To talk to cleaner about this and not use again

We went away and paid our cleaner 4 hours to clean the house
She came and spent 1.hr 20 mins there and saw it on the door bell
We home swap and our last two guests said the house was not clean
We thought they were being fussy and couldn't understand
This home swap she spent 1hr 21 minutes there
I'm worried these guests will complain house isn't clean again
I need her to sort the house for our return
I want her to do the return clean as I haven't got any notice but she needs to unpack our groceries too
If we get another bad rating for cleanliness it's going to jeopardise our future swaps which is how we go on holiday
I'm so hurt
What shall I do? Say something or just leave and not use again? So so upset

you are right, she is wrong
fair enough?

sunnyseed · 22/10/2023 12:29

The trust is gone now. I wouldn’t want her back in my house, she’s proven that she’s dishonest. And yes, tell her the reason why.

I think you're making the mistake of believing that everyone's jobs take up the same amount of headspace/after hours work, which they don't.

And it's still primarily women who shoulder the shitwork burden, and the mental load of family life. To call those who contract some of that out lazy is really unpleasant and unsisterly.

I think you reveal that you think there's something disgusting about being a cleaner. There's no shame in being one and no shame in hiring one. It's like hiring a builder or DIY-ing - people make their decisions based on their finances and their abilities.

1/10. Must try harder.

Yeah I shouldn't have bitten should I?

Missingmyusername · 22/10/2023 12:33

Your paying her for a service and she’s not delivering that.
I’d not use her again. Pay her this time and give no feedback if you’re worried about negative reviews, doesn’t sound like you have a choice.

If OP could do the cleaning herself she would. It is indeed a pointless comment. The answer is obviously no!

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 22/10/2023 12:34

I have four kids. I always clean my house spotless the day before we go on holiday so it's spotless when I come home. We all use the same shower on the day we go, and I even use paper plates for breakfast, so I can bin them before we leave.

theduchessofspork · 22/10/2023 12:34

Don’t tie yourself up in knots.

Tell her you can see she hasn’t done the work and you’ve had complaints.

Then book someone else.

If she leaves a malicious review you can ask for it to be taken down (they know if someone stayed or not) and also leave a response.

However I doubt she will. She clearly can’t be arsed.,

What’s this got to do with anything?!

I tried to say that upthread. What a first world problem

Warum · 22/10/2023 08:40

Can't you do the cleaning yourself?

How is this helpful?

@TruthSeeker2023 I suppose you feel the same about restaurants, babysitters, gardeners, grocery delivery services, car washes or any other service? Ridiculous comment.

@TruthSeeker2023

this

cleaning is a service like any other.
get a grip

AuntyMabelandPippin · 22/10/2023 12:37

I wouldn't be paying her for 8 hours, I'd be paying for 3 at the most. You've got proof she wasn't there.

We’re in the first world, most of the problems here are first world problems.

That doesn’t make them invalid. The OP is running a business and an employee is jeopardising it. That’s a completely reasonable thing to post about.

PhantomUnicorn · 22/10/2023 12:39

at £17ph i certainly wouldn't be paying her for 8 hours work when she barely did 3.

Squeezita · 22/10/2023 12:39

Warum · 22/10/2023 08:51

Well, not really, and others have suggested similar.

No one has suggested similar. Keep digging.

User0000009 · 22/10/2023 12:46

LuckySantangelo35 · 22/10/2023 09:27

@Warum

yes. You are the only one who suggested that op does the cleaning herself.

I suggested it

AdobeWanKenobi · 22/10/2023 12:53

Anyone else? 😉

SALWARP2023 · 22/10/2023 12:59

Pay her for the hours she has worked and ask if she would like to make up the rest. Remind her of the Doorbell camera. Long term best to find someone else though. Even if she is in the house she may not be working.

greenbeansnspinach · 22/10/2023 13:02

Snazzysausage I think some people don’t realise that a ring doorbell records.

Harrysmummy246 · 22/10/2023 13:05

Don't be upset, tell her you won't be using her any more as her work isn't up to the agreed standard and to be honest, I'd be telling her I could see she hadn't spent the agreed time.
You're already going to be getting bad reviews and she's treating you like a mug

theduchessofspork · 22/10/2023 13:07

betray · 22/10/2023 08:45

No I will be paying her for 8 hours @£17 ph

Why are you paying her for work she hasn't done? She's laughing at you

Unicorntastic · 22/10/2023 13:08

Have you considered paying per clean rather than by the hour? That might work better for you, I manage a holiday home (not mine) and we have had a few different cleaning companies before finding current ones as lots of them start off good but deteriorate over time, especially if they don’t have the same staff every week , it’s too big a place for 1 cleaner so in my case I did need a company.
our current ones charge per clean so sometimes they are out early if the house is fairly clean, that might be better for you as you won’t feel cheated.

I will say though that an air BnB clean is different to a normal house clean.

Terribly sorry that you have a gun to your head forcing you to respond (multiple times) to threads you deem so silly. Hope you’re rescued shortly.

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 22/10/2023 13:27

I'd message her and say you noticed she has only done 1:2.0 hrs and was wondering why and if she was going to make up the time. See what she says.

Hi Cleaner,
Just checking how things were going. We got a ring doorbell notification that you were only at the house for 1:20 hrs after the last guests and we were wondering if there was a problem.
Can you let me know
Thanks

This!!!!! You have proof, she's an idiot not to realise it's a ring doorbell. Just message her and query it - and only pay for the time worked. She will either pull her socks up or you can let her go.
