To be mildly annoyed people abuse BB parking spaces?

Soubriquet · 16/11/2023 15:25

I went out today for the first time in a while. I have a BB and was lucky to be able to get a space since I kept seeing parents parking there and getting out prams. No badges in the windows

I was mildly annoyed tbh but I was also a saddened that people feel they can use a blue badge bay without one!

Thought that was a parking ticket offence?

Soubriquet · 16/11/2023 15:48

Probably is but there is no attendants to ticket them

I've never seen this. Where I live BB spaces are respected.

Are you sure they were BB and not parent and child spaces? They are often next to one another and both have additional space around the cars.

Soubriquet · 16/11/2023 16:03

Nope. Definitely blue badge. Child spaces are the other side of the lot

I’ve never seen this before, but I have seen people use P&C spaces and display a blue badge despite there being disabled spaces free.
Were lots of people doing it? Maybe word got round that no one polices the spaces or something?

OldTinHat · 16/11/2023 16:13

If the bay is edged in white paint, it's a 'courtesy' space and anyone can park in it. If it's edged in yellow, then you have to display your badge and can be ticketed if you don't.

I have a disabled bay outside my house allocated with the council to me, my car, my bb. It's edged in white. Whenever I go out, I'll come home to find someone without a bb parked in it.

HamsterBanana · 16/11/2023 16:14

I'd of took photos of each car & reported them. Grin

I have a blue badge and it really annoys me when I see people parking in them without a badge!

BoohooWoohoo · 16/11/2023 16:14

I would be more than mildly annoyed and I am not a user of the soaces.

LlynTegid · 16/11/2023 16:16

You take a photo and report it to whoever enforces parking regulations.

It is not an offence that could lead to a driving ban but should be.

Some P&C spaces are closer to the door than BB spaces

Lilclover · 16/11/2023 16:18

This is a real bug bearer of mine!! Happens a lot with Parent and baby parking spaces too. I have a 6 month old and I have had at least 10 arguments at our local Tesco alone with people who have no baby and park in those spaces. Same as BB spaces they have additional space relative to a standard space specifically for wheelchairs etc etc.

with the baby parking I’ve gotten into the habit of thanking people for being so lazy that they put my child at risk (from having to be put in their pram at the back of the car in a standard spot rather than being able to use the designated baby aisles at the side). People are usually either narky or embarrassed.

Samcro · 16/11/2023 16:22

i would be angry. BB are so important and not in anyway comparable with P&C bays.

EvilElsa · 16/11/2023 16:22

I don't disbelieve you but fortunately for me it doesn't seem to be a problem at all where I live. Always empty BB spaces even in packed parking areas. They do seem to be respected here. All I can advise is pointing it out to traffic wardens if you see any.

BB holders have every right to use P&C spaces.

Obviously?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 16/11/2023 16:26

YANBU, but I know some people whose family members possess blue badges and abuse them, ie when their disabled family members aren't there and have no plans to be there.

That always really surprises me because I assume that the family members of those who are eligible for a blue badge must surely know how important those spaces are to people who need them. I guess some people are just very selfish!

Chickpea17 · 16/11/2023 16:26

Never seen that before but I do know blue badge holders can park in children's parking bays.

The two are not comparable, sorry.

@MrsBennetsPoorNerves just giving a point of view by sharing a similar experience. If you’ve nothing nice to say, just say nothing.

That poster wasn't being nasty, juts pointing out your P&C space scenario is not comparable. Which is true. What are you trying to shut them down with your 'say nothing' nonsense. Discussing the rights of disabled people should not be stopped by someone who decided being a parent is similar.

But being disabled and having children are not similar experiences, are they?

I'm sorry if you don't like what I said but I wasn't rude, and I happen to consider it important to challenge the silly notion that Blue Badge spaces are in any way comparable to P&C spaces.

You're entitled to disagree but you don't get to dictate what others post.

glossypeach · 16/11/2023 16:35

it drives me insane. I go to my local Tesco weekly to pick up my child from their dad and I sit and people watch each time. The amount of people that park in blue badge spaces without a badge is insane. It’s often the big, expensive cars that they don’t want other cars parking close to them so they either park in a disabled space or a parent and child space. And this is without a care in the world - which makes it more frustrating. For context I’m a blue badge holder as I’m disabled. I often cannot leave my home because of my disability and if I can’t get a space close to where I need to be if I’m alone - then I cannot go. So the fact that it is so hard to get a disabled space lately because people abuse them is scummy.

mondaytosunday · 16/11/2023 16:39

Some people just feel entitled! My sister has a disabled child and is only allowed to use her badge if she has her daughter with her. In ten years she's only cheated once, and that was to nip in for a takeaway (she still feels guilty about it).

gotomomo · 16/11/2023 16:51

Whilst I haven't parked in a blue badge with dsd's I've been tempted, her carers keep mislaying it, leaving it in their car and not being on shift ... I can't get her in unless I can open the door fully, and I can't leave her unattended for even 20 seconds to pull the car forwards. She can walk though so I park away from entrances if I am alone

Babyghirl · 16/11/2023 16:52

@Soubriquet
Same as people using p&c spaces with no child, I would park in a bb space if no p&c spaces cause If I don't I have to get my daughter out of the car leave her in her pram while I put car in to the space and do the same get the car out before I can put her in as the spaces are to tight. Do I feel bad about it ni cause my daughters safety is important to me.
