Women's nightwear rant

Kangaroobrain · 08/11/2023 13:35

Went to a well known clothing store yesterday to buy new pyjamas for myself, and for my 86 year old mum as a birthday gift.
Not all, but I'd say a good 70% of all the women's nightwear looked like it was designed for little girls - pastel shades with teddies, Minnie mouse, glitter, babyish slogans etc.

I really struggled to find some nice, grown up looking designs. Am I missing something - why is there an assumption that adult women want to dress like 5 year olds at bedtime?

I have been nowhere but m+s since they started doing pjs with pockets!
Omg how can something so basic be so amazing! I no longer feel like my nan with a tissue up my sleeve or tucked in my boobs!
Please include if anywhere else has started doing pockets too!

British Boxer do PJs with pockets. The fannel ones are lovely and warm and last years.

Asda is my go to for pyjamas.

What I hate is that most of them are cuffed at the legs, just why?? I want something loose and comfortable not feeling like my ankles are restricted.

Jennywren2000 · 08/11/2023 17:29

Totally agree this is an issue: I want something elegant, soft, neutral coloured and comfy for bed, but most things are either babyish, tiny with uncomfortable straps or just fugly.

Its an issue (admittedly a small one!)

I knew it wasn’t primark! They have decent adult PJs!!! Only place I like for pajamas now.

like you I’m fed up of anything pink sparkly, added bows, slogans are poor shapes.

I also find the same applies to swimwear! Especially teens girls.

gotomomo · 08/11/2023 17:37

My assumption is they are aimed at teens. As a grown woman I don't wear nightwear, unless camping of course when I wear joggers

Thatsshallot1967 · 08/11/2023 17:44

TU is dreadful for nightwear with all their silly cartoons, bears, hearts and glitter.

I do however prefer nighties/nightshirts as I can get all tangled and uncomfortable in PJs and then there's also the whole 'do you wear pants with PJs' debate! 😉

My gripe with nightshirts is that most, even the winter collections, have SHORT SLEEVES! Guys don't have to put up with this shit, having pyjamas with short sleeves.
