I think you might need to do the maths....if your 2 year old is in day care all year then doesn’t matter when you go - if your 4 year old is in school - then wouldn’t paying for holiday club be cheaper than the reduction in your holiday cost by taking out of school - which means you wouldn’t have to take AL - also there’s a BH in Aug so you wouldn’t be working that day anyway.

Another consideration is that UK summer is relatively OK weather wise - so can do weekends at the beach, outdoor pool, picnics in parks, countryside, camping, weekend breaks etc - so IMHO bit of waste to go off to get heat then......we always did our “hot beach / pool holiday” in the bleak mid winter ie Feb half term - which feels amazing to have blue skies and heat at that time of the year when there’s barely daylight or it’s even dry enough to get little ones outdoors for a walk at the weekend - or even push for 2 weeks / 10 days at Easter (can absorb x2 BHs then). Need to get to the canaries for the heat at that time of the year - if you do a bit of research you can find lovely quiet villages with great restaurants and character - and 2 and 4 year olds just need pool, sunshine, sand and sea.

No club runs half term and then certain weeks over x mas, Easter and summer and I’ve already got 2 weeks booked off for a big hols hence the small budget for a secondary one

Ooh I see. Firstly I'd change to an all year round nursery rather than term time only so that you can take your holiday whenever you want whilst they're little. Probably not helpful but if you've got no other childcare support like family etc I can't see why you've chosen a term time nursery.

It’s not a term time nursery. The centre is just closed 4/ 5 weeks of the year for staff.

the nursery is attached to the school which is a feeder school for the best high school in the area.

the school offers club over the summer, need to check on Easter but they don’t have club in half term.

How many children do you have?
I’ve just got back from southern Spain. £450 for flights for us £550 for accomodation. We could have cooked in more than we did and spent £900 for the week? 5 out of 7 days we were sunbathing on the beach or round the pool. We did go Friday to Friday due to inset which made it lots cheaper for flights.
You probably couldn’t get a package for the same price.

Yes but it's November.

I'm taking the kids out of school next year
Fuck it

2 adults 2 kids
May half term Saturday so no school missed £3700 a week b&b
Thursday before 2 days off school £1900
Tuesday before £1280
Will upgrade locally to HB and avoid holiday company mark up

What's HB?

We've just booked a week in France for May £1250 ferry and premium cottage so could get cheaper if slightly lesser accommodation. Usually spend about £1k there but we like a drink so again could be less.

Which part of france?
How many people?

LoreleiG · 08/11/2023 18:03

I am crap at finding good holidays within budget so following for tips. Based on my experience I agree, no, you can’t.

Sanch1 · 08/11/2023 20:49

Only have finite annual leave babe or I would! In a heartbeat!

Take parental leave for a week, unless you're paid loads, it will still probably work out cheaper.

Garlicnaan · 08/11/2023 20:56

We stayed in a "premium" room in a 3 star hotel and it was really good. Modern furnishings, decent pool, location good. Wouldn't have stayed in the non premium but was still lots cheaper than 4 star. Maybe that's an option?

Madamlulu · 08/11/2023 22:03

Why are you going in school hols? Do you work in eduction? x

Toottooot · 08/11/2023 22:14

Travel outwith school holidays - especially with a 4 year old. Simple.

Ooooh interesting idea. I get about 3.2 a month so about £800 a week, definitely worth looking into !

I can’t. I only have 25 days AL and 10 are already gone, I would ideally like another holiday and a mini break so that’s 8 days. I need some over x mas and then the only club is summer hol club for 4 year old there’s no Easter or half term club so need to use AL for that too

We did 2 weeks in France in the Dordogne in august in a lovely safari tent with everything we needed, lovely site with pool - family of 4 for around 2k. But we drove, went on Ferry, self catered etc. Depends what you want! Still a relaxing holiday in a gorgeous place!

Sorry, old post I know but I’d love a recommendation for something like this. Do you have a link to the cottage please? Was it nice? Thanks.

When I say 'cottage' its a mobile home on a campsite/holiday village type place that they refer to as a cottage! But it was nice. Try Yelloh! or Sandaya.

beach hols with beach and pool weather
Not everyone's definition of 'naice'
indeed, some people's idea of hell
So yes, you can get a 'naice' holiday at any time, depending on your parameters
