Astounded by mullets?

I'm on holiday at a very British all inclusive abroad type holiday destination. It's all new to me, I've never had this type of holiday before. I'm astounded by the huge average BMI and lack of clothing of the majority of guests. The entitled poor manners is shameful. One man I was behind in the queue to the bar was aggressive with staff over their lack of understanding of his instruction of "no ice" but the issue was he was too drunk to understand there were 2 bar staff and he thought there was only one. I'm getting used to all of this poor behaviour but what has surprised me the most is the 3 generation family who all have matching mullet hair styles. That's male and female. I've never seen anything like it in real life in the 2000s. AIBU to find this all very unusual?

They're fashionable aren't they? The edgy vintage shops in Bath have rails of shiny 80s shell suits too OP if you're really eager to get the whole look together for your next all inclusive holiday.

TotalOverhaul · 02/11/2023 14:47

I love a youth with a mullet, they just make me smile especially if combined with a Shirley Temple perm.

@HopAPot - oh so you've met my son? Grin Though the Shirley Temple perm is entirely natural.

Greenpolkadot · 02/11/2023 15:18

I had to Google a picture of a mullett.
My step gs's have these. It's what i call a thug hair cut.

SeaPool · 02/11/2023 15:26

This thread has made me hum Achy Breaky Heart.

Think the mullet is really big in Australia at the moment..I have friends there and all the pics they post the guys and kids have mullets. Not sure about anywhere else.

Everythinghasgonetoshit · 02/11/2023 09:56

What sort of mullets were they? Pat Sharpe? Nimahl? David Hasselhoff?

Do we have to wear a florescent shell suit to complete the look?

This! Are they feathered at the sides? (The horror, the horror!). I think I’d quite enjoy an all inclusive where everyone was fat and drunk. Not saying I’d fit right in, mind . . .

AIstolemylunch · 02/11/2023 15:38

Massive in London too. Please be informed that its 'the modern mullet' so a much better cut than the original mullet and not quite such a drastic rectangle shape. Its actually a really good haircut for a teenage boy with curly hair as it keeps a mop under control a bit. Doesn't look quite a s good on dead straight hair imho. On that note, why has that changed? When I was a teenager the odd person had curly hair, now virtually all the teenage boys I see have curly hair, what is that about? Theyre not all getting perms surely?

I actually prefer the modern mullet to the only other apparent alternative of a the skin fade - looks a bit more footballer to me and need redone very other bloody week.

Once they made me belief that sliders and socks were a thing on holiday a few years back, nothing surprised me after that.

AllWeWantToDo · 02/11/2023 15:39

One of my sons has one, it doesn't look like the mullets I remember though

Iwantmyoldnameback · 02/11/2023 15:39

Oh Op you should go to a Five star AI in the Caribbean. The British are definitely not the fattest or the rudest there. Quite the contrary in fact.

TheMarzipanDildo · 02/11/2023 15:42

You sound like that grumpy woman off of Benidorm. Why did you think a very British all inclusive was for you!?

Anyway, mullets are definitely back and quite posh now.

itsmylife7 · 02/11/2023 15:54

What's a mullet ?
I'm off to Google.

SeaPool · 02/11/2023 15:55

@itsmylife7 It's a fish.

SeaPool · 02/11/2023 15:55

@itsmylife7 It's a fish.

Yes but I assumed people weren't talking about fish hair 😁

So it's shaved at the sides and lots of hair on top.

Okay Hyacinth.

Lmao at that. I've just been very poorly and hiding at home. Bingewatched all of Keeping Up Appearances😂

I'd rather be a scouser than have your level of mental acuity!

Was it very painful- that sense of humour bypass surgery?
Im Irish and regularly have a giggle at paddy and mick jokes, still not all of us can laugh at ourselves I guess. Seriously, unclench.

Gare ti tell you but there's a professional footballer with curtains and that sort of undercut that went with it.

You must be a bit posh if you didn't just use the lemon out your drink in your hair v

Oh come on, the whole family with the same haircut is in?

Is it really snobbery to be disgusted at the rudeness? I think now

It's not just the mullets though, is it?

I'm astounded by the huge average BMI and lack of clothing of the majority of guests.
OP is spending her holiday astounded by how terribly common the other guests are.

Allmarbleslost · 02/11/2023 17:11

What a nasty thread

Holidayhell22 · 02/11/2023 17:31

Lack of clothing?
Was that by the pool?
Or do you meaning in the restaurant?
I’m all for covering up in a restaurant, can’t stand to see acres of bare skin with sweat dripping off it if I’m trying to eat. By the pool though, crack on.

RommyRommyRommm · 02/11/2023 17:33

Ah the old scruff bag look. I’m with you OP, dreadful do!

RudolphTheRedNosedSpaniel · 02/11/2023 17:39

Moredarkchocolateplease · 02/11/2023 09:18

Mullets aren't a class thing.

They've had to crack down on them at my DC private school so many boys were coming in with mullets, they are now banned.

Why do they need to "crack down on mullets?!"

ToesInTheWater · 02/11/2023 17:40

A good mullet on the right man is hot! 😍

Most decent hotels have a dress code for the restaurant anyway so she must mean in the pool areas.
