People who blow their nose...

... while you're sat at a restaurant, home dining table, etc eating a meal are fucking disgusting.
There's no need for it!! Just go to the bathroom, pub toilets to do it.

Some c*nt has done this to me right now. There's fuck all wrong with him that stops him from moving away from his table to do it-I've known him for years and there's no reason he couldn't retire to the toilet to do it.
It's just fucking rude and turns my stomach.

Even my aunt-who is usually reasonable- does this. I can't go out for family meals anymore if she's present as it's a habitual thing.

I'm not talking about capturing an errant sneeze in a tissue BTW.

Yeah I'm probably being unreasonable but capable adults should just fuck off and blow their noses out of sight and sounds of those that are eating.

Also you can’t ‘hear the snot’. The trumpet sound it the sounds of air being blown through the nose

I think there's a difference between a hay-fever snuffly blow of the nose and one in which someone is clearing their nose and you can hear the snot being deposited into the tissue

TrashedSofa · 23/11/2023 14:30

Me get up and inconvenience myself because you don't like the sound of nose blowing? That'll be a no.

wholecupcake · 23/11/2023 14:31

If it involves something exiting your body it is best done in private

Dotjones · 23/11/2023 14:31

Sniffing is disgusting. I don't have an issue with people blowing their nose but sniffing is grim, especially when people do it every 15 seconds.

PippyLongTits · 23/11/2023 14:31

I hate the sound of other people's snot rattling around their heads. If people are that snotty, they are probably still contagious and shouldn't be out for dinner.

Conversely, it is soooooo satisfying to blow my own nose! I love a good old blow that gets a sizeable clump of snot out of my own snotty nose, but yes, I would excuse myself first and do it in the bathroom, not where people are eating.

UnctuousUnicorns · 23/11/2023 14:28

No, nose blowing is fucking disgusting, not sniffing, which I don't judge as I presume the person doing it has a cold. At least sniffing keeps it internal, at least until the person uses the loo. Nose blowing results in a hanky full of snot that then needs disposing of, in a bin, in landfill. Keep your snot rags, thank you.

I can't get on board with that. Sniffing goes on for ages. Someone can sniff every few seconds for hours of a train journey and make me utterly murderous.

The sniffer can blow their nose effectively once and probably be fine for an hour after that.

There's no contest as to which one I'd rather hear.

Carmargo · 23/11/2023 14:33

I did stress it's when others are eating not just out and about.

Do you go to the loo to cough?

SummaLuvin · 23/11/2023 14:33

Sniffing is an irritant that can be solved by blowing your nose. I never understand why people sit sniffing snot back up, knowing it will come back down, when there’s a very simple solution in finding a tissue.

something I found out when I had HORRENDOUS hayfever last year is that if it's allergies causing nasal irritation then blowing your nose can make it worse as you move all those around and increase irritation. If it's just a normal cold though, absolutely it can be solved by blowing your nose.

Do you go to the loo to cough?

Or exhale?

Oh really! I have thankfully never had experience of hay fever.

Or speak

OlderandwiserMaybe · 23/11/2023 14:36

I think it depends.
If it just a little runny nose and a quick blow on a tissue - absolutely nothing wrong with doing that in public.
If you've got a full on snotty cold - having a big noisy blow probably should be done in private - but then if you're full of cold you probably wouldn't be out for a meal.

I get hayfever and other allergies. If I had to go into a bathroom every time i needed to blow my nose or sniff you'd probably find the constant back and forth to the table annoying too.

Bluelightbaby · 23/11/2023 14:48

Yes I agree, can’t stomach it at all. Urgh gross 🤢

TenderDandelions · 23/11/2023 15:10

I always get a runny nose when I eat, so I have to blow my nose! If I had to go to the bathroom every time I'd never get a full meal eaten without it being stone cold by the end!

Now, massively snotty flu/cold based nose blowing events I would definitely agree with. I'd never do that at the table as I agree that's nasty.

FastFood · 23/11/2023 15:16

Oh FFS what now

user1483387154 · 23/11/2023 15:25

LMFAO they are just blowing their nose, not having a shit at the table next to you

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 23/11/2023 15:30

I couldn’t get worked up about it. People have to sneeze and blow their noses sometimes. I get much more offended by loud, obnoxious, stentorian people in restaurants.

WhatWindyWeather · 23/11/2023 15:31

Due to cancer near the nose, I have to frequently blow my nose. I would be up and down to the toilets like a yoyo. Perhaps I should avoid eating out entirely.

ManateeFair · 23/11/2023 15:34

wholecupcake · 23/11/2023 14:24

I don't expect to hear someone chew either

Do you only eat in restaurants that serve soups and purees?

saltinesandcoffeecups · 23/11/2023 15:34

I’m with you OP… not at the table while others are eating. You excuse yourself and go somewhere else to do it.

ManateeFair · 23/11/2023 15:35

I mean, it's not like they're hoiking up phlegm, is it? It's just blowing a nose.

I get that, especially with (temperature) hot food
Giant snotty nose blow yes in private
Don't get me started on people hawking up snot and spitting Envy

Wolvesart · 23/11/2023 15:40

Eh, that’s ridiculous. Nose blowing is a normal activity/necessity. In the hayfever season I would look like I had a uti if I went to the loo everyone I wanted to blow my nose. Goodness knows what you think about sniffing or sneezing

Notmetoo · 23/11/2023 15:42

I have rhinitis which means I am not ill or infectious but I often have a runny nose. Does that mean I can never go out in public? Or if I do I have to stay in the toilet?
Sorry but you are being very unreasonable.
