That's a big stretch from @Tandora s first comment.

That is the movement she/he is supporting, it's unambiguous.

timeforacoffeebreak · 07/11/2023 12:35

@lilyblue5 no I did not say I wasn't coming back. That was another poster. I certainly have, and planned to come back and read people's opinions.

Apologies, been on a few threads today and have lost track!

Homophobia is wrong.

That's a cat and a rainbow - not sure it has anything to do with pride 🤦‍♀️

Sorry are you not seeing the middle of the cat??
It's not the rainbow in the back that I am talking about. I am not that stupid !

@Tandora I think it's actually called chronic people pleasing

Anyone who think these things are solely about teaching children kindness & inclusion has not dug into this.

Here is the trans beaver with mastectomy scars from Blue's Clues, a show my 3yo is too old for. A beaver. In a parade celebrating slicing her breasts off. In a program aimed at toddlers.

I just watched the video on youtube. The fuck is going on?

I have a beautiful 5 year old who knows to be kind to everyone- but knows nothing about LGBTQ+ and the likes of as of yet, as she is 5.

I love the Pride flag! I hate that pride flag. There are a whole bunch of individual flags under the pride banner, the original flag should never have been but butchered with just one particular example - that made it political (and ugly, sorry 🤷🏼‍♀️).

The original is beautiful, balanced & inclusive as was it's meaning. This new one isn't at all even just from a design perspective!

For that reason it pisses me off every time I see it cos it doesn't represent inclusivity at all, anymore, it represents the absolute domination of everything by one faction of the community.

And believe it or not - it's perfectly possible to think the above & not be transphobic!

I agree. Thank you.

I wouldn't object to this being sold in a specialist pack for people who are choosing to support the cause. The fact that it's being sold in a mixed bag like this as if it is something really innocuous is what's worrying - this one debate on Mumsnet shows that it's far from a neutral symbol, whichever side you come down on. So no, I don't think it's appropriate.

You haven't told your kid that gay people exist?

@AmazingSnakeHead I bought these for my 5 year olds party bags.. thank you

@wensleywhale - I was under the impression that the G word is forbidden now on Mumsnet, hence the 'coyness'.

gotomomo · 07/11/2023 12:23

Those toys are collectibles more aimed at teens into anime anyway.

I wouldn't say so. My 5 year old loves them and I have some myself as an adult. Just regular animal ones though. I know they do a lot of different special editions now

It's about 3 or 4 after my other one.

To quote the wonderful Magdalen Berns:

"I'd rather be rude than a fucking liar."

Teaching our daughters to be kind does them a disservice. I teach mine to be honest.

I haven't told my four year old that gay people exist. I don't see the need to. He'll learn the different families stuff when he meets them.

HomeschoolMum88 · 07/11/2023 12:49

Sailawaytocromer · 07/11/2023 10:15

YANBU. Small children are not trans and the label/idea shouldn’t be near them. Let them be children ffs. Anyone who’d like to tell me what a bigot I am, go ahead. I won’t be checking the thread.

I agree wholeheartedly. These people had better stay away from my child.

And Squishmallows be damned. I won't ever buy another.

timeforacoffeebreak · 07/11/2023 12:50

@Hereforthebunfights she knows she and anybody else is free to love whoever they want to love when they grow up. She doesn't know it's called gay, lesbian, bisexuality etc. because to me they are just regular people and not everybody needs a label.
Same for trans people, you are free to do whatever you like. But do NOT push the symbol onto children's things, or things marketed towards children.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 07/11/2023 12:51

There isn't one like this in my pack of 100 (and there isn't an actual black cat squishmallow with a trans / progression flag) so this has been designed and included deliberately as opposed to 'copied' ftom official merch. As others have said, at first it may seem innocent and innocuous, but it's really not. All part and parcel of the current push by Trans activists. It's everywhere now because companies think it's popular, hence it gets pushed more without any real care about the message it gives. (Or in some cases, they know exactly what they are doing)

I agree, it's not appropriate and the whole movement is dangerous for kids.

Witchcraftandhokum · 07/11/2023 12:54

It's a fucking rainbow and a cat. Stop using it to spread hate.

Look up 'Grandad's Pride', another wholesome book aimed at four year old kids where colourful illustrations of men in bondage gear, double mastectomy scars and not so subtle MAP references can be found.

You could, but then you wouldn't be explaining the self-styled "progress flag" as an obvious symbol of the Judaeo-Christian biblical cis-hetero-patriarchy.

timeforacoffeebreak · 07/11/2023 12:55

@Witchcraftandhokum look at the middle of the cat before forming this silly opinion. Thank you

@TheCadoganArms I saw a lot of press about this a few months ago!!
I didn't see anything about MAP references though?? WHAT??
