Should shop refund me?

Purchased pair of trainers from a cool trainer shop in April. Tried them on in store and loved them.

Didn't wear immediately- they got put in wardrobe as were a more autumn winter shoe.

Just got them out to wear and shop has given me two right feet.

Ive not for a reciept but have proof of purchase from my debit card.

Should the shop refund or exchange for me? Unlikely those trainers are still in stock, they weren’t cheap (£98!)have called the shop numerous times today but no answer, emailed too.

kicking myself I didn’t check them when I got home!

7 months down the line? Yabu!

Flickersy · 08/11/2023 13:52

Given the length of time and lack of receipt, I doubt it but it can't hurt to ask.

If you loved them so much it's a bit weird you put them away for 6 months and never even opened the box to be honest.

Fionaville · 08/11/2023 13:55

I doubt you'll get a refund. There's a small possibility that they still have the other shoe in the stockroom. Speak to the manager and see if they will find out. At best, you might get some store credit for another pair.

divinededacende · 08/11/2023 14:49

Gutted! I don't think you're being unreasonable to chance it as long as you politely accept if they say no. You don't ask, you don't get. They made a mistake and you left it a long time (for a valid enough reason), everyone's kinda at fault.

If you don't feel bold enough to flat out ask I would go in and tell them what happened and ask if there's any chance they still have the shoes in stock to swap it out - even if you know they don't have them. Make a joke of it and see if they naturally offer a refund/credit. Or you might feel confident enough to flat out ask by this point.

You never know, they might still stock the shoe.

Good luck!

Sartre · 08/11/2023 14:51

With the length of time, nope.

Universalsnail · 08/11/2023 14:51

I would explain the situation and try for an exchange but you may have left it too long

Ibravedaflood · 08/11/2023 14:51

Give them a visit. Surely 2 opposite shoes sat in a cupboard somewhere?

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 08/11/2023 15:07

Agree it’s been ages. But they were brown suede trainers and it was rainy April and in my head I thought I’ll put them away for autumn. They’re quite hard to style. They’re definitely a unique trainer but I do love them.

Im hoping because they’re so unique that they never sold and the other trainer is still in their stockroom.

I would ask in the hope that they have a box with 2 left feet in their stockroom but wouldn't be surprised to be denied a refund.

Go in and ask, worst they can say is no.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 08/11/2023 15:16

I used to work in a shoe shop many, many years ago. We’d find odd shoe sizes together , 2 right / left feet together. Might be worth a chance to see if they still have the odd bods !

TeaKitten · 08/11/2023 15:24

I’d go and ask, it’s clear what mistake they’ve made and that the shoes haven’t been worn. You may get someone who’s unwilling to budge but I think there’s a fair chance theyl help you out.

RandomUsernameHere · 08/11/2023 15:26

I'd definitely try and get a refund

Its5656 · 08/11/2023 15:28

I work in retail and we can find receipts very easily with a bank statement. If this was my store then we'd definitely offer in store credit. Can you go into the store with your bank statement?

Smellslikesummer · 08/11/2023 15:43

Definitely go in and ask. If they have 2 left feet they won’t be able to sell them so should be grateful

scrantonelectriccity · 08/11/2023 15:46

I interested to know what shoe it is!

LIZS · 08/11/2023 15:46

Well they are not fit for purpose as a non pair and presumably another pair were the opposite and unsaleable. Bank statement is proof of purchase.

CatamaranViper · 08/11/2023 15:48

I would have thought that after that length of time, they would have sent the two left shoes back to HO along with damages to be written off. Worth an ask but unfortunately I don't think you'll be successful

DaizenShine · 08/11/2023 15:49

As a retail manager, it's worth a go. I don't believe they're obliged and I don't work in a shoe shop but I've definitely held on to items for months in anticipation of the customer coming back if I've spotted an issue. You can only ask!

Nike dunk low trainers in a gorgeous brown suede with orange and pink detailing. Sound mad but look lovely! Promise!

Right I’m off to the shop tomorrow, other side of London but I’ll give it a go seeing as they neither answer their phone or reply to emails!

This is good to know! Have the transaction on my Amex and can see the references etc. I’ll bring it with me

@Canyoudigityesyoucan I manage a shoe shop 😊 In this situation I’d do what I could to rectify the situation for you.
Take your bank statement and card you paid with. they should be able to use those details to find the receipt on their end.
Hopefully they still have the other odds and can just give you a correct pair. If not then they may be able to offer you store credit or an exchange as a goodwill gesture.

This issue you may have, depending on when the store received their delivery of the shoes, is that the other odds may have been returned to the manufacturer. Within a certain length of time we can claim for issues/faults etc from the manufacturer so if they’ve come across the odds within that time then they may have assumed they’ve been sent to them like that and returned them. We personally check every pair that are delivered to check for matching size/colour/L&R foot etc but I know not every store does.
