People who blow their nose...

... while you're sat at a restaurant, home dining table, etc eating a meal are fucking disgusting.
There's no need for it!! Just go to the bathroom, pub toilets to do it.

Some c*nt has done this to me right now. There's fuck all wrong with him that stops him from moving away from his table to do it-I've known him for years and there's no reason he couldn't retire to the toilet to do it.
It's just fucking rude and turns my stomach.

Even my aunt-who is usually reasonable- does this. I can't go out for family meals anymore if she's present as it's a habitual thing.

I'm not talking about capturing an errant sneeze in a tissue BTW.

Yeah I'm probably being unreasonable but capable adults should just fuck off and blow their noses out of sight and sounds of those that are eating.

TBH I find people who eat on the train (looking at you, man opposite me with the bloody stinky tuna sandwich!) far more repulsive than those who blow their nose at the table.

Blowing your nose is natural (unless we’re talking full foghorn). Eating stinky food on public transport however…send them straight to jail.

DeeKitch · 23/11/2023 18:06

It really makes me heave.

Ficklebricks · 23/11/2023 18:08

What a strange take. It's perfectly acceptable, nothing wrong with it at all.

SeanMean · 23/11/2023 18:09

YABVU!!

It’s a normal bodily function and is acceptable in the UK.

fingerguns · 23/11/2023 18:10

I'd rather someone blow their nose than incessantly sniff.

gingercat02 · 23/11/2023 18:12

People on here are barmy! Blowing your nose is perfectly acceptable. Sniffing not so much

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 23/11/2023 18:13

It does make me wonder how the anti-blow folk manage to take a shit without passing out in disgust.

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 23/11/2023 18:23

Wow, what a violently aggressive post over something so utterly nonsensical!

I often have to blow my nose while eating with others. Spicy food makes my nose run, and our caterers at work are particularly keen on chilli. So if I didn’t blow my nose during lunch, my colleagues would have to watch nose drip into my meal, which I imagine would be more effective at putting them off their food.

LifeofBrienne · 23/11/2023 18:40

This would be the weirdest bodily thing to be offended by - but I think it’s just beaten by the opinion I saw recently that toes are offensive and no one should wear sandals in public.

StillWantingADog · 23/11/2023 18:42

you wouldn’t like me then. I have a lot of allergies and blow my nose all the time. If I couldn’t blow my nose in public I’d never leave the house!

TurquoiseHexagonSun · 23/11/2023 18:47

What are those of us with chronic allergies supposed to do, though? Run to the bathroom every 5 minutes?

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 23/11/2023 18:52

Bouncyball23 · 23/11/2023 14:26

Just as I thought posts on here couldn't get any worse!! Moaning over nose blowing whatever next?

I sometimes think I've stepped into a parallel universe when I get onto MN. Things I have never heard a person moan about in over 60 years become such a drama here. There seem to be a lot of batshit posts atm.

itsmyp4rty · 23/11/2023 18:53

Yes! Why not just let it run down your face instead.

Moonshine5 · 23/11/2023 18:58

I suffer from a mild version of misophonia and even I think you're being unreasonable. I think it's context - I appreciate some people could be more discrete but as for finding a public toilet - that's so impractical!

Wannabegreenfingers · 23/11/2023 19:08

I couldn't disagree with you more.

Goldenbear · 23/11/2023 19:09

It's impolite at a dinner table, you should excuse yourself and discreetly deal with it.

TeenLifeMum · 23/11/2023 19:10

We have to go to the toilet to blow our nose? Wtf? People really get offended far too easily. As long as they’re using a tissue it’s totally normal behaviour. Stop making life harder imposing your bonkers rules on everyone.

Goldenbear · 23/11/2023 19:11

If you have to you should wipe your nose but not blow your nose at a dinner table.

Goldenbear · 23/11/2023 19:13

It's good manners not bonkers rules.

Probably go around with a bell while someone walks ahead of you shouting unclean.

pacora · 23/11/2023 16:23

I have seen worse than this. I have on several occasions seen someone blow their noses in the paper napkin then leave it on the restaurant table. How gross is that? Poor waiter/waitress who has to deal with that.

Er paper napkins are used to dab your mouth. Not much difference, surely

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 23/11/2023 19:40

Now anticipating the 'AIBU to make DH have a shower before getting into bed if he has sneezed' thread.

Oh yes, I bet we will get one a bit like that. And then there would be outrage if he used the en-suite during the night 😂

TrishIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/11/2023 14:28

Also you can’t ‘hear the snot’. The trumpet sound it the sounds of air being blown through the nose

Oh no sometimes you can hear the snot bubbling along the nasal passage and slap into the tissue

Takenwithtea · 23/11/2023 20:10

TrishIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/11/2023 14:27

Well that’s a ‘you’ problem ain’t it. People need to chew their food, some might make noise. I hate hearing people swallow drinks, it sets my teeth on edge, but I’m aware it’s a ‘me’ problem and I get over it because I don’t want to sit in a restaurant being a miserable bugger because other people function as normal humans

Umm, no. Presumably everyone is taught as a child not to chew or swallow noisily, to chew with their mouth closed, not to blow their nose or pass wind in front of others? It's very basic consideration for others!
