The chocolate is gross but the family totally sold out on all their principles. Disgusting.

Wouldn't buy that shite if you paid me.

OP posts:

A glass and a half of palm oil these days... Yes I agree it's crap now since they started using that. Aldi and Lidl choc is still palm oil free if you want cheap decent choc.

Hamsterinaball · 17/11/2023 00:28

I agree BUT does anybody else find that there are some chocolate bars that taste worse than others? Cadburys Caramel, Twirl and Boost used to be the bomb but now they are absolutely garbage! The plain Dairy Milk is ok but the thinner bars (Little Bars) and Freddos are actually fine?

Oh and bring back the SPIRA (properly).

Galaxy / Maltesers have also joined the shitwagon.

That was always very cunning of them right from the start in pushing the very non-specific 'glass and a half', rather than stating an actual verifiable standardised volume.

How big is the glass? For all we know, it could be the size of what a dormouse stores its contact lenses in overnight Grin

Cadbury’s Roses here haven’t been worth buying since they stopped doing the strawberry ones.

Glitterybee · 17/11/2023 00:32

Agree UK Cadbury’s is not the same!

But in Ireland we have little square shaped bars that haven’t changed, it’s so creamy and delicious - just like it used to be! I love it

They still do them - and they are (imho) the nicest of the varieties; but still not a patch on how they used to taste.

I'm not a fan of Cadburys chocolate. It is too sweet and not chocolatey enough.

Agree with this ^ 100%. I would rather have Tesco or Sainsbury’s basic chocolate.
I know nothing about family though.

80sMum · 17/11/2023 00:48

I do agree that Cadbury chocolate is not very nice. It's far too sweet, has a strange artificial sort of taste to it and is very sickly and cloying.

I prefer dark chocolate. Montezuma's absolute black 100% cocoa is more to my taste these days.

user1492757084 · 17/11/2023 00:58

Cadbury's used to be better. It is still way better than all American chocolate like Hershey.

I like Lindt and Belgiun but sometimes it is too rich and lovely so Cadbury's is fine though it is too sweet and melts too quickly.

Yeah right

Catsmere · 17/11/2023 01:33

@FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper maybe it’s Cadbury’s in Australia that aren’t doing them? I know the last couple of times I bought a box they weren’t there.

Missingthegore · 17/11/2023 01:37

Irish Cadbury is better than UK Cadbury
Both are better than Australian Cadbury

Thedogscollar · 17/11/2023 01:46

@Freddo75 They named a bar of chocolate after you OP. Cadbury Freddo bar delish 😋

Tatumm · 17/11/2023 01:51

It’s just about good enough quality to cover a cake for a school summer fair. The change in this chocolate has killed my urge to eat it and fur my arteries. So in one sense I’m pleased 🤣

And yet compared the vomit flavoured Hersheys, it’s vaguely palatable.

Branflakesbreakfast · 17/11/2023 01:54

Just confused by OP... Why the rant about the family if you didn't know anything about them?

Onacuctustree · 17/11/2023 02:05

I agree.
I love chocolate.
The only mass produced thing I can eat now is a Snickers ( had to stop myself from saying Marathon).
Cadburys have ruined it.
The Caramel, used to be a thing of beauty.
Now it tastes horrible.
The texture and melt point is totally wrong .

WanderlyWagonInWales · 17/11/2023 02:06

Irish Cadburys tastes totally different to the muck you get here. I went to the Cadburys Shop in Cheshire Oaks not long after I moved over here (2004) and bought a HAPE of chocolate. I ended up giving it all away because it was MINGING - and that was before the recipe changes occurred. I don’t touch the stuff geee anymore and just smuggle a rake of it back over any time I’m home visiting family (along with Brennans Bread, proper Tayto and Barry’s Master Blend teabags) 😉

Kitkat1523 · 16/11/2023 22:21

I like cadburys

You must be very young not to recall that Cadburys used to be real dairy... milk and cream that is.......now replaced by shite palm oil.

UGH don't give it houseroom! Cadburys now owned by shysters Mondelez.

saythatagaintome · 17/11/2023 02:16

Agreed. So is TOBLERONE. Utter shite

Ah, it's probably different, then.

It sounds like UK and Irish Cadbury's differ so much just between neighbouring small countries, so no great surprise if there are other differences in a huge country on the other side of the world!

starlightcan · 17/11/2023 03:11

Once you’ve got into nicer chocolate you realise newsagent chocolate bars* all leave you with that throat burn and don’t have a really nice flavour, just lots of sugar.

  • With the exception of the Lindt bars.

Probably! Someone else on the thread said they're all terrible but out of UK, Ireland and Australia, ours is the worst.

To think I went on a tour of their factory in Tasmania back in 2007 ...

SecretVictoria · 17/11/2023 05:14

Our local Asda used to have a small selection of Irish foods. The Mint Crisp was amazing but I haven’t seen it in there for ages. Used to love Star Bar but find it’s very disappointing these days 🙁.

Guavafish1 · 17/11/2023 05:16

it's horrible! I dont like UK chocolate anymore, it was once something so delicious.
