Most unusual Christmas present request?

Igglepiggleandhisboat · 24/10/2023 17:51

(I’ve already typed this but for some reason it wouldn’t upload so apologies if this appears twice. I’m trying to cheer myself up whilst waiting for some results)

what’s the most unusual Christmas present your DC have asked for?
my DD asked for a purple dinosaur that goes in the bath when she was two but no dinosaur we casually showed her was the one she was talking about. Eventually found one in the pound shop which was the one she had meant apparently!
this year she has asked for a typewriter?!

My son aged 10 asked for an electric toothbrush!

This year aged 14 he’s asked for a set of whittling knives!

@BeyondMyWits don't want to show off but growing up in Bangladesh, I have had several pet monkeys. they are great company. shame you need a permit to keep one here (I assume?)

My son loves the sound of Caribbean steel
pans and wanted a full set for Christmas a few years back.
if they weren’t so big and expensive I probably would’ve

Would a steel tongue drum work?

When my kids were little, I sent my son and his friends into a pound shop to buy some toys for party bags. There were 10 children coming to the party and I gave them a £10 note. They bought 10 sink plungers. They absolutely loved that birthday.

When I was about 11 I asked for like supermarket sweep, but in the body shop
My mum gave me 5 minutes in there. I think she expected me to browse, select a few treasures etc
Absolutely not. It was like a smash and grab BlushGrin

My dds only item on the list when she was about five was a money box dispenser that paid out mini chocolate bars. I found one! She is still a pain in the neck to buy presents for even though she is all grown up, funnily enough she rarely if ever eats chocolate these days ( weird).

I always wanted one if these, never got one!(mine was 2p quite a while a go!)

4 year DD wanted a feather mattress topper. She got it and still uses it every night!

Reminds me of the princess and the pea. So cute!

A conveyer belt like they have in the airport & an art thing that projected your pictures.
I searched EVERYWHERE for the art thing, after much questioning of Dd about what it was & where to get it she told us she knew it as real, she had seen it in her head!!

An OHP would project your pictures. An old fashioned one with the base.

@DameEdna1 could it be something like this? The website has loads of fidget toys that might suit.

One of my (now adult) dc once asked for a "shark and a clock"
We showed him loads of clocks and he actually wanted a perfectly plain kitchen clock with a navy blue plastic frame!
We got an Action Man diver set with a shark, and found ribs of "bubble gel" in the pound shop, with various plastic toy creatures at the bottom, a d one had a shark.
Fortunately he was happy ☺
DD somehow heard the word pamplemousse and decided she just HAD to have one, so we got one. She was NOT impressed when she tasted it!! 😂

RunningAwayToJoinTheCircus · 25/10/2023 05:22

Ribs? Tubs!!

Florin · 25/10/2023 05:40

When our son was 7 he asked for an electric blanket we had said no for ages so he asked Father Christmas who bought him one. He absolutely loved it.

GuitarGeorge · 25/10/2023 06:23

Ds, then aged about 12 or so, asked for bath towels. He said he’d like some that were just his.

The first year my DS was old enough to articulate what he wanted, he asked for a roll of binbags. That was easily sorted and he forgot he'd asked for them on Christmas morning and was confused. Still, useful to have spares.

This year is more challenging. He's asked for a squishy ball covered in 'grimps' (????) and when you squish it, white things poke out of it. He can't describe the white things. Apparently one of his friends has one and we had a slightly stressful time trying to find such a ball online this afternoon.

Assumed he meant those balls covered in nets where you squeeze them and it bulges through the holes- NOPE (no grimps!) Thought a grimp might, in fact, be a GRINCH, so showed him pictures of balls with grinches on (too scary!) So I'm stuck. If anyone has any ideas what this ball covered in grimps with non-descript white protrusions could possibly be, I'd be eternally grateful.

There are ones that the swishy bit on have faces put on.

My son has asked for matches every year since he was about 3. When asked why he just says ‘to light fires’. Oddly enough, FC has never obliged.

I had a standing rule that Father Christmas doesn’t bring livestock as it would be dangerous in the sleigh. Hadn’t realised how deeply that was ingrained until my 17 year old came home from work saying a child had told her they were asking Santa for a hamster and she’d automatically replied, ‘Father Christmas doesn’t bring livestock!’ The parent was in stitches.

Run4it2 · 25/10/2023 08:34

Pink toilet roll(dd aged about 5). She'd now 20 - may get her some for old times sake!

portocristo · 25/10/2023 08:35

Well this was my request from my younger self, a whole bottle of lucozade just for me with the shiny wrapping , I got one every year and absolutely loved it .

A lobster and a pumpkin
I bought toy ones but apparently she'd meant real ones !!

You’ve made me remember that my son wanted a lobster last year but one to eat because that’s what Lego Batman has apparently!

@Igglepiggleandhisboat weirdly Dd2 (8) has also asked for a typewriter this year!

A chainsaw. He was 9 at the time.

My friend’s son also asked for a chainsaw when he was about four. He got carried away and told his friends he was getting “a real chainsaw” for Christmas. Naturally, they were impressed.

When DD was two she kept asking for a sledgehammer, like her Grandad’s. Luckily by the time Christmas came around she’d forgotten all about it and asked only for oranges and hair clips.

I’ve got no idea where it’s come from. Possibly in the goosebumps books it mentions writing on a typewriter. Not 100% sure?!
