Reading romance whilst babysitting

I’m babysitting for my sister whilst she’s out for dinner. My niece and nephew were in bed and asleep before she left.

I was planning on reading my kindle for the evening… except that my sister has told me that I’m “not allowed to read smutty books in her house while looking after her children”!

I’ve tried explain that it’s a romance novel with some spicy scenes but she’s not having any of it. I get the impression this is a moral objection but I don’t really see what the problem is - it’s not like I’m suggesting this as a bedtime story for the children - they’re already asleep. If they wake up I will go to them, but I don’t see why I shouldn’t read on my kindle when they’re sleeping - or what business of my sisters it is what I read…

Am I being unreasonable? (Or immoral?!)

That’s just ridiculous, she should be pleased you’ve offered to baby sit. As you say it’s not like you’ll be reading it to them as a bed time story!

Eh? That's fecking bonkers. However for the sake of peace I'd nod along and tell her you were reading Dickens or some sort of improving nonsense. The best thing about a Kindle is no-one can see your reading choices - don't they say the reason 50 Shades of Grey was such a global hit was because it coincided with the launch of e-readers?
