beach hols with beach and pool weather… you just can’t.

You could go to a nice AI resort in Turkey for that price in October, with a child free place

I understand the sentiment, but it's for a week. I know to rent my house for a week through AirB&B would cost way more than my holiday budget, but I don't need a 5 bed house or a king size bed or a washing machine on holiday. Surely holiday accommodation is always a bit worse than your own house?

Not size wise, like I don’t need a 4 bed house, but do I want it to be modern and clean with good food, hell yeah or I’m not going.

my barometer is 4 star minimum and ideally 4.5 min trip advisor to make my list.

this year I got a gorgeous hotel in Turkey with one free childplace, 5 star AI for 2k and private transfers

I wondered but wasn’t sure on the weather

No.

Scottishskifun · 06/11/2023 22:10

You can but only if you are prepared to take the risk of booking very last minute (like 2 days before)
We got a 5* AI in Greece doing it this way

SophieIsHereToday · 06/11/2023 22:10

JustMarriedBecca · 06/11/2023 22:07

We did Greece last year (August) and Island hopped and could have done for that price (we erm, splurged on a few nights).

I'd also not write off Eurocamp style holidays. But avoid Eurocamp which is less naice and find an independent 5* campsite with chalets. Very easily done. We spent a week in France last year in July and it was around £750 for ferries leaving plenty for accommmmodation. Site was full of middle class families from the Home Counties with kids called Hugo and Sebastian trying to be wholesome. You just need to pick the right site.

But all inclusive? Not a chance. Although you said NAICE which AI is not.

Which one did you go to? Can you share a link?

DenbyDog · 06/11/2023 22:11

We did all inclusive mid July for 8 people for 3.5k, 9 nights.

Wasn't the fanciest accommodation but had a pool and beach nearby. Enjoyed it.

nofussatall · 06/11/2023 22:11

What is NAICE? Am I being dim? 😂 are we all misspelling nice or am I totally unaware of a word

Thereisnoname · 06/11/2023 22:12

Agadir in Morrocco would come in around that price I would think for a decent hotel AI.
Book separately for flights and hotel.

Depends what you're after though. We don't go abroad every year, cos there are plenty of hotels I just wouldn't countenance at all (I prefer going a bit off the beaten track, less other Brits etc)

I'd rather spend 8-10k every few years and go for a better place, than 2k every year for somewhere that's just not quite what I'm after.

But other people want the sun every year and are happy to compromise on accommodation, whereas I'm happier in the Lakes or the Highlands every year with a dearer holiday abroad every few years.

It's a MN thing. Naice ham. Just means nice but Mrs Bucket style.

WalKat · 06/11/2023 22:13

Sorry I sent that by accident! No you're not being unreasonable it's depressing.
Now missing school is not an option (just started strict secondary school) it's just impossible. Even in a lodge/cottage in UK in summer holidays is pushing 2k for nothing special.
I'd absolutely love to just have a week in the sun by the pool, meals included so I don't have to cook or wash up... But that is never ever going to happen ever again.
Sad.
But....there are people in worse situations. Social media doesn't help. Every time I see someone holiday pics I think "how the hell did they afford that"???

Must channel my inner nice person.

"Imagine the happiness you would feel if you were on that holiday, and feel that happiness for the other person"...

Nah..who am I kidding, I'm absolutely fuming with jealousy

Titicacacandle · 06/11/2023 22:14

I did october half term all inclusive majorca in an apartment style hotel for 1.2k and didn't fly from Scotland. I saw the deal in May. Only 3 stars but decent enough and weather was nice. Love holidays I think I booked it through.

It's a throwback to when it was all green fields around here and posters would share shopping lists they'd found while out and about. One list specified "naice ham" as one of the items and an MN legend was born, not just any ham but naice ham. It was decided that 'naice' is pronounced in full Hyacinth Bouquet fashion for maximum naiceness.

The fields were green because they were fertilised with bullshit Grin

For somewhere decent ( 4star plus) in the summer you need at least £1k per person. If not 2. There are 6 of us and it’s usually at least 6k sometimes up to £8k. Some I’ve seen go to £18k / £22k WILD!

I booked this years summer holiday in January last year. Am looking now for something similar next year and prices are a lot higher! Really surprised at how much things have gone up.

£22k that better be Naice (capital N) literally more than some people earn a year

We've just booked a week in France for May £1250 ferry and premium cottage so could get cheaper if slightly lesser accommodation. Usually spend about £1k there but we like a drink so again could be less.

NannyGythaOgg · 06/11/2023 22:23

Weather in Turkey in October is usually brilliant. High 20s during the day and staying above 20 until at least 9pm. They looking for AirBNBs in Fethye (but look for Hisaronu/Ovacik places.

I had 11 nights in an AirBNB from end of Sept to 10 October for £22 per night. Albeit that was for only 2 people. Flights were around £300 each.

It's still high 20s during the day there now, but is getting cooler earlier

Yocal · 06/11/2023 22:26

It's a compromise, but you could go for 5 days and go somewhere you want to stay.
