Actually I don't think I am but can we stop all the Cod challenge threads now. No one can tell who is for real and who isn't and it is such a waste of time replying to threads that aren't real

Thank you.

Agree heartily with the OP and especially with artichokes' point that it can look like laughing in the faces of posters who aren't in on the joke and write helpful advice on a wind-up thread

lottiejenkins · 09/03/2008 17:14

Pardon my ignorance but what is a cod challenge thread??

QuintessentialShadow · 09/03/2008 17:16

I think it is ridiculous, and agree it ruins the ethos of mumsnet.

I don't see any difference between a 'challenge' and trolling. The intention is to deceive and bait with a namechange. Pathetic.

marina · 09/03/2008 17:18

Oh lottie, you have do as many of the following as possible:
to name-change, infiltrate any threads on cod's resent list, get yourself 200 plus posts on a thread you start, start a thread on something that many of us will know is a Mumsnet Retread and see how many pathetic newer people don't realise this and post advice in good faith, and start a style thread - if you want your self-confidence shredded online that is - to get advice on how you should be doing it.
Lovely eh
Let discord and suspicion reign

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 09/03/2008 17:20

Thank you for those words of wisdom KerryMum.

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 09/03/2008 17:20

I have to confess I've steered clear of any threads this week that aren't about chickens or Johnny Depp, because I can't be bothered to get emotionally involved in threads that may or may not be genuine. Sorry!

lottiejenkins · 09/03/2008 17:20

I have 393 posts on a thread i started in special needs section does that mean anything??

AnnikaRice · 09/03/2008 17:21

I didn't mean nuffin by it! Only started a thread on baby pasta and swearing and got yawned at by 3 people.

marina · 09/03/2008 17:22

If you mean the brilliantly informative one on Julia Hollander, I am sure not Lottie have just caught up with it via Fio's link

blueshoes · 09/03/2008 17:22

Can someone link to the original thread where the challenge was thrown down?

luminarphrases · 09/03/2008 17:23

i think it's quite a sad idea that a newbie might post on here about a topic that 'regulars' will know has been done to death, get jumped on, leave and end up on another site with tickers and hugs and faff like that

scottishmummy · 09/03/2008 17:23

cod challenge what's that then?talking philosophy with a fish?have not followed any of this fish malarkey.

QuintessentialShadow · 09/03/2008 17:23

Thats the thing, some people actually give advice and offer support. It is a kick in their mouths to realize they have spent time and effort on somebody only out to take a piss of them. Totally in Cods style, pisstaking I mean.

A cod challenge thread is simply inviting everybody to take on the cod attitude to posters, which at the best of times can be rather unsympathetic. (Much as I love cod, of course, I think this is ill adviced)

Thanks for that opinion Kerrymum.

blueshoes · 09/03/2008 17:25

I have often thought of cod as essentially harmless. This crosses the line.

lackaDAISYcal · 09/03/2008 17:25

Is that why things are a bit quiet? Is everyone frightened of being suckered in? Is that why I have hardly any responses to my recent threads?
Can I trust any of the responses to aforementioned recent threads?

YANBU.

Newbies get jumped on here for talking about well worn topics and always have done, with no encouragement from cod. This was just a bit of silliness - non serious topics, pretty obvious where i've seen - not being nasty. As a newbie I had a totally rude welcome to mn on an innocuous thread i started - i've not seen anything like that here.

Don't disagree with nab, it's got boring now, but no need to turn it into something it isn't.

QuintessentialShadow · 09/03/2008 17:28

WTF is your problem Kerrymum?

I find you highly offencive now, your comment came just after my post, what you say is hypocritical, I shall not state an opinion but you can?

OracleInaCoracle · 09/03/2008 17:28

agree, for the most part its laughing at rather than with other posters.

although shineys fame one was good.

blueshoes · 09/03/2008 17:29

kerry/annika, so when does it stop?

marina · 09/03/2008 17:29

Lissie, agreed, that one was hilarious, Shiny is a genius
