To talk to cleaner about this and not use again

We went away and paid our cleaner 4 hours to clean the house
She came and spent 1.hr 20 mins there and saw it on the door bell
We home swap and our last two guests said the house was not clean
We thought they were being fussy and couldn't understand
This home swap she spent 1hr 21 minutes there
I'm worried these guests will complain house isn't clean again
I need her to sort the house for our return
I want her to do the return clean as I haven't got any notice but she needs to unpack our groceries too
If we get another bad rating for cleanliness it's going to jeopardise our future swaps which is how we go on holiday
I'm so hurt
What shall I do? Say something or just leave and not use again? So so upset

Yes I agree , these women are being really horrid. It’s definitely coming across as jealousy.

LolSpinner · 23/10/2023 21:48

I don't work and I have a cleaner AND a gardener and I really don't give a monkeys if anyone disapproves. I've no health issues or any other things that mean I can't do my own cleaning. I just choose not to 🤷🏻‍♀️

My cleaner is one of my favourite people. She has worked for me for years and years.

I work as and when I want to, but other than that, same. I hire people to do the jobs I don’t like, and it’s fucking excellent tbh.

It really doesn’t matter why someone is paying for a service, they absolutely should expect to get what they’ve paid for.

Hi betray if you are anywhere near Surrey/Greater London I am a cleaner looking for extra hours

WiddlinDiddlin · 24/10/2023 05:31

Two options really:

1: Pay her up to date for the hours contracted, then sack her. Don't explain why, she knows. If she starts any silly bad reviews of unrelated businesses etc, then you can give her a bad review back and most review platforms let you respond. A simple 'you were seen leaving after x time when you'd been paid to do y hours, we felt we could no longer continue to work with you', will do.

2: Pay her for the hours she actually did. See if she dares query it. Let her go. Again if she starts bad review shit... well if she reviews a business shes never used, you can get those removed pretty easily. And as above.

I think people were more suggesting OP clean her own house this time instead of getting the same cleaner back again and wasting money for her to do a crap job and put away shopping. Not suggesting that she does her own cleaning forever!

Agreed.

Jealousy of what?

Immasucker · 24/10/2023 06:11

Why would you pay her for hours she doesn't do?! I would say to her you have had complaints from visitors about the house, and you noticed she did one hour 20 mins in her most recent visit. Leave her to explain herself. Let her ramble then say 'I think this isn't working for either of us. I will pay your 1hr 20. Good bye.'

Tiredmummy201 · 24/10/2023 07:44

I would raise it with her so she's aware you know she's not doing the full hours in the hope she will not do this again so at least the house is clean for your return. Then find a replacement, there's lots of amazing cleaners out there and you pay a reasonable rate so don't settle for someone that you can't trust to di a decent job.

lonelylou09 · 24/10/2023 08:23

I'm a cleaner and I say either confront her and ask her to make up the hours of work you've paid for that she hasn't done or get a different cleaner!
I do residential, holiday let's and second homes and my reputation for being hard working and trustworthy is so important.
I wouldn't dream of overcharging my clients.
Get rid of her!

liverpoolgal82 · 24/10/2023 08:42

Hi, could you not text her and say “ Hi, hope all well, would you mind doing an extra hour on the clean for our return as I noticed you didn’t have time to do the whole four hour clean for the guests so tee can use one of the hours there please if you’ve time this time round.” Many thanks”

Then when you pay next time take into consideration the hours she still owes you (1 &40 min) I think if she does an extra hour before your return - so either give less money with an explanation or wait till she’s caught up the hour/hours then pay.

You can say or text all this in a friendly non confrontational way so she knows you know without any accusations.

I have four kids. I always clean my house spotless the day before we go on holiday so it's spotless when I come home. We all use the same shower on the day we go, and I even use paper plates for breakfast, so I can bin them before we leave.

What ridiculously over-the-top behaviour and the breakfast thing is wasteful. Eat your breakfast on normal plates and wash them before you leave.

FloweryPumpkin · 24/10/2023 08:54

OP I would be annoyed but not hurt. I would absolutely ask why they had left so early. It’s not on.

Jealousy of what?

@sollenwir

jealousy at some women’s ability to break away from patriarchal norms and expectations around domestic labour.

The ability to break away from doing your own cleaning is largely down to income levels. Perhaps some folk might envy someone who doesn't have to clean their own property, however in this case it seems to be bringing so much stress that there's not much to envy.

Yes I agree , these women are being really horrid. It’s definitely coming across as jealousy.

Jealousy of what? If you are suggesting that people are somehow jealous of the OP's financial ability to employ a cleaner then I think you are way off the mark. Personally I would rather do my own cleaning all year and have holidays in a villa or hotel rather than swap with strangers, but luckily I'm not in a position to have to choose between the two.

Nobody disapproves or is jealous of anyone, they are just suggesting ditching the cleaner as the situation is causing the OP a lot of stress.

threatmatrix · 24/10/2023 21:44

You obviously haven’t read all the posts, some are downright nasty. I have a cleaner twice a week and have hotel holidays but I understand not very one can do this.

betray · 29/10/2023 15:36

I asked her how long I owed her for as I wanted to make sure I paid her quickly

She now has said hi it's £60 per clean

I think she realised I know she wasn't there for the time she said she would be

It was per hour before and that's what I agreed

I think I'll just pay her but never use her again

OP posts:
therealcookiemonster · 29/10/2023 15:52

£60 for 1hr20 clean?? that is actually insane. I would personally send her screenshots of previous msgs and tell her she didn't clean as agreed and refuse to pay in full. but obv I can understand that you want to avoid stress

skyeisthelimit · 29/10/2023 17:11

Do you have anything from her stating its per hour? text, email?

If so then pay her for exactly the hours that she was there. She can't change the rates after you agree them with her.

Squeezita · 29/10/2023 20:14

You would be mad to pay.

Your agreement was per hour, don’t let her make a mug of you.

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 16/11/2023 20:20

@FloweryPumpkin I'll do what I like thanks. Suits me to clean before I go as I'm always home around 1 in the morning and up for work the next day.
