What does "if not before" mean to you?

For example, if I said "I will send the report over on Wednesday, if not before"

YABU - I won't send it before Wednesday
YANBU - I might send it before Wednesday

For me, it's "if I don't send it before Wednesday then I'll send it on Wednesday" (YANBU) but I'm pretty sure my colleagues think it means that I'm suggesting they won't accept the report before Wednesday (therefore YABU). I just don't want to rush through the bloody report 😆

Wednesday at the latest

whatthebejesus · 04/11/2023 17:34

I'll send it on Wednesday. Probably at 23:59. But if I get it done earlier I'll send it over 😉

Oh, another one! When is end of day/EOD/COP to you?

To me, it's 6pm but I work from home and don't have set working hours so if I'm running late I sometimes use midnight because if I send it around 6pm no one will look at it until the morning anyway

If you'd said "AND not before" that would mean don't expect it before Wednesday

theduchessofspork · 04/11/2023 17:39

I’ll send it on Wednesday at the latest.

When ever core office hours end

PeacockingAbout · 04/11/2023 17:41

Is there a chance that they missed the IF in the sentence and thought you said 'I'll send it to you Wednesday, not before'?

I don't think there's a way of reading the actual 'if not before' as anything other than.... if not before!

And - does it matter? Be honest with yourself, you're not going to send it before Wednesday anyway are you!

This one you have to clarify.

Most it means they want it ready for the morning, but you can get caught out.

EOD is when I log off, so 6-6:30pm

LoneFemaleTraveller · 04/11/2023 17:51

If it before means Wednesday latest.

EOD means end of the working day, so 5pm.

Ponderingwindow · 04/11/2023 18:05

It’s due/promised on Wednesday, but if it happens to be ready early I will send it over.

Ponderingwindow · 04/11/2023 18:06

EOD means that it will be available when the person comes in the next day because everyone’s day end’s at a different time.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2023 18:36

When is end of day/EOD/COP to you?

Any time of the given day... I wfh part time, erratic hours but the rest of the team is in California so my day is definitely done before the end of their normal working hours. But very occasionally I might be done before any of them are awake.Grin
