What does "if not before" mean to you?

For example, if I said "I will send the report over on Wednesday, if not before"

YABU - I won't send it before Wednesday
YANBU - I might send it before Wednesday

For me, it's "if I don't send it before Wednesday then I'll send it on Wednesday" (YANBU) but I'm pretty sure my colleagues think it means that I'm suggesting they won't accept the report before Wednesday (therefore YABU). I just don't want to rush through the bloody report 😆

YANBU, it obviously means you'll send it on or before Wednesday.

You'll definitely receive it by Wednesday, but possibly before that.

It’s the same as when you say to someone “I’ll see you at the Christmas party, if not, before”

You will definitely see them at the Christmas party, but might see them before that

You will get it Wed at the latest. But I hate vagueness like that because it leads to miscommunication so often. Anywhere I've worked I would be expected to give the day they'll get it & stick to it, not stay statements like this. I actually had someone complain that sending him a report early was not on. Messed up his routine apparently.

Could also be said as "I'll send it to you by wednesday" or "You'll have it by Wednesday at the latest"

I know you really want it asap so I’m going to pretend there’s a chance I’ll get it to you before Wednesday. But then I’ll realise I can do it Wednesday and send it then at 16:59.

Don't bother asking me about this until Thursday because I have until end of play Weds to get it to you 😂

It may be on said day but will likely be sooner
