I invited her dd round (with another girl) after school today about 2 weeks ago. DD has been to her house. I see her mother daily.

DD wanted to have a tea party. I have bought pizza, made chocolate cake etc.

Now she can have none of it

argh
ffs
I have no time to get to shops and get alternative she will just have to have beans on toast

Why didn't she tell me before

You'd think this would be top of her list when her DD gets invited round to tea.

Do you think she assumed you already knew and it was just a reminder call?

Infuriating

Jackstini · 10/03/2008 11:33

YANBU - I would have expected her to say before now!
Hate to put another spanner in the works CD but check your bread - some loaves have dairy in.....

CountessDracula · 10/03/2008 11:33

Nope she knew I didn't know

I was making blinking chocolate cake at 9pm yesterday

CountessDracula · 10/03/2008 11:33

YANBU

And I hate to break this to you, but check the bread for skimmed milk powder. It's in farking everything.

Enjoy your light supper of pizza and chocolate cake.

CountessDracula · 10/03/2008 11:33

now I will have to make a bloody detour on way home and rush like a maniac

I am tempted to call her mother and tell her to send a packed tea!

nailpolish · 10/03/2008 11:34

oh yeah!

er, scrape it off?

im sure she will fe fine with beans on toast

(i bet she isnt really allergic, do an experiment)

mumblechum · 10/03/2008 11:35

My ds's mate is like this. You could do bangers and mash & veg, but remember not to put normal milk & butter in the mash.

goingfor3 · 10/03/2008 11:36

It is annoying for you but as her mother deals with it on a day to day basis it probably didn't cross her mind to tell you until now. I always ask about food allegies or food children won't eat as soon as I invite someone round.

nailpolish · 10/03/2008 11:36

you could make some soup - do yo uhave veg and some stock?

CountessDracula · 10/03/2008 11:37

ok we have

cherry tomatoes [tick]
cucumber [tick]
Pizza [cross]
chocolate cake [cross]
custard creams [cross]

I will have to see if I can find a non cheesy pizza or something or make her some bruschetta maybe

Can you buy biscuits with no dairy in them
I am worried she will feel all left out

If she had told me I could have easily done non dairy for all of them

No I don't have the stuff
Plus have bought/made all this for the tea party which dd is very excited about. I will have to try and persuade her to have tomato pasta instead

WanderingTrolley · 10/03/2008 11:41

Most supermarkets do a range of free from this that or the other biscuits. Many are free from taste, ime.

Get them to make fairy cakes with margarine for themselves.

pasta
tomato sauce
nice ham

CountessDracula · 10/03/2008 11:42

NO i have already made the cake ready for them to ice
I'm not making anothe rone!

"(i bet she isnt really allergic, do an experiment)" How utterly stupid!

What a PITA, CD. You can buy dairy free biscuits from most supermarkets. Pur spreads are dairy free I think (and you can make chocolate cake using cocoa and dairy free spread. Not that you'd want to do this now.) There are other things you need to look for on labels too, casein being one of the less obvious ones.

can you find out how serious the allergy/intolerance is?
I mean there is a huge variation.
and you really need to know....

SoupDragon · 10/03/2008 11:46

Oh, and if you've bought ready made icing, it can have sdding milk protein in it. I made a airy free birthday cake one year and then used a tube of white icing, I was pssed off when I notices, I can tell you! Allergic child got a bit with no white icing on though which her mum said was fine.
