Just watched the Graham Norton show on IPlayer. He refuses to budge up on the sofa - leaving two female guests squished together.

Is he being a dick or am I missing something?

YANBU his contempt for anyone and everyone that doesn't serve him a purpose and females in general but especially successful females is very thinly veiled.

A very nasty specimen.

Oh really? I had no idea. Well it shows in this episode. He just sits there. The sense I have is that he’s not happy being the end of the sofa guest (usually the least famous end - often a comedian) and he wants to make sure he’s in shot more. I didn’t want to share that because I don’t know much about him and didn’t want to assume, but seems like my assessment of his behaviour might be spot on! He did eventually budge up to a more respectful distance but only once he was in the spotlight and talking.

I am off work and bored. Does it show? 😂

Yes it was like a meeting of bastards... and poor Noel stuck in the thick of it. Watching DW and BG, I was struck by the fact that two people I really didn't like were making an embarrassment of themselves and each other on national TV.

That's what happens when you put two narcissists together, channel 4 knew what they were doing.

BottleShipDown · 06/11/2023 13:21

WTF? How is he allowed a platform on the BBC?

They let Tory MPs on…

feellikeanalien · 06/11/2023 13:50

I read an interview with him in the Sunday Times yesterday and he was really minimising what happened with the guy he chained to the wall fitting (not a radiator apparently as he didn't have radiators in his house).

Haven't seen GN but he certainly came across as not very nice in the interview.

I thought it was well known that he wasn’t a nice person. Never has anything nice to say to anyone and there’s also the fact that he was sent to jail for falsely imprisoning a male escort. He got 15 months and served 4. I’m surprised the public tolerate him at all.

Edited

Yes it does baffle me how some people in the public eye get a free pass to do as they please, whilst others get pulled up and cancelled for a badly worded tweet 15 years ago.

BTW, anyone seen Hew?

What’s it on? I might check it out. Like I said. I’m bored!!

He was always a nasty, lying, narcissistic, snivelling nobber before he even hit fame.
Just the type the beeb love.

That makes me angry. The article I just read about has him completely owning up and apologising. All about his own needs I guess. Better to minimise it now.

He’s a prick. He was a prick in the jungle, and he’s a criminal

In Im a Celebrity last hear someone challenged him about it - he was furious - and he referred to it as ‘my court case’. Did he forget he went to prison?

It was immensely satisfying re-watching the Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2006 last night and seeing David Walliams and Boy George going at each other while Noel Fielding and Russell Brand hid under a table.

They are all repulsive tbf I mean .Noel Fielding less so but he was rumoured to be dating a 16 year old girl around that time.

This comment made me laugh - Vicky Pryce is not exactly a hardened criminal is she?

Boy George is very unpleasant however.

She served time in Holloway for perverting the course of justice.
As soon as she was out she popped up on BBC radio a lot, obviously some people find getting a job after prison a lot easier than others

YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/11/2023 14:08

Vicky Pryce being bullied by her abusive then husband into accepting points for his speeding fine is hardly the same as kidnapping and torturing someone

ManateeFair · 06/11/2023 14:12

I genuinely don't understand how a man who did time for abusing a sex worker is still treated like a bloody national treasure.

ThreeRingCircus · 06/11/2023 14:12

God he's awful.

What he did to that poor man that he held captive is absolutely terrible. Then he went on I'm a Celebrity and was a nasty prick on there too.

It's not even thinly-veiled, he shows everyone that he's a dreadful little man all the time. As evidenced by this thread.

Wingedharpy · 06/11/2023 13:38

Graham Norton needs a better sofa IMHO.
The backrest is too low and runs out before the end.
The shuffling up one way at the beginning and the opposite way at the end, to make way for the singer(s) is messy.
They know how many guests they have coming on - just provide enough seating so that people can be comfortable and not hunched forward.

I know Graham's going for the "look who's popped into my living room" vibe, but the set up during lockdown - with each guest getting their own chair - was much nicer viewing imo.

Also, it's awkward when guests want to address the person next to them on the sofa. They have to do that weird neck turn.

Pineapplepots · 06/11/2023 14:20

@YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal - I agree, it’s offensive to lump her in with BG. Not all crimes are equally awful.

ManateeFair · 06/11/2023 14:20

He was charged and found guilty and served his time so it's fair enough that he's on tv

I don't think a man who had chained a woman to the wall, threatened her with violence and sexual assault and then beat her with a metal chain as she was trying to escape would be particularly welcome on most TV shows, though. There is a weird double standard when it comes to male victims of this kind of violence, especially male sex workers.

Lilacanemone · 06/11/2023 14:31

I thought he was pleasant enough and quite entertaining with his stories on I’m a Celebrity.

Desecratedcoconut · 06/11/2023 14:34

Given what he did to that male escort, I'm not sure his contempt lands solely on women.

SprinklesMcDoodles · 06/11/2023 18:24

From what I remember he also did his best to out George Michael in the 80’s and 90’s, long before he was ready to publicly come out as gay. He just seems like an absolute cretin.

Brainfogmcfogface · 06/11/2023 18:35

I’m watching now and no one looks squashed to me 🤷‍♀️

LuluBlakey1 · 06/11/2023 18:37

He's a really nasty piece of work. There are usually people who think he's wonderful and defend him to the hilt on Mnet but can't see any tonight.

id be interested to hear what you think about it at the start. It might just be my perception.
