MATT HANCOCK - WHY?

thousandwhispers · 10/11/2023 17:39

Sorry, I know this is total drivel but .... last night I saw that Matt Hancock was in the final of 'SAS Who Dares Wins.' There were 3 in the final. They all managed the last task but the woman (not sure who she was) couldn't hang from the bridge, so she didn't win because they said unfortunately, she just wasn't physically up to it. MH did hang off the bridge for about a minute, but the assessor said that, despite the fact MH had got through all the challenges over the weeks, if it was a war, he would need to trust the person fighting next to him. So he didn't put MH through on that basis. Or that was the impression I had? They put Gareth Gates through who looked like he'd done very well, but he only hung on to the bridge for ten more seconds than MH. But, I'm sure they will often put two or more people through. They just didn't like MH on a personal level, basically.

My question is, what is the thought process with MH? What's going on there? You would think he'd keep a low profile, but not only has he been on this show, he was on 'I'm a Celeb, Get Me Out' this year and I'm sure I saw him doing interviews promoting a book. Who is advising him? Is he trying to ingratiate himself with the public? What is the point? Surely he doesn't need the money?

I find him quite weird overall, in a way I can't put my finger on, and expect to see him on Bake Off, or basically anything that will have him, for years to come.

I feel a bit uncomfortable watching him as it feels too desperate. AIBU?

Masochism. He probably likes being spanked and cock-shamed as well.

At least he's not doing either of those on telly.

He comes across as a smart arrogant cunt. I wouldn't want him on my team behind enemy lines.

God no.

Fucker would shoot you. And then go home and shag your sister.

lookingforaholiday · 11/11/2023 05:19

He is arrogant and would probably have got his team mates killed or at least tortured if in a real life interrogation situation so 100% the right call. Having what it takes to be in the SAS or armed forces is not just about being able to tick boxes on tasks, they truly stand back and say would I want this person fighting next to me, do I trust this person with my life.

He is an odd mix of tone deaf arrogance and desperate neediness.

Even without the pandemic, this is a very off putting character.

That's a great description. He's very odd.

who is Bob Wilson ??

Arsenal footballer (goalkeeper) who then presented Football Focus on BBC for many years. Sadly a daughter of his died of cancer, the Willow Foundation was set up and for this charity work, Bob Wilson was awarded the OBE.

HangTheJib · 10/11/2023 17:54

I saw the clip of his 'interrogation' interview on that programme and I cringed my sphincter inside out'

'Why are you here?'

MH - 'I've been through something really big'

'What was that?'

MH 'Well, I handled the pandemic, din't I?'

He was trying to be all deadpan and manly.

OP, I'd imagine these programmes pay really well. That's why he does it. £100K or whatever for three weeks in the Australian jungle followed by similar for a few weeks in Vietnam for the SAS programme. And he probably wants to be liked by the public. A lot of these politicians are needy feckers.

I felt the same. Whenever I see his smug face I imagine him aged 4 in nursery, standing on top of the slide not letting anyone else on, 'Mattie's slide, you shan't come on it'. He's very weird. Also he knew the inquiry was looming when he took these bookings.

HangTheJib · 10/11/2023 17:59

He's probably seen the way ex politicians like Ed Balls and Michael Portillo have carved out lucrative media careers for themselves and fancies doing the same.

Oh God, it's definitely going to be Strictly next year for him, isn't it?

megletthesecond · 11/11/2023 07:49

Yabu. He has very little self awareness and is just happy to take the money.
Almost all that lot (Johnsons cabinet) are nasty pieces of work IMO. The type of knobs you try to avoid at work.

cheezncrackers · 11/11/2023 07:52

I think he very much needs the money. He's divorced with an ex wife and three kids to support and he's standing down as an MP so he will soon be without a regular income.

Like many ex-politicians I think he's trying to break into media, but he's just utterly un-likeable and the way he dumped his wife by having an affair and then expected the public to forget all that and take him to their hearts in the same way they did with politicians like Ed Balls and Michael Portillo is just bizarre and shows what bad judgement he has. I remember reading an article where it said that his new girlfriend is advising him and he hangs on her every word - well she's not giving great advice is that's true! The public just doesn't like him.

Huge ego, desperate to be liked, needs the money.

This ^

Says it all really.

Tempnamechng · 11/11/2023 07:59

I quite like how he comes across. He is a bit socially awkward, but he is determined and worked hard on both shows. I wonder if we will see him on MAFS next 🤣 probably not after the enquiry.

Oblomov23 · 11/11/2023 08:21

This thread is really funny. Some great posts. I've really chuckled.

He's so awful, so slimy, he makes me cringe.

Sharpness19 · 11/11/2023 08:35

I quite like him! Sorry!

RedRiverShore4 · 11/11/2023 08:35

It was filmed over a year ago but there was publicity about it so it was probably more to sell the book, I don't think the money was a huge amount, he got much more for I'm a celeb.

Celebrity SAS is an odd programme, I find it difficult to watch as one of the commentators or interrogators, whatever they are has a very fake deep voice

burnoutbabe · 11/11/2023 08:47

But what money making opportunities would people suggest?

I am a celeb paid £400k?
Most celebs on it got £50k max.
Wouldn't most of us do it?
It was win win for him
Get money
Show another side to him -he did find third in the votes! Lots of people thought he was okay on it. I certainly only watched every episode as he was in it, rather than say Charlene white. And those who hate him still do, no change there.

SweetFemaleAttitude · 11/11/2023 08:48

Slimy, creepy, murdering bastard.

tpxqi · 11/11/2023 09:15

Remember this guy gave his cronies billions of public sector contracts during Covid. Just test and trace cost us £37bn and didn’t work because the guy who built had no experience.

Matt Hancock is total scum and should be in jail.

tpxqi · 11/11/2023 09:18

It’s just shows you how we are surrounded by vacuous, dense, love island watching public who have no idea what’s going on around them. People on the thread like him, apparently. Never mind that the public lost hundreds of billions because of him and is paying the price now through higher inflation, higher taxation and a generally worse quality of life. How has he got away with it?

newnamethanks · 11/11/2023 09:31

He's trying to gather as much dosh as possible, and ingratiate himself with us, before the Covid enquiry reports. It won't be kind to him. Deservedly so. He's a nasty piece of work and wife is well rid of him. Expensive divorce, I hope.

howdoesyourgardengrowinmay · 11/11/2023 09:59

Here's the future for this sad infamous fuck .......

Celebrity bargain hunt

Celebrity Gogglebox

Celebrity bake off

Celebrity ...... Marigold hotel

howdoesyourgardengrowinmay · 11/11/2023 10:09

And when Gina is finished with him ....

Celebrity love island

I've always thought Matt Hancock did the best he could in a deeply difficult, unprecedented situation. Anybody in his position would have probably cocked up a bit because nobody really knew what they were doing at the start..to what extent is debatable. Not really sure what is motive is on all these celebrity shows 🤔 he probably has a lot of anxiety over the COVID debacle and needs to channel his energy into something.

And "the best he could" included breaking workplace COVID rules to get it on with his girlfriend, lying about the measures he'd put in place (he hadn't) to protect the vulnerable in care homes and thinking he knew better than clinical staff about who should live and die.

Unfortunately for all of us, Matt Hancock's best was pretty fucking hopeless. He's an weak-willed egotistical vainglorious middle manager with a dodgy character.

He didn't just find himself in this place. He has spent a lifetime climbing the greasy pole to get there. I think we deserve a little better than "tried his inadequate best."
