Honestly.. I think I just saw a ghost...

Yep, really. And no, I'm not drunk BlushGrin

Driving home from work this evening, on the same roads I drive daily. There's a small church I always admire on my way through one of the villages.

Anyway, I pass it this evening, and notice a 'man' in what looked like a bright orange, almost yellow coat / jacket. I remember not seeing anything much, other than that and some legs. I thought it odd since he was stood on my side of the road, on the tiniest slither of verge. There really wasn't much there at all, and it is an extremely unsafe stretch of road in itself. No streetlights or anything like that, just windy country roads.

Anyway, I remember the shock as I saw him, I was thinking why on earth would somebody stand there in such a dangerous spot, let alone barely move out the way so I could pass!

Well. I passed slowly and carefully, before checking in my mirror to make sure he was still okay. When I did, there was absolutely nothing there. Nobody to be seen. The road is surrounded by open fields, no bushes or trees. There's literally nowhere he could have gone to, logically.

I know how stupid this sounds. Honestly if it hadn't just happened to me, I would be reading this post thinking the OP was delusional 🫣🤣

Has anybody had anything similar before?! I'm absolutely baffled!!!!

Hi all. Ghost here. Just to say we do mostly wear white, but it is a nightmare to keep clean in this weather so some of us do switch to anoraks during winter (hi-vis orange included).

😂😅

ideallyno · 08/11/2023 22:33

I mean, it would be an awful tale.. being a ghost stuck in high-vis clothing

Presume your headlights lit him up, so how could you have seen him once you'd passed if theres no streetlights? am i missing something?
(i believe in ghosts btw)

Yeah this

DevonSeaSwimmer · 08/11/2023 22:35

being a ghost in hi-viz occasionally occupying a quiet road in the dark, is too tragic to entertain!!
Especially as the high-viz obviously didn't do its job and keep him safe if he popped his clogs wearing it, poor chap.

Guesswho88 · 08/11/2023 22:37

I shit you not almost the exact same thing happened to me! Man in a high-vis, I was going down an incline. There was a slight bend where my view of him became obscured, when I straightened up again he was no where to be found!

tylerina · 08/11/2023 22:40

Sure it wasn't a scarecrow??

ideallyno · 08/11/2023 22:41

So a little update for you all.

I asked on our local village group on Facebook, if anybody knows of any incidents on that stretch of road before. I didn't ask why or give any further details than that.

December 2003, a young man was hit off his bike whilst riding home from work. He was killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene.

Omg 😳 reading this give me the chills!

Elderflower14 · 08/11/2023 22:44

My late DH was driving me home from work one night. I fell asleep and was woken by a blood curdling scream and late DH telling me he had the seen the ghost of a Russian soldier.
I didn't improve matters by laughing. It was a lady with mental health issues who had three outfit's.. The Russian one, a boy scouts uniform and a lollypop ladies white coat and a sailors hat with the brim and tassel. (wasn't laughing at the ladies mh issues bit at DH reaction!)
DH had caught her in the car lights standing on the edge of a farmyard!!

Mirabai · 08/11/2023 22:44

I like a good ghost story but how many ghosts wear high vis jackets?

Oh no
Wearing high vis but killed by a reckless driver?

my mate was in a hit and run, he was wearing high vis. Thankfully he's still with us (in a coma for a few days and still dealing with injuries years later).

Temporaryname158 · 08/11/2023 22:48

A cyclist may well have been wearing day glow clothing. Poor person and their family

DevonSeaSwimmer · 08/11/2023 22:48

What a sad update OP.

ideallyno · 08/11/2023 22:50

Very sad update. But also it's spooked me a little more.

Oh wow OP I'm a big believer and believe you and as it's near his passing month/anniversary and 20 years, they often show themselves to make sure they aren't forgotten 💜poor man RIP

menopausalmare · 08/11/2023 22:50

Another vote for a bloke in hi vis. The headlights locked him up but the rear lights couldn't. The church added to the idea of a ghost.

CSB10 · 08/11/2023 22:54

That's the lesser spotted Highus Visulus, they only come out at night to fuck up the roads ready for the morning rush hour

It's so sad isn't it. A wandering soul.

Perhaps light a candle for the poor lad.

Hi Vis jacket.. he'll be from BT Open reach, they're highly elusive you know!

I think you're more likely to see a ghost IMHO

@SurelySmartie I don't think that ghosts ate restricted to bed sheets and chains.

Edited for spelling. Again.

Discointhekitchen · 08/11/2023 22:58

SurelySmartie · 08/11/2023 20:39

I just don’t believe a ghost would wear bright orange.

😂

You realise most roads will have had someone killed on them, right?

It's the rule, not the exception.

pontipinemum · 08/11/2023 23:16

My neighbour has a full jacket that in day light looks sort of greeny/ grey but if you pass him out walking at night he glows up like a nothing I have ever seen. Could have been something like that

lazylinguist22 · 08/11/2023 23:20

Maybe it was. Someone told me that if you don’t see time as linear then ghosts are actually just faint remains of the past in that place. I wasn’t smoking weed at the time (or ever for clarification) but it did make a little bit of sense if I squinted funny… 🤔

Anyway I had a poltergeist experience aged 14. Just once. 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is also the case if you do see time as linear?
