I invited her dd round (with another girl) after school today about 2 weeks ago. DD has been to her house. I see her mother daily.

DD wanted to have a tea party. I have bought pizza, made chocolate cake etc.

Now she can have none of it

argh
ffs
I have no time to get to shops and get alternative she will just have to have beans on toast

Why didn't she tell me before

wedges and beans

my dd would love that

Hulababy · 10/03/2008 12:28

Be careful with the cake - teh child probably can't even join in icing it. Friend's Ds with diay allergy can't AFAIK - DD touched his face after eating cheese once (by accident and she was still very little and didn't understand) and he reacted even to that.

MamaG · 10/03/2008 12:29

lol at this thread

wedges & beans sounds great

NorthernLurker · 10/03/2008 12:29

Don't bin the cake - take it to work with you tomorrow - your office will think you a saint!

miku · 10/03/2008 12:31

huge gert LOL!

Hulababy · 10/03/2008 12:32

And no - don't bin the cake. Eat it yourself!

CountessDracula · 10/03/2008 12:33

Take the (leftover) cake to work

give wedges & beans

(maybe cheese too, for the other kids?)

Let them make their own fruit salads instread of icing the cake - separate bowls of grapes/chopped fruit etc

MamaG · 10/03/2008 12:35

has anybody suggested :-

(a) sausages

(b) eating the cake yourself?

omg!stop it!its too funny!!!

Smithagain · 10/03/2008 12:39

I would phone the mum back, say you've looked at the things you have ALREADY MADE and realised there is dairy in all of it. Can she suggest anything? Exactly how serious is the allergy? Can she have things that have small quantities of dairy or is it a complete no-no? Can she help you get hold of suitable food, as you are not in a position to do so ......?!

(Although you should clearly not take risks with this, I imagine it is not life-threatening, or she would not have forgotten to tell you. Speaking as the wife of someone with a severe nut allergy, we don't go ANYWHERE without mentioning it well in advance).

If you find a way round it, stick the chocolate cake and pizza in the freezer, so you can produce it as a special treat later on, with no effort whatsoever.

This should go in MN classics, it really should, its making my lol

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/03/2008 12:47

Tee hee at this thread.

Hob Nob biscuits are dairy free CD if you want some easy to find ones. And rather surprisingly, so are bourbons.

WanderingTrolley · 10/03/2008 12:48

Can you smear the child in the chocolate cake just before her mum shows up and say OH silly me, is there dairy in chocolate, IF ONLY I'D HAD TIME TO PROVIDE AN ALTERNATIVE.

Do this before you stab her in the head.

CountessDracula · 10/03/2008 12:49

i could bake the cake again until very very hard
then stab her with it
parmesan stylee
