Toddler Halloween outfit not scary enough?

OK so my title is ridiculous, as I've just realised reading it back to myself 😂 And also, first world problems, and all that...

However ... I've ordered a Halloween outfit for my 2.5 year old DD for a nursery party (and to take her trick or treating on the evening), but now I'm thinking it's more "cute" than "scary" and I'm not really getting Halloween vibes? Thinking I should have ordered her a devil or witch outfit instead, or something?

Or does this pass as a Halloween outfit? I can't enable voting as I'm on the app, but can people just say whether they think this outfit qualifies as "Halloween" enough for a toddler? Thank you!

Only preschool Halloween party mine went to they were Little Dead Riding Hood and The GingerDead Man respectively. DD was in a long white cape and zombie make-up with a picnic basket containing the wolf's head and DS was a gingerbread man with a knife in his back and "Run run as fast as you can" on his t-shirt.

None of the preschoolers appreciated my ingenuity.

I doubt the parents and staff did either, highly inappropriate.

Why would you want to dress you young child as a devil that is really disturbing.

I'd see your point if I was dressing her in this way every day, and engaging her in weird satanic rituals. However, this is Halloween. It's own day a year. It's fine and not remotely disturbing.

It’s a nice outfit. I remember my daughter dressing up as a yellow duckling for Hallow’een.

😂 bless her

I've got my daughter an all in one skeleton thing but it does have a bit of pink glitter on it so not all scary 🤣. Plus she's a bloody short arse like me so has no ankle or wrist bones in the outfit but who needs them? 🙄🤣 she does look more cute than scary though haha x

I have this outfit for my 2 year old! I think toddlers should look more cute than scary

belgiumchocolates · 27/10/2023 19:59

It's adorable, perfect Halloween outfit for a 2 year old

Girasoli · 27/10/2023 20:02

That's very cute and halloweeny...and age appropriate. I much prefer when toddlers are dressed as pumpkins/cats/in those sparkly witches dresses then when they are wearing something too scary.

My 3 year old is wearing a skeleton onesie this year but not a 'realistic' looking one. More like one of the funny bones characters.

Milarky · 27/10/2023 20:08

When mknr were wee they dressed as matching pumpkins. So damn sweet and def not scary!

When I was wee I went guising dressed as a Shepard and sang Jesus loves me!!! In Scotland you used to have to do something to earn your sweeties/cash! Jokes, song a bit of magic.

Back in the day!!

UrsulaBelle · 27/10/2023 20:10

Mine went as a Cybermen, Dalek and Doctor Who one year.

TheCrowFromBelow · 27/10/2023 20:13

My DS is nearly 19 has an Halloween do and is dressing up as Napoleon Dynamite. not terribly gory!

your DD will look fab, hope you both enjoy it.

I’m really rethinking my toddler’s Chucky costume reading some of these responses

I was joking to illustrate the point.

Preschoolers dress up as cute witches, fairies and cats. They don't dress up in scary outfits.

(Our preschool was CofE and didn't do Hallowe'en)

leccybill · 27/10/2023 20:16

Ah, my DD went as a cute cat when she was 2, I painted whiskers on her cheeks with liquid eyeliner!
My finest year was when we 'distressed' an old school uniform with scissors!

nutsnutspistachionuts · 27/10/2023 20:18

2.5 year olds are quite scary anyway tbh

PuttingDownRoots · 27/10/2023 20:25

I have a photo of when my two were 2 yo and 6 mo dressed as a panda and a puppy for trick or treating (group of friends, obviously the baby wasn't actually trick or treating). I was worried they would be cold so put them in fluffy onesie instead of Halloween costumes!

I bet there were will be plenty of princesses and superheros at the the party

It’s cute and cats are fairly halloweeny. One of my dd’s was a cat last year, this year she is going to be Hermione. The other was a ladybird last year. Lots of kids who come trick or treating are in generic fancy dress rather than anything specific to Halloween.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2023 22:06

You're completely overthinking this.

The vast majority of kids where I am don't go in for scary at all. I expect to see ladybirds, ninjas, Disney princesses, Marvel heroes, etc this year, just as I did last year. One of my DDs insisted on going as a traffic light one year, and another year one was a mime.

I love this idea - going to paint whiskers on her! If she'll stay still long enough that is 😬

Thanks all, I accept I'm overthinking here (as usual!). Cute Halloween 🎃 cat 🐈‍⬛ it is!

Dressing up was originally intended as disguise so that the spooky whatevers didn't know who was who.

It confused them and they didn't know who to do their spooky stuff to...

Scary was never a costume requirement back in my day (Scotland)

whatsinanameeh · 27/10/2023 22:23

Halloween doesn't need to be about horror and scary, I don't know when that happened but I really dislike it! Your chosen outfit is great, spooky, otherworldly and proper Halloween vibes to scare off the spirits and protect yourself this Samhain

Why would you want to dress you young child as a devil that is really disturbing.

Had the tiniest tot I'd ever seen standing at my door a few Halloweens ago dressed as a little red devil. All glittery red and holding a tiny pitchfork (and escorted to the door by two very proud siblings).

She looked adorable.

mondaytosunday · 27/10/2023 22:39

Um she's just two! Cute enough! When she's older she can be a witch/devil/zombie!
Most kids last year seemed to dress as their favourite superhero.
