I have this habit of wanting to wear something different everyday sometimes I might just wear a jumper to the school run so it's not dirty but not clean enough to go back in the wardrobe and just gets put in a pile down my
side of the bed and this happens until I have a pile of worn briefly clothes clogging up my side and I was just wondering if this is normal as dh puts everything in the wash that's he's worn even for half an hour.

Why can't you put a jumper you've worn once back in the wardrobe?

Dacadactyl · 08/11/2023 18:01

Depends what I've done in the clothes tbh. If id only worm a jumper for the school run, to me that's clean enough to go back in the wardrobe. If id got home and cooked a bacon sandwich in it, then I'd wash it

mynameiscalypso · 08/11/2023 18:03

Welcome to the world of the chairdrobe!

Ashleysaidwhat · 08/11/2023 18:03

I am a one wear in the wash. I can't stand the smell of yesterdays deodorant and perfume on my clothes

ThatAlbinoCat · 08/11/2023 18:03

Knickers, socks, t-shirts and pyjamas - daily
bras - every other day
jumpers and trousers - every other day, unless something spilt on them

SundayAnon · 08/11/2023 18:06

Tops, pants, socks. Daily.
Trousers 2-3 days.
Jumpers 2-3 days.
Bras 2-3 days.
PJs 2 nights.

I just rehang things between wears. It seems preferable to dumping them in a pile.

erandge · 08/11/2023 18:32

So those that wear 2 or 3 days for trousers and jumpers, do these go back in the wardrobe/drawers or somewhere else, In between wears?

ApolloandDaphne · 08/11/2023 18:43

I put things back in the wardrobe. I can't think what people imagine might happen if you do this. I have cardigans i wear over and over and don't wash. They all get hung back in the wardrobe between wearings.

Chocolatepeanutbuttercupsandicecream · 08/11/2023 18:46

I hang things up unless I know they’re going back on the next day. I don’t think it’s going to contaminate anything! You could always hang worn items inside out or turn the hanger around on the rail if it’s just about remembering?

mondaytosunday · 08/11/2023 18:47

Yes i do similar except i hang mine on the back of the door or on the towel rail in the bathroom.

jlpth · 08/11/2023 18:49

Get a little rail/rack and hang worn stuff on there so it's airing, rather than shut in the wardrobe.

Beaverbridge · 08/11/2023 18:52

I put mine over banister and wear next day if they've only been on a couple of hours.

RaininSummer · 08/11/2023 18:54

Mine go to the in between place eg I have 6 or dresses for work. Wear once then hang up away from the clean clean stuff ready for 2nd wear. Washing stuff every even brief wear is insane and clothing must look old quickly.

Funkyslippers · 08/11/2023 18:56

Tops, bras, socks I wear twice
Knickers once
Trousers/jeans I wear a handful of times or until they're visibly dirty
Gym stuff once unless I didn't sweat

ReadtheReviews · 08/11/2023 19:01

Ah, the medium pile.
It is destroying my house tbh.

MyAnacondaMight · 08/11/2023 19:08

I keep a drawer specially for “in use” items, but i prioritise these items and wear 2-3 times before washing.

The odd dress that I wear twice just goes back in the wardrobe with the hanger facing the other way, and I’ll pull it out to wear again the next week before washing.

If you’re just going to dump it down the side of your bed, you might as well dump it in the laundry basket and be done with it.

Createausername1970 · 08/11/2023 19:08

What's the the thing at the end of the bed called? Not a headboard - guess it's a foot board? We have a wooden framed bed with a foot board. Mostly things that I want to wear again are draped over that.

Knickers and socks are worn once. T-shirts depend on what I have been doing. I quite often wear the same one two days running, but not if it smells of cooking or sweat. Trousers, leggings, cardies and hoodies I wear them until I think I really ought to wash them and wear something else.

Elieza · 08/11/2023 19:09

Pants and socks one wear then washing basket.

Bras two or three wears.

Jumpers and cardi’s a good few days or until they are dirty (I sniff test but they don’t smell too bad as not next to skin)

I allow myself a small pile of worn once other clothes. T-shirts, skirts, jeans, tops. I keep them on top of my bedroom stool to separate them from totally clean stuff in the wardrobe and drawers.

I make myself wear them rather than dipping back into clean clothes when the pile reaches three of anything.

Even if I don’t fancy that colour that day or whatever.

If I don’t the pile just grows and gets too heavy, causing creases on the bottom items - and then I defo don’t wear it again!

Findyourneutralspace · 08/11/2023 19:12

The floordrobe. Drives me mad but I can’t put things back in a drawer once they’ve been worn.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 08/11/2023 19:14

KnickerlessParsons · 08/11/2023 18:00

Why can't you put a jumper you've worn once back in the wardrobe?

@KnickerlessParsons

you shouldn't put worn clothes in wardrobes because it attracts moths.

ApolloandDaphne · 08/11/2023 19:19

I've always put worn clothes back in the wardrobe and have never had a moth in all my 61 years!

Pinkpinkpink15 · 08/11/2023 19:24

ApolloandDaphne · 08/11/2023 18:43

I put things back in the wardrobe. I can't think what people imagine might happen if you do this. I have cardigans i wear over and over and don't wash. They all get hung back in the wardrobe between wearings.

@ApolloandDaphne

you're not supposed to as it attracts moths.

@erandge

knickers socks bras straight in the wash

leggings/t shirts if I've worn them all day, straight in the wash, otherwise on top of a low shelf unit.

jeans usually twice, I'd wear them more except a medical condition makes me smell like biscuits (could be worse) & I worry it will smell 'off' to others. Prior to this 3/4 times.

cardi/jumper etc until they feel they've been worn long enough!! No idea how many times as it might be half an hour or a whole day?!

I have an open hanging rail these go on & i usually just wash them on a nice day for drying rather than at a specified amount of wears! When there are no nice days, wash & put on the airer when i just feel they've been worn enough.

Ladyj84 · 08/11/2023 19:25

Underwear and socks daily wash, the rest trousers usually 2 maybe 3 days tops 2 days unless the kids mess it lol

Ecnerual · 08/11/2023 19:27

We too have a chairdrobe. Hate it but we've previously had clothes moths and carpet beetles (old house, both were in situ when we moved in) and it is advised to not put worn clothes back in drawers/wardrobes because sweat attracts them.

To answer your question:
Knickers, socks, vest tops, t-shirts: 1 day
Jumpers: 1-3 days (sniff test under the arms)
Trousers: 3-4 days.

Zuve · 08/11/2023 19:30

My mother said, underwear wear and wash. Tops air carefully folded then placed in the cupboard. Skirts wash weekly but fold and air. Old man's shirts carefully fold and back on the hangers in the airing cupboard before returning to the cupboard
