Yep, really. And no, I'm not drunk BlushGrin

Driving home from work this evening, on the same roads I drive daily. There's a small church I always admire on my way through one of the villages.

Anyway, I pass it this evening, and notice a 'man' in what looked like a bright orange, almost yellow coat / jacket. I remember not seeing anything much, other than that and some legs. I thought it odd since he was stood on my side of the road, on the tiniest slither of verge. There really wasn't much there at all, and it is an extremely unsafe stretch of road in itself. No streetlights or anything like that, just windy country roads.

Anyway, I remember the shock as I saw him, I was thinking why on earth would somebody stand there in such a dangerous spot, let alone barely move out the way so I could pass!

Well. I passed slowly and carefully, before checking in my mirror to make sure he was still okay. When I did, there was absolutely nothing there. Nobody to be seen. The road is surrounded by open fields, no bushes or trees. There's literally nowhere he could have gone to, logically.

I know how stupid this sounds. Honestly if it hadn't just happened to me, I would be reading this post thinking the OP was delusional 🫣🤣

Has anybody had anything similar before?! I'm absolutely baffled!!!!

I had a weird thing last week (I was going to write my own post actually and still might do!)

Walking along in the middle of the day, lots of people around, and walking at the same pace but a few steps in front and to the side, in the road, is this woman. I'd say late 50s, early 60s, wearing quite an unusual outfit and carrying what seemed like heavy shopping bags. I was watching her for a few steps, as she crossed in front of me, and I was looking at her outfit...it was like a purple velvet mini skirt and boots and a long coat. We both walked past a parked SUV, her on one side, me on another, and as I walked past this car she just completely disappeared.

I literally stopped on the pavement, and turned to check she hadn't fallen over in the road, but she'd gone. She definitely wasn't in the car, she hadn't crossed the road. She just totally disappeared. It was the weirdest thing.

I spend quite a lot of time out in the dark and I wouldn’t really expect to see something behind me if I was driving in complete darkness. Once it’s dark you can’t see anything outside your headlights unless they’re are streetlights. Sounds like you passed a walker or runner in highviz who jumped to the side of the road for you to pass and then disappeared from your view a soon as your lights were off them!

I saw DH in the garden a couple of years after he died. His upper body, arms folded were very clear, then his legs sort of hazy though I could tell the way he was standing if that makes sense. I blinked hard, and nothing there. But definitely DH , it was bright sunshine and I was only feet away.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 08/11/2023 22:09

I expect he just teleported.

I just don’t believe a ghost would wear bright orange.

Hi all. Ghost here. Just to say we do mostly wear white, but it is a nightmare to keep clean in this weather so some of us do switch to anoraks during winter (hi-vis orange included).

Onethingatatime23 · 08/11/2023 22:10

Remarkable that the ghost was wearing hi vis.

TheKnittedCharacter · 08/11/2023 22:11

Well ghosts wear only sheets with eyeholes or possibly Victorian garb. So this can’t have been one.

See also - there’s no such thing.

Imagine being stuck for eternity in a high viz jacket. Poor ghost.

That’s why you should choose your outfit carefully each day, it could end up being your ghost outfit.

Janieforever · 08/11/2023 22:13

Loving it, not just the believing in ghosts but believing in ghosts in hivis jackets, 😂😂😂

Onethingatatime23 · 08/11/2023 22:15

A runner scared the shit out of me a couple of years ago by suddenly appearing at the front/side of my car on a dark evening, right next to the middle of the roundabout and not wearing any hi vis. They suddenly appeared in my headlights then disappeared again into the dark. It wasn't a ghost but a very reckless pedestrian.

GrimGrinningGhosts · 08/11/2023 22:15

Driving back from a trip one night I fell asleep (in the passenger seat). I awoke at dusk to see a Lady, in full Victorian dress, walking slowly up the street. Stunned did not cover it.
it was at that point I realised the M6 North had been closed and the diversion had re routed us past the Black Country Living Museum at just past closing time.
Still makes me chuckle to myself that.

This is brilliant 😂

Can I ask a serious question..
What DO / ARE ghosts meant to wear ConfusedGrin
I mean, surely not all ghosts are white, see through or in old age clothing?!

You stays as you dies.
According to the residents of Button House, anyway.

Toottooot · 08/11/2023 22:18

My ghostie was dressed like an auld Victorian wifey. Freaked me right oot.

FlamingoQueen · 08/11/2023 22:20

My ghost was in a WW1 uniform!

Mummyratbag · 08/11/2023 22:20

On nearly every woo thread people ask "why are there only Victorian/Edwardian ghosts? Why don't you ever see a ghost in joggers/trainers etc?" ...then here we are with a ghost in full health and safety get up and people still aren't happy 😂

Fusterclucked · 08/11/2023 22:22

As you passed him the ghost shifted into your car. He’s in the back

LadyMacB · 08/11/2023 22:25

The most obvious explanation is usually the correct one, and here it’s that you saw a (live) person in an orange coat.

I’m not sure the most obvious explanation is that you saw the restless spirit of a dead person wearing hi-vis.

Hi Vis jacket.. he'll be from BT Open reach, they're highly elusive you know!

Hahahahahaaaaaa - they're like rocking horse poo!

ideallyno · 08/11/2023 22:27

I will research the area and update incase anyone is interested.

Thanks for the entertainment tonight, it's been a good giggle reading the responses! Xx

A bloke standing there wearing hi vis at night and something entirely mundane and unsurprising, even if he is standing in an odd/unsafe place, that's part of some people's jobs. I've passed men in hi vis on train tracks at night, the train passing them on the next line over. You can't see someone in hi vis in the dark when your headlights aren't on them, it's pretty easy to slip out of view.

DevonSeaSwimmer · 08/11/2023 22:28

OP's is an attention-seeking ghost. He obviously wanted to be seen. Perhaps next time she drives by he'll wave a big placard saying 'Ghost here! Please look! I'm lonely! I've been haunting here for yonks and nobody ever notices me!'.

NaughtyBoyGeorgeMichaelJacksonBrown · 08/11/2023 22:29

I have all the gubbins for running in the dark - including hi-viz. If a car went past me slowly (I know you were doing it to be kind but it can be scary), I'd turn off my lights and remove hi-viz until it had gone.; very easy to hide in the dark in a rear view mirror.

I live in a populated village but being on foot means you can cut across the countryside and be in 'impossibly rural' places really easily.

Definitely go back in daylight to reassure yourself there wasn't any drama but like PPs have said; being a ghost in hi-viz occasionally occupying a quiet road in the dark, is too tragic to entertain!!
