write a book, at almost 74? It will require travel to the other side of the world and lots of resources for the research. Probably no-one will publish it, and no-one will read it. Am I wasting the few years I have left and should I just play bridge and walk the dog? Cheers.

Hey your not allowed to have a life while I am sat here waiting to read your book (s) ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Seriously, I hope you have a good time in Aus with your Dgc 🪃🦘

pollyglot · 09/05/2024 06:58

Scotty! Here I am, back from Aus and now on to my 3rd book. A critic/former colleague whose opinion I greatly value has suggested that I try offering my (eventual) trilogy to publishers, rather than doing it myself on Amazon. Which I have done, with book 1...until the rejections start rolling in and then I might rethink. I'm having a local firm print a run of 50 for friends and family anyway, Would you like me to send you the digital version?

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 09/05/2024 09:13

Welcome back , I hope your trip down under was good.

Your 3rd book already ? ! Wow there is no stopping you 😀.

I hope you can get a couple of publishers interested.

It's very kind of you to offer me a digital version, it goes against mn rules to buy and sell here so I will pm you my email address .😉

pollyglot · 09/05/2024 15:46

No buying, no selling...just the unpublished manuscript for free

OP posts:
pollyglot · 09/05/2024 19:46

Badly phrased. You're welcome to a digital copy of my manuscript, which as we speak is being printed, but for nothing, because you've been such an encouragement to me in my endeavours. I can flick it to your email addy...if you'd like to send it by PM.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 09/05/2024 22:13

Sorry for the delayed reply work bite me on the arse !

I feel bad not paying for it after all the work you have put in . 🤔

pollyglot · 09/05/2024 22:54

Not a problem, Scotty...not in it to make money. But thank you for your graciousness.

pollyglot · 29/05/2024 07:36

Weyhey! First book back from printers tomorrow, second in for printing today, third now halfway through. Lots of research for no.3. Doing my own cover designs too.
this is what my DH wrote on FB about it...I'm quite choked up:

I've already read it. It's a fantastic book, every word shows how much my Chris feels about the subject. I am so proud.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 03/06/2024 21:36

Woo hoo that's fantastic fantastic! I am so happy for you .
Don't forget to pm us all a link so we can buy it .
I am so sorry that I haven't got back to you about the manuscript yet but I am working away and can't use the company phone or laptop to down load anything.
As soon as I am back home I will read it.

So you are a writer , going to be a artist , what next ? Lol .
It's so good that your dh is been so supportive, he is a gem .
What do your wider family think about it ?

ScottBakula · 09/06/2024 19:14

@pollyglot , I have just sent you a pm but I also wanted everyone that's on this thread to know I think your writing style is very good and it is easy to imagine what you are writing about.
Keep up the excellent work, I can't wait to read the rest.

pollyglot · 09/06/2024 19:18

Cheers for your encouragement, Scotty. I now get up before 5 every morning and write for 3 hours...Book 3 almost done, book 4 in the pipeline... x

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 10/06/2024 06:21

Early starts are no fun for me but I guess while the mornings are light and if you get some peace and quiet it's a good way start the day.
Keep it up 😀

ScottBakula · 15/07/2024 20:33

Hi @pollyglot , how is the writing going ?

pollyglot · 15/07/2024 20:39

Scotty!!! Just doing the final edit of the word doc before it goes off to the printer this afternoon. That's book 3, I mean,of the trilogy. And, (glancing modestly at my bitten nails...) if I do say so myself, it's my magnum opus. If you would kindly pm me your address, I'll get sending to you...x

ScottBakula · 16/07/2024 06:09

Good morning @pollyglot , that's great news .

Are you going to be able to sell it on amazon ( or a book shop ) or are you only getting a limited number printed ?

pollyglot · 19/07/2024 02:00

Just had 50 of each printed for family and friends, Scotty. Actually don't know why I bothered ...my own family are not the slightest bit interested and don't seem to want to even open the books, though they're all about their own ancestors. But then, mum is minimised on every count. Friends are happy though, and have praised them highly.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 19/07/2024 22:54

It's a shame your family are not interested, I guess some see it history so not relevant which is so far from the truth, but some just can't see that.
Others may be afraid of what it would reveal and the fact that your mum wasn't worth remembering which is really sad .
But you can't change people's opinions unless they are open to it.

The important thing is you are happy with it , you have achieved what you set out to do.
You should be really really proud of yourself .

I still want to read them !

pollyglot · 20/07/2024 03:32

Thanks Scotty, as always, for your encouragement, and apologies for the unforgiveable moaning! No, it's not my DM that's minimised...it's me. I'll get the books to you somehow!

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 20/07/2024 15:09

Dont apologise about moaning , id be chessesd off too .
Sorry I misunderstood the 'mum ' reference, I thought you meant that your family side lined all of the older members of your family ( living or dead)

I know you have offered your books to me but I feel bad about not paying for them all the time and effort you put in and the printing must of cost you quite a lot .
So because you have said you dont want paying for them ( PLEASE tell me if you have changed your mind about this ) How about , If its possible , I make a online donation to the hall you mentioned upthread that you were considering donating some of your books to for them to sell .
What do you think ? honest answers only please 😀

time2changeCharlieBrown · 20/07/2024 19:22

Definitely do it! You might regret it if not! Do it whilst you can

notatinydancer · 20/07/2024 20:45

What a fantastic achievement @pollyglot
They say everyone has a book in them , and you're up to 4.

Have you done any courses or anything? Id love to write a book , but wouldn't know where to start.

pollyglot · 31/07/2024 05:10

Two large cartons of my books arrived this afternoon!! Champers on ice...yay!!

OP posts:
BearWoman · 31/07/2024 05:46

Congratulations. You are a true inspiration.

pollyglot · 01/08/2024 07:50

Hi Scotty, and apologies for the late response. If you would like to make a small donation to the Hall, that would be wonderful, thank you! If you could flick me your address, I can get one book at a time into the post. Hoping to be over there before the end of the year (family in Devon/Wales/Yorkshire) I can get any residue of books to you then. Very grateful for your honesty and generosity...But please don't feel obliged.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 05/08/2024 12:05

@pollyglot , yeah that's great, I bet its wonderful to see them 'in the flesh '.
I'd love to make a donation, to the hall . Do you know 8f they have a website that I can donate through?

I would really appreciate a copy of your books if you have any spare.
Will you post them from your side if the pond or when you get to the UK?
Let me know when you are ready to post and I will pm you my address
