at the supermarket before the customer in front has finished loading their shopping?
Happened several times to me just recently. This morning, I had to ask the customer behind me to allow me more room on the conveyor belt as she hadn't left enough space for me to get my shopping on.

Pisses me off too @JobStresserxo I find it so rude and arrogant. And it seems to be the worst kind of people do it.

Alargeoneplease89 · 02/11/2023 17:01

Never had this happen to me but would annoy me. I love shop and scan especially if this is a new thing of entitled people😂

Djfjrjc2022 · 02/11/2023 17:01

I just got to the cashier finishing up the person before me and a had a lady (older) come up, push my shopping back and put her items in front of mine. I actually didn't say anything although I was seething as I was in such disbelief! The only thing I could think was maybe the lady behind who also had a full trolley had said to her to go in front and she took that to mean me too. Still annoyed I didn't say anything but I don't like confrontation!

I don’t shop in either Aldi or Lidl purely because of the check outs. Hate it 🤣.

I cant deal with them either. I’ve got a bad back so can’t put stuff in and out of my trolley at that kind of speed, nor do I want to be putting it in and out of the trolley an extra time because you aren’t allowed to pack at the check out.

I only use Aldi if I’m doing click and collect.

DyslexicPoster · 02/11/2023 17:05

orangegato · 02/11/2023 14:46

Always happens in Aldi as the checkouts are an Olympic sport.

Load from the back so they can’t get near.

I hate Lidl and Aldi checkouts. I always load from the back and I don't start loading if anyone else is unloading UNLESS they have a basket. But more often than not I just can't be arsed to do a big shop in there. There is even pressure to load the belt super fast while they have started scanning it super fast. So stressful all round. Pressure to pay within micro seconds too. Does anyone enjoy the Lidl / Aldi experience?

maddening · 02/11/2023 17:05

I go at the end of the conveyor with my trolley behind me - they would have to vault my trolley to get to the conveyor.

maddening · 02/11/2023 17:06

If I have a basket I put it on the metal end and load on to the belt from there so again they couldn't get to the belt - have never had this happen so it must work!

Laiste · 02/11/2023 17:07

@Britneyfan Flowers

You know, i'm increasingly finding the general rudeness and 'dog eat dog' ness of the way people act these days stressful enough to affect me for a while after i get home.

I didn't use to get like this. Don't know if it's me or if folk are getting more and more unpleasant to each other. It either makes me angry (which i keep all bunched up inside) or just sad😔

I was nearly at the last trolly in the bay the other day, about to reach for the handle when out of the corner of my eye i saw a (fairly elderly! A generation i usually associate with having more manners) bloke coming at speed to try to get it before me! I mean - fuck off! I got it just before him and he actually huffed at me !! 😳🤔

Fill from the back and let it roll down! Be relentless and don't give them any space!

This. Every time. Trolley in front of you and you stood at the end of the conveyer furthest away from cashier.

WhatICallMyUsername · 02/11/2023 17:08

When people do this to me in Aldi I just push their stuff back with the divider, last time a woman had to send her husband for a new loaf as it somehow ended up squashed 🤷🏻‍♀️

I do start loading if I have a lot of stuff but only if there's a big gap and I keep checking and moving the divider back if necessary

This reminds me...

I was fuming the other week when I placed five items that I had bought in B & M quite carefully on the conveyor belt, because there was something gooey and sticky on the belt. I put them in single file to avoid 'the goo.'

Bloody woman behind me shoved my stuff about - to make way for HERS, and pushed 2 items in this sticky gooey shite. I said 'don't move my stuff about! You've gone and shoved it in this crap on the conveyor belt now!' She just ignored me. Hmm Bloody arrogant entitled article!

So when they person in front of me had finished, I said to the cashier 'this woman behind me has just shoved 2 of my items into this crap on the belt, can I get them changed please?' The cashier was like Confused. I said 'they were OK when I got them and now they have that sticky crap all over them, can you get someone to change them please? I am not doing it myself and having HER served before me.' I was quite awkward and dramatic, but I felt it was justified.

The cashier called someone to help, and it took about two or three minutes before someone came. Then they took a further two or three minutes to get new items. The woman behind me was livid. She kept huffing and puffing, and sighing, and saying 'oh for God's sake!' There was only one checkout open at the time. I thought 'serves you right!' I was not in a rush. I had all day. If she had not poked about with my items and shoving them into shit on the conveyor belt, it would not have happened. #sorrynotsorry

Common curtsey has become extinct

Requiring someone to curtsey is a bit of an overkill in these circs, though, unless the person in the queue behind you is royalty, I suppose. Halloween Grin

Delatron · 02/11/2023 17:18

This has never happened to me - but I only shop in Waitrose 😬. I know that makes me a twat but I hate supermarkets and get very overwhelmed/twitchy so I pay more for a relaxing experience! Looks like I’d get in to a fight in Aldi…

livingonpurpose · 02/11/2023 17:23

Just load from the back of the conveyor belt. Leave your trolly there, then stand in front of the trolly and load the belt. Trolly blocks other people from reaching the belt to load anything of their's on. Then when you finish, pop the divider on and move your trolly down towards the cash register, so next person can start loading their stuff.

Justtakeyourhandsoffmyshopping · 02/11/2023 17:25

Well I had an odd interaction with someone riffling through my shopping and putting it on the conveyer belt. I didn't need help (young and fit) and I told her no thank you! People are rude and strange. I was unloading from the back and she was bumping my trolley obviously thought I was taking too long even though I was slinging the stuff on the belt. It makes me feel very antisocial, I might stop answering my door 😂

Fieldofbrokenpromises · 02/11/2023 17:25

Skodacool · 02/11/2023 15:03

The idea in Aldi and Lidl is that you put your stuff back into the trolley then move to the shelf at the end to bag your stuff.

But you can’t do that if you are still emptying the trolley onto the belt.

Itsjustagoogleaway · 02/11/2023 17:26

If I have a lot of stuff and someone starts putting stuff on the conveyor belt behind me I just ask them to wait until I’ve finished as I need a lot of room.
It’s never been a problem.
Aldi ( the ones near us anyway ) won’t start checking stuff through until you have put it on the conveyor belt and moved your trolley around to the till area. If there isn’t room on the conveyor because some ….. has put there’s on behind you there’s a stand off…🤣

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 02/11/2023 17:26

Just realised that I've done exactly this in B&M today. To be fair the women in from clearly had 4 or 5 items so had more than enough space.

I do it all the time if there is enough space. I don't think that it's an issue or that people feel that there space is being 'intruded' usually. Obviously if they have a full trolley and there isn't space then I won't, but I don't see the issue if I leave space.
I usually have a heavy basket so I want to offload the items asap.

I know exactly what you mean. I shop on line mostly because I don’t like being in crowds or having “dog eat dog” experiences.

I think if you’re like that and really hate sensory overloads life just becomes much more expensive!

pinkpanther84 · 02/11/2023 17:33

I had this recently in Aldi, it really pissed me off. I had a whole trolley to unload and after only a few items the man behind me (would say aged 50s/60s) starting loading his items too. I said to him I would need more space as I had a lot, he told me he disagreed and didn't think I needed that much space. Why this was up to him to decide I do not know! I eventually ran of our space and he had to move his stuff back, he then told me he didn't realise how much stuff I had, despite me telling him. Infuriated me. His wife was with him but kept silent the whole time. Since this, I have started loading from the far end and using my trolley as a barrier to anyone encroaching on my conveyer belt space

PonkyPonky · 02/11/2023 17:42

I do this BUT I overestimate how much room they’ll need and I ask them first if I’ve left enough room. If they had a large trolley full I wouldn’t even do that, I’d just wait

skyeisthelimit · 02/11/2023 17:42

I had this at Lidl the other day, she unloaded her stuff and my trolley was still half full. I asked her to remove them so I could put my stuff on and she went to another checkout.

Another time, when I saw somebody start to unload, I said "I'll pop the next customer sign on when Im done unloading". They got the hint.

YANBU, it is rude.

Yes I mainly do online but if I can’t get a spot I’ll brave Waitrose!

It’s bizarre but I just feel stressed out and completely overwhelmed in supermarkets. People get in my way, the bright lights. Gets expensive though..

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/11/2023 17:52

Thats where you need to go full on passive aggressive. Let them load up and not leave you enough space. Get to the till and say "I am sorry but that person didnt leave me enough space and start handing them each item out of the trolley, at your own speed. The fact that them trying to rush you has actually slowed them down is quite satisfying!
