Correct. You can't.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/11/2023 21:55

No. Not unless your family is just two people.

Happiestonthebeach · 06/11/2023 21:57

How many children do you have?
I’ve just got back from southern Spain. £450 for flights for us £550 for accomodation. We could have cooked in more than we did and spent £900 for the week? 5 out of 7 days we were sunbathing on the beach or round the pool. We did go Friday to Friday due to inset which made it lots cheaper for flights.
You probably couldn’t get a package for the same price.

haribosmarties · 06/11/2023 21:58

I mean I went to Italy for a week, with a family of four in August for under 2k last August?
Airbnb with a pool... rented a car.... booked flights. Cobbled it together myself to keep within a budget. Very beautiful.. visited Florence, arezzo, sienna, corona...
If you go self catering and book all the bits yourself you can make a cheap holiday.

gotomomo · 06/11/2023 21:59

You can get self catering in Spain or Greece.

I’ve got 2 but they’re small kids, 4 and 2.

ive found flights and flying separately lately seems very expensive

I booked Turkey last week for two weeks over October half term for next year (my children get two weeks) £1.9k easy jet self catering. Could’ve got cheaper but I wanted a specific location!

Dacadactyl · 06/11/2023 22:00

I've never seen a holiday for 4 people, hitting those marks, that have also met my criteria of "a place I want to stay in".

Gymmum82 · 06/11/2023 22:00

Not a chance in hell in august. Maybe in October but it wouldn’t be hot.

You might be able to get something if you went at whit week and took them out of school for a day or 2 before or after. But even then for £2k you’d struggle for a family of 4

Tempnamechng · 06/11/2023 22:01

My lovely holidays are all in the UK, so absolutely you can get a holiday for that.

Bluffyslummers · 06/11/2023 22:02

So that’s crazy, the ukino one flying from midlands / london was close to 3k another reason why Scotland is superior to England right there lol

OP posts:
museumum · 06/11/2023 22:02

That price is a ferry / euro camp type holiday. Not “naice” but nice pool, family friendly, warm weather, relaxing, not actually ‘camping’ under canvas usually… we like the Netherlands but if you live in the south of England France might be easier to get to.

JingleBellsBatman · 06/11/2023 22:02

Course you can. Especially at the end of august. Can you fly from Scotland airports?

Bluffyslummers · 06/11/2023 22:02

Right there with you! My rule is accommodation as to be as least as good as my house or I’m not going

We’re like a 7 hr drive (no stops) from Scotland- although to save some money might be worth it… back to jet2 and tui I go

Scottish half term is generally the week before the English half term so another reason you pay less is because it's "term time". It's really easy to get to the airport by public transport, there is a tram that goes direct from Waverley to the airport or you can drive and park in the long stay car park. It add onto the journey but the pay off is that you can save £££ on the holiday cost (for us it priced up as £1900 less to fly from Edinburgh).

Figgygal · 06/11/2023 22:05

I'm taking the kids out of school next year
Fuck it

2 adults 2 kids
May half term Saturday so no school missed £3700 a week b&b
Thursday before 2 days off school £1900
Tuesday before £1280
Will upgrade locally to HB and avoid holiday company mark up

I understand the sentiment, but it's for a week. I know to rent my house for a week through AirB&B would cost way more than my holiday budget, but I don't need a 5 bed house or a king size bed or a washing machine on holiday. Surely holiday accommodation is always a bit worse than your own house?

ZenNudist · 06/11/2023 22:06

No not a naice holiday. You can stay in a hovel with no pool or aircon booked on air bnb but now flights are super expensive as soon as there's a sniff of a school holiday.

For me it’s balancing with my AL because If we go outside of term time I / dh still need to take time off again for half term, but ordinarily in a heartbeat I’d take them out

We did Greece last year (August) and Island hopped and could have done for that price (we erm, splurged on a few nights).

I'd also not write off Eurocamp style holidays. But avoid Eurocamp which is less naice and find an independent 5* campsite with chalets. Very easily done. We spent a week in France last year in July and it was around £750 for ferries leaving plenty for accommmmodation. Site was full of middle class families from the Home Counties with kids called Hugo and Sebastian trying to be wholesome. You just need to pick the right site.

But all inclusive? Not a chance. Although you said NAICE which AI is not.

Cactifly · 06/11/2023 22:07

Half term prices might depend a lot on the week you go. Half term this year either fell last week or two weeks ago. I suspect last week was slightly less usual and therefore cheaper.
