To contact the school on Monday about comments on social media

My eldest DD helped out at a sixth form open evening last week, where prospective sixth formers from the same and other schools were invited to attend a presentation from the headteacher and head of sixth form in the school hall, followed by circulation around the different subject areas to get a taste of what activities are on offer in sixth form lessons.
My DD along with about 25 others was a subject ambassador, in that she helped set up and then demonstrate some activities. She also additionally acted as a tour guide to help direct people around the school.
Either later the same evening or the following day, several photos of the event were posted on Facebook by the school, including some of the subject staff and also a selection of the students who helped out. My DD was one of the students pictured.
Over the last couple of days many people have commented on the event and the students, many being complimentary about the event and how helpful the students were. However there appears to be a number of negative comments appearing about my DD and her appearance in particular, which she is obviously upset about and I'm not sure how to go about stopping it.
Do I contact the school to ask them to remove the article/photos; I don't know how to stop the comments.

Adults have said she looks like a slut and/or slapper!?! I would ask the school to contact them directly to call them out on their behaviour and to let them know that they and their families are not welcome at the school.

I cannot believe kids would make comments like this let alone adults!!

So glad the school are on it, I am sorry your daughter has been upset.

My daughter's friend got a job in a bar during the school holidays and a tourist put a disgusting comment about her on TripAdvisor, it really affected her. The pub were able to comment, but she never worked in a bar again.

There is a bit of a seedy underbelly in the town where the school is located and without sounding pretentious, they aren't the sort of parents/children who would be attending that school anyway, but I know what you mean and the point you are making.
DD is worrying about going to school tomorrow

My DCs school is in a fairly 'disadvantaged' area (i.e. low aspirations rather than rough) and all the girls dress like that. As PPs have said, skirt rolling has been a thing forever. I'm surprised it's the 'underbelly' parents making those comments, perhaps they are jealous if your DDs school is seen as 'posher'?

Agree the school should try and find out who these people are and take action - or perhaps the police can?

But I am a little surprised your DDs school didn't ask the students to wear correct uniform for the event - and therefore in the photos. I know the students all dress like that in the day, but they should probably have been asked to comply with uniform rules for the open day. That would have avoided this nastiness from the outset....

i admin a fb page and I involved the police over threatening posts last week, so I’m pleased your school has contacted you so quickly and remedied the situation.

some people can be rude and have no boundaries.

as far as her uniform goes, I’m surprised one of the school staff didn’t pick her up for her presentation however they were no doubt under pressure to have the event up and running and it would have been the last thing on their minds.

as far as getting in trouble with you, that’s done and dusted and was last week. She is old enough to know the rules and that’s pretty much what I would have to say on the matter had she been mine. I’m mindful I used to wear a big elastic ribbon under my jumper and hiked up my dress as well to more normal level as seen about the school…. If that is how far her rebellion goes, you have raised an awesome child!

What was the nature of the posts? So sorry for your child.

Judecb · 13/11/2023 06:09

If the school posted this, they should not have uploaded photos of children without the parents or the individuals permission. You are entitled to ask them to take this down or at least your DD's photo.

Why on earth would this “seedy underbelly” of parents be perusing the school’s Facebook page?

Nowadays? At my school there were girls who rolled theirs up so high you couldn't see them under their blazer from behind. 😅

Mine too, and I left school in 1974!
