Toddler Halloween outfit not scary enough?

halloweenoutfit · 27/10/2023 18:57

OK so my title is ridiculous, as I've just realised reading it back to myself 😂 And also, first world problems, and all that...

However ... I've ordered a Halloween outfit for my 2.5 year old DD for a nursery party (and to take her trick or treating on the evening), but now I'm thinking it's more "cute" than "scary" and I'm not really getting Halloween vibes? Thinking I should have ordered her a devil or witch outfit instead, or something?

Or does this pass as a Halloween outfit? I can't enable voting as I'm on the app, but can people just say whether they think this outfit qualifies as "Halloween" enough for a toddler? Thank you!

Deff halloween enough. Tbh it woild be a bit weird to want your toddler actually scary!

OwlBasket · 27/10/2023 18:58

It’s fine

TimeForTeaAndG · 27/10/2023 18:59

Very similar to what DD wore as a toddler. Halloween costumes don't have to be scary.

CheshireDing · 27/10/2023 18:59

Well not to me as it’s a glittery cat but she’s 2.5 so can’t really go out covered in blood with a dagger 🎃

Also my costume is an inflatable unicorn soooo 🤷‍♀️🤣

Fridaysgirl17 · 27/10/2023 19:00

My 4 year old will be a race car driver, very unscary lol & 6 year old a ninja, both picked by said 6 year old

cakepip · 27/10/2023 19:00

Had they sold out of M3gan outfits in 2-3?

modgepodge · 27/10/2023 19:01

My daughter has a black top with witches and ghosts and a grey matching tutu with bats etc on it. I don’t like waste/single use stuff so I bought actual clothes which can be worn throughout October rather than a specific costume (though I did get a witches hat in a charity shop too). She wore it last year too. No one refused her sweets while trick or treating for not being scary 😀 I think your costume is fine!!

halloweenoutfit · 27/10/2023 19:04

Thanks all! I mean it's very cute but I just thought is this actually a Halloween outfit or just a generic cat fancy dress one 😂

Some of the other ones I looked at (but were more expensive) are these ones I've attached, which to me are definitely Halloween-y (if that makes sense).

You're joking, of course.

NuffSaidSam · 27/10/2023 19:06

It's not super-halloweeny, but I very much doubt any of the other toddlers at nursery are going to comment!

YABU for missing the opportunity to dress her as a pumpkin though.

I think I meant more traditional Halloween themes, so like witch / devil etc. A cat just feels a bit .... well, meh, and not specific to Halloween? I don't think I'm explaining very well 😂

Ah she was a pumpkin last year when she was a little bit younger! It was adorable.

Witches have cat familiars.

Don't overthink it.

WonderingWanda · 27/10/2023 19:09

It's perfect. I think toddlers should look a bit cute, they are far too sweet and innocent to be dressed as zombies

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 27/10/2023 19:12

When DS was 3 he dressed as Captain Barnacle. He’s 12 now and wants to dress as a corpse. Enjoy the cute years while they last.

Traceyislivid · 27/10/2023 19:18

You’ll be lucky if you get it anywhere near her 😂 you know what toddlers are like. Fickle.

FluffyDiplodocus · 27/10/2023 19:20

My 6yo had that last year, she likes cats! Halloween costumes can just be fun ones too!

Devilsmommy · 27/10/2023 19:20

I think black cats are super Halloween

CruCru · 27/10/2023 19:22

It’s a nice outfit. I remember my daughter dressing up as a yellow duckling for Hallow’een.

haha this is very true! She may just scream "no cat!!" at me and that's decision made, isn't it 🙈😂

Only preschool Halloween party mine went to they were Little Dead Riding Hood and The GingerDead Man respectively. DD was in a long white cape and zombie make-up with a picnic basket containing the wolf's head and DS was a gingerbread man with a knife in his back and "Run run as fast as you can" on his t-shirt.

None of the preschoolers appreciated my ingenuity.

IncomingTraffic · 27/10/2023 19:34

you are seriously overthinking this. She’s 2. Her outfit doesn’t need to be scary. She probably won’t like it if it’s scary.

DragonFly98 · 27/10/2023 19:42

Why would you want to dress you young child as a devil that is really disturbing.

EasternStandard · 27/10/2023 19:43

Don’t go ott scary for a toddler

It’s fine
