Obsessive neighbour losing the plot over leaves

Our neighbours are a relatively elderly couple and since they moved in have had a bee in their bonnet over leaves that blow onto their driveway. The gate to our driveway is opposite to their open driveway, separated by a narrow road. Our next door neighbour has a massive old tree in their garden that produces a lot of leaves, most of which fall into our driveway. We don’t really bother collecting the leaves, as it is an endless task at this time of the year, but the elderly couple is constantly on at us because the leaves blow across the road into their driveway and the odd one gets in their front door. Now we have told them we don’t produce the leaves, and they don’t bother us, so if they are bothered by the leaves either pick them up or take it up with our neighbour who owns the tree. But now they have even started collecting them in black bags and, under the cover of darkness, leaving them in front of our driveway gate, or throwing them over our fence. I’m tempted next time they do this to open the bag and dump it over their driveway again. AIBU by not picking up the leaves in our garden?

Don't let them tell you how to live, that's ridiculous. If you give into this then they will think of something else that you must do to keep them happy!

If they've picked up the leaves they have no right to dump them on you, it's not even your tree!

TheCadoganArms · 13/11/2023 20:46

Nuke their house from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

Vitriolinsanity · 13/11/2023 20:47

Take the bags back

Every. Single. Time

Vitriolinsanity · 13/11/2023 20:48

Although @TheCadoganArms approach is better if you have the resources and a bunker.

ladeluge · 13/11/2023 20:49

Bags back with a big note pinned saying "NOT MY LEAVES THANK YOU".

FGS leaves are just a fact of life at this time of year. Batshit crazy stuff. Nip it now or they will drive you mad.

Sparkies2012 · 13/11/2023 20:54

It’s like this every year. I came home tonight in the horrible rain and there was a fresh black bag in the driveway meaning I had to get out to move it before I could drive in. I dumped it across onto their driveway and like a stealthy ninja, the lady jumped out of the front door to ask what I was doing, I just said you must have mistakenly left your bag in our driveway, then jumped in the car and left her to it.

Would appreciate a diagram to understand the path the leaves are taking, thank you.

Otherwise, next time they witter on, just tell them you'll have a word with the leaves and ask them nicely if they wouldn't mind staying off their drive and just wafting down the road instead.

Jewelspun · 13/11/2023 20:57

As the tree is not on your property it's utterly ridiculous for them to give you grief.

In the night, post the leaves through their letterbox.

I'd also be leaving marvels and banana skins on their drive along with a few rakes dotted about.

WeekWeekWeek · 13/11/2023 20:57

“My security camera caught you dumping your rubbish on my driveway. Please don’t fly-tip again”.

Will scare the shit out of them.

Jewelspun · 13/11/2023 20:57

Marbles

Somethingsnappy · 13/11/2023 20:58

I'd be tempted to post the leaves one by one through their letterbox.

Oh yes! This! Genius.

Mojodojocasahaus · 13/11/2023 20:58

Utterly batshit

AnxiousPangolin · 13/11/2023 20:59

They are mental. Throw the bags back on their driveway every time.

Couperi · 13/11/2023 21:00

Buy a leaf blower. Blow them straight back to them.

Dinglewoop · 13/11/2023 21:02

Do you have a ring doorbell? If you can catch them on camera dumping the bags on your land, I would report them for fly tipping and maybe harassment.

We have a very similar problem. Big tree (not ours) endlessly dropping leaves. I just hope the wind blows the other way and pick them up maybe once a fortnight. We've had a neighbour tell us that our drive looks a mess because of leaves and let's the whole village down. People can be so OTT

ProvisionsOnTheDock · 13/11/2023 21:03

Make some leafy bunting and drape it around their garden and over their front door.

CaroleSinger · 13/11/2023 21:03

Absolutely you have to keep returning the. It wont go on forever. They'll soon stop. Once it has been drummed in that it's not your tree.

FairFuming · 13/11/2023 21:04

I'd bet that they tried talking to the people who own the tree and got a rude response so have decided you are an easier target for their bat shittery

Fairospop22 · 13/11/2023 21:06

Oh jeez they’re going to lose their minds this week. Definitely dump the leaves back haha

Sparkies2012 · 13/11/2023 21:07

We do have a security camera, might try giving them a scare with the fly-tipping route.

Write a note on a leaf and post it through their letterbox.

I love that movie. My robovacuums are named after the two main characters.

Rachie1973 · 13/11/2023 21:09

Lol I love a good batshit thread. Will be watching!

wishihadagoodone · 13/11/2023 21:10

I'm really sorry Op. They're clearly batshit but I'm chuckling at the replies and the idea of you being a leaf ninja😂
