that outlook.

Merryoldgoat · 23/11/2023 23:27

How do all these squeamish people get through life?

I literally would not even bat an eyelid at someone blowing their nose.

Sweet Jesus.

Pooooochi · 23/11/2023 23:32

Blowing your nose in public is perfectly socially acceptable.

This doesn't bother me in the slightest. I wouldn't even notice someone doing it.

Is it possible you have misophonia?

Pooooochi · 23/11/2023 23:34

How do all these squeamish people get through life?

God knows. And how do they survive havings kids who fart/shit/burp/snot everywhere with zero regard for your senses.

DappledThings · 23/11/2023 14:32

I can't get on board with that. Sniffing goes on for ages. Someone can sniff every few seconds for hours of a train journey and make me utterly murderous.

The sniffer can blow their nose effectively once and probably be fine for an hour after that.

There's no contest as to which one I'd rather hear.

Not if it’s hay fever which I get or when my nose rubs just because it’s cold. It doesn’t stop with a nose blow at all. What turns my stomach is someone blowing there nose then inspecting the contents…blergh

I’d rather clean shitty arses all day than put up with snotty noses.

Maddy70 · 24/11/2023 00:26

I agree. No-one wants to hear that while they're eating....go to the bathroom for a good blow

I wonder how they deal with farts? Do they clench their anal sphincter and suck them back in? The mind boggles. I am off to google...

It's a million times better than someone not blowing their nose and just sniffing.

I've offered tissues to strangers on trains before in a pointed attempt to get them to blow their nose. Never been bothered by someone blowing it.

As someone who can't blow their nose and had teachers try this on me, I'd find this pretty rude as an adult.
But I just wear a mask now if I have the sniffles

lemmein · 24/11/2023 03:22

I've never been able to blow my nose, no idea why, I just can't do it. I used to be really jealous of those that could when I was a kid, especially the noisy blowers!

A mask wouldn't stop the infuriating noise of sniffing. If you can't blow it you could still use the offered tissue to dab away the drips rather than sniffing. Still a win-win.

This has long confused me about MN. Once most of my friends became parents, I was mildly horrified at how easily poo became a topic of conversation. Becoming a parent seemed to destroy any squeamishness any of them ever had.

And yet MN contains some of the most squeamish people about normal bodily functions I have ever encountered!

No one thinks hearing someone blow their nose is pleasant, but it's a normal part of life and it's bizarre to fixate on it.
