Is it on? How long do you have it on, and what temperature?

I've turned mine on to come on a timer for 2.5 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening at 18c. Maybe that's a lot but I'm home most of the day and I feel the cold, plus the morning heating keeps the house warm most of the day. Last year I had it on for only a few hours at 15c and it was miserable. I have a nice amount of credit in the energy account so I'll see how November goes.

I turn it up to 20 when I’m cold, otherwise it clicks on at 18 downstairs and 16 upstairs I think. It’s not often cold here ( there is a lot to be said for a well insulated , energy efficient new build!)

justanotherlaura · 03/11/2023 08:03

I keep our house at 19 when our one year old is home and 17 when he's at childcare. We're coping with the bills at the moment, I'll have to rethink if it gets crazy, we moved this summer so I don't know what the bills will be like this winter

pilates · 03/11/2023 08:03

We are relying on the log burner atm to heat the downstairs. I don’t like heat in the bedroom.

EmeraldSakara · 03/11/2023 08:03

Ours is on a thermostat, set to 16 degrees between 10pm-6am (overnight) and then 18.5 degrees during the day. It's on the Hive system so can be turned up or down from our phones.

Nickleback · 03/11/2023 08:11

Ours comes on at 6am and goes off at 10pm - we both like a 19/20 degrees heat, one works from home, I’m retired so both here pretty much most of the time.

Universalsnail · 03/11/2023 08:13

It's set to 15 degrees constantly which tbh is stressing me out as I can hear the boiler on a lot so I'm terrified of cost but the guinea pigs needs it to be a minimum of 15 to be healthy.

Devilsmommy · 03/11/2023 08:13

I put mine on at 21 in the morning for an hour and then at 10pm at 21 for 2 hours. My flat feels freezing and I've got a 13mo so I don't think it's too bad

Sprinkles211 · 03/11/2023 08:16

Ours is on to warm up to 20.5, overnight set at 18. We don't have a timer on it and if it needs to be on all day it is. Lucky that our little house is only 2 years old so energy efficient

Ineedwinenow · 03/11/2023 08:17

Our timer is set to 18 degrees so kicks in if it’s below that but we live in a very old, cold and draughty house so some evenings we turn it up 20 but most of the time we make do with blankets

cocksstrideintheevening · 03/11/2023 08:17

On at 6am-8am and 1700-2300, don't have a thermostat so just adjust it as needed. At the weekend if it's cold outside of those times it gets turned on.

DsTTy · 03/11/2023 08:18

We’re Hive too, it’s set to 20.5 in the day and 18.5 at night. The heatings clicking in for 2.5-3.5 hours a day.

HelloandGoodMorningPlease · 03/11/2023 08:21

We don’t have central heating, so no idea what the temperature is indoors. We light the log burner when it gets chilly and keep all the doors open downstairs. We live in a partly Victorian cottage so dehumidifiers are more valuable than heating. We run one at the top of the stairs and one off of the kitchen. No heating in the bedroom and window open most of the year. The dehumidifiers help our home feel warm and cosy and we have a couple of calor gas heaters and electric plug in radiators for really cold snaps.

dootball · 03/11/2023 08:23

No heating on yet for us , getting close now though.

GRex · 03/11/2023 08:24

Ours is consistently 20 degrees all day, we are well insulated so it doesn't seem to take much energy to keep it there. It goes down to 18 degrees overnight for sleeping and starts up again at 6.

We are home all day though, the heating only gets turned off if we will be out more than 6 hours.

Allcalm · 03/11/2023 08:27

Set to come on if it drops below 18 (it hasnt yet this year) at 6:30am for an hour then at 4pm-10pm. I work from home so it can get a bit chilly if its really cold Ill put it on manually but if I heated the house for just me during the day bills would double so I prefer to heat it for when the kids are getting up for school and when we're all here in the evening.

sanityisamyth · 03/11/2023 08:27

Not on. Didn't go on once last year. Middle floor flat with only electric heaters. No wood burner or other source of heat. Bought Oodies and have thick duvets.

ploob · 03/11/2023 08:28

None here yet, hasn't dropped below 19°. I think we benefit from next door heating their house like a sauna. (Or they're running a cannabis farm 😂)

Terfosaurus · 03/11/2023 08:29

Mines not on and probably won't be. We've got blankets, thermal leggings, fluffy socks.

Ginmonkeyagain · 03/11/2023 08:31

Currently on at 18 degrees for a couple of hours in the evening.

No need for it in the morning yet.

Never have it on at night even in the depths of winter.

Shoxfordian · 03/11/2023 08:32

Mine is on 21 from 6-10 and I turn it up if its cold, had it on 24 yesterday

FallingAutumnLeaf · 03/11/2023 08:32

Currently on timer for an hour before anyone gets up.
Then manually putting it on for an extra hour if people are cold - and at the moment that somewhere between 0 and 2 extra hours a day.

As it gets colder, I'll set it to come on timer for 2 hours early evening, and then add in a late morning hour too.

Thermostat on 18.

BitofaStramash · 03/11/2023 08:33

Ours is on most of the day from 730am until 10pm.

I live in Scotland so quite necessary.

Turned it on early September.

TerfTalking · 03/11/2023 08:35

Mine's on during the day at 17, I find that perfectly comfortable when I'm wearing jeans and a fleece. I'm happy being dressed like that indoors.

DH though likes to wear nothing and crank it up to 21, it is a constant battle, thank god he works away or we would be destitute or I would die from extreme heat.

Sparkleirisheyes · 03/11/2023 08:37

We have the Hive system, only having it on if it drops below 18. Always off at night, can’t understand heating the house when asleep in a thick duvet. We have a log burner we use in the evening. Invested in heated blankets a couple of years ago and they are fab.
Use a dehumidifier to dry laundry so house isn’t getting damp.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 03/11/2023 08:37

We've put one storage heater on the lowest setting. We're also using the dehumidifier. Once or twice I have used the portable heater in my home office for fifteen minutes or so. Occasionally has the heated towel rail on.

We haven't used the (electric) fire yet, or the heaters in the other rooms, it isn't cold yet.
