My friend has his own shop where everything is hand made , he makes his own products and stocks hand made products for others as a collective,

He's just text me in a panic , a little old lady came in and bought these .....

He's now worrying in case it's the grandsons xmas present

I think xmas day could be interesting in one house in the north of England 😂🙈

To think my friend is going to hell

I think the pic is of a generic planet. Saturn would supposedly be correctly depicted in beige/yellow. Uranus should be on its side but not a lot of people would know that (I didn't- thanks @DuckonaBike . ) It's the right sort of colour though.

Thanks OP this website is great! I'm from Yorkshire but not seen the shop before. Amazing.

He's so proud of it ! He makes the bath bombs / products with his wife who used to work for lush .

I'm love how they run it . Took years for them to get to this and I'm so proud of him ! He's my absolute best friend and he deserves the success . He makes me laugh every single day. No matter how down I am he makes my day . And it's a fab shop!

The other day he was painting the basement and had forgotten his painting clothes so was in his undies . He said he'd cut his nipples . I said that sounds painful and slightly kinky .

We've always joked about having an act at the Edinburgh fringe so he said that's the name of our band !

Said he's only join if he could be "slightly kinky " and wear arsless chaps so I said I'd be painful . 😂.

My life wouldn't be the same without him in it to be honest and he makes me laugh every day . Todays tale of the little old lady buying ur - anus socks is nothing unusual !

Hopefully they are for her grandchild. My kids have always sniggered at Uranus! I bet she knew, nannas can be funny too 😆

DuckonaBike · 27/10/2023 20:51

I know this isn’t really the point, but isn’t that Saturn?

Fucking hell...we are all that little old lady Grin

BalloonSalesperson · 28/10/2023 00:54

He may well have been mistaken and she might be into anal, pegging and rimming with her significant other for whom they are intended

No. She doesn't need to be into all that stuff that you describe, to recognise a decades old joke. I mean, think of kids in the 60s who joked about "Uranus" Oh yes, they did. And decades before that, that I am not privy to.

Any elderly lady will know the joke. And particularly one who goes out and about by herself, shopping and whatnot. The worst thing about getting a bit older is people thinking you are stupid. I've done stuff that would make your hair curl. Sometimes I even shock myself. Quit with the assumption that older people are innocent idiots.

BitofaStramash · 28/10/2023 00:55

"Little old lady" 😔😔😔

Yes they don't exist . I was mistaken.

*Is there an "ist" for people lacking any sense of humour ?

Or am I being humour ist*

Older people usually have a more sensitive organ of humour than youngsters.
We've had time to hone it. I probably started out, 50 years ago, with the sniggery Uranus joke. I hear it again from time to time. But it's as old as the hills now.
If I'd seen those socks in a shop I'd have thought I was back in the 60s.

BalloonSalesperson · 28/10/2023 01:14

Trouble is, ageist comments aren't funny. Pointing that out doesn't make someone a 'bore'

Totally agree. I have a few years under my belt and it pisses me off that youngsters think I'm a bit dim because I'm elderly.

The Uranus thing I laughed at when I was around 5 or 6 years old.
It's sort of worn off now.

The saddest thing is that you are still trying to defend your unfunny ageist anecdote at nearly 3am.

LaMarschallin · 28/10/2023 07:21

Ah, well...
OP said she was going out to drown her sorrows.
Sounds like (to quote Bridget Jones) her sorrows are coming up for the third time.

Amberjane41 · 28/10/2023 08:06

Why because everyone didn’t ‘laugh’ at your story! Chill out. Not everyone finds the same things funny. Sorry I agree, calling someone a little old lady and implying their an idiot isn’t funny. Like these memes of ‘old ladies’ enjoying watching rock bands you see and people commenting ‘this will be me when I’m old’ Why can’t women enjoy going to a rock concert without being photographed and having people go ‘awwww’ at them. If they are going to see Iron Maiden or someone like that they are probably younger than the band is!!!

Unfortunately I agree. There's a vocal minority that instead of just scrolling on by feel compelled to just stick the boot in over and over again.

I think a few of the moaning posters on here are projecting their own insecurities about ageing. It's clear you were just sharing an anecdote and didn't mean any harm but unfortunately some people will take offence to anything.

FWIW, my gran definitely wouldn't have got the joke. There's a poster on here that didn't get the "Lady Gardener" reference upthread so I don't believe for a second that OF COURSE the lady knew exactly what she was buying.

FarmGirl78 · 28/10/2023 08:29

capabilityfrowns · 27/10/2023 16:43

she was an archetypal little old lady , why the snottiness? I talking about a woman in her 80 s not a woman in her 50s ! A stereotypical "granny. "You know like that bloke puts a wig on and pretends to be in mrs browns boys when it's apparently funny

She might be into rimming yes. In fact I'm sure that must be why she bought them .

My mistake .

Oh get of your high horse. People of all ages can find something funny without being 'into' it.

80 year olds are still allowed to have sense of humours.

adjacenttoquiteafewspheres · 27/10/2023 19:24

Why's he texting in a panic and having a cold sweat, I don't get it?

I wondered that. I suppose he waited till the payment went through then panicked

😏

Yep. I think OP needs to learn when to stop digging.

Moonwatcher1234 · 28/10/2023 08:35

I think you and your friend think you’re a lot funnier than you really are. But as long as you’re happy, it’s fine. Why get so het up by these posts.

Canyousewcushions · 28/10/2023 08:44

My nan would so very have picked up something like this (intentionally!!).

One if her proud possessions was a singing gyrating santa christmas decoration, only it had a very unfortunate and obvious bulge at the front, just below the waist. She got great pleasure showing it off to her teenage grandchildren and it wasn't until I grew up that I twigged she absolutely knew and was no doubt loving our mortified responses 🤣 she really just seem like an innocent little old lady though if you didn't know her!!

She was the queen of ridiculous presents 🤣

Dontcallmescarface · 28/10/2023 09:07

My (then), 76 year old mum bought something similar for my (then)81 year old dad for his birthday. They both found it hilarious as did we.

Haffiana · 28/10/2023 11:20

This thread should go into Classics for classic, passive-aggressive hole digging.

Big lighthearted klaxon at the beginning of the thread needed 😁
Yeah, at one time this thread would have been treated as a little laugh /lighthearted, not sure why you've attracted so much lip pursing and moaning; maybe some are projecting their own ageing issues?

OneSecond · 28/10/2023 11:37

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 27/10/2023 20:23

Um am I the only one person to reply who can conceive of a 90 year old woman not noticing that it says ur-anus rather than Uranus?

There's not really any need to separate it to 'ur-anus' - the joke is obvious to everybody without that.

It's not even like it's one of the more popular planets that attracts the fans, such as your Marses, your Venuses or your Saturns; the only single thing it has going for it, that anybody cares about, is that it has a funny rude name.

Now you are just being mean to Uranus Sad
