Crying at Beckham (sweary)

IncognitoMam · 13/10/2023 22:24

Has anyone else been teary watching it? I have sons in their 20s and can't imagine how he felt and his poor parents.
That landlord should have been prosecuted.
Glen hoddle is a cunt.

Beckham's poor face when the crowds were shouting at him. 😞

Just me then.

Can't believe people sent bullets.

I found that bit a tough watch. You’d have thought he intentionally scored an own goal or something from the hostile treatment he received for months.

siriusblackcat · 14/10/2023 12:08

I got teary too OP, the treatment he got was ridiculous.

Azaeleasinbloom · 14/10/2023 12:11

Glen Hoddle’s treatment and attitude is sadly pretty endemic in football ime. Lot of bullying. I don’t think Alex Ferguson came out of it too well either.

stayathomegardener · 14/10/2023 12:14

I don't think it's black and white.

Personally I felt his Dad did not come across well.

And regarding the pitch incident he did have a tantrum and kick out completely unnecessarily resulting in the sending off and potentially the loss of the game.

That said the vitriol and the press were something else, completely inexcusable.

Both he and his family should be credited by not only riding it out with dignity but coming back victorious.

With you on Glen Hoddle so unprofessional.

For me Victoria (who I already liked) shot up in my estimation.

IncognitoMam · 14/10/2023 16:01

Yes I liked Victoria in this.

What’s the landlord story?

Lampzade · 14/10/2023 16:13

Thought Beckam’s father and Glen Hoddle came across badly
Beckam’s mum seems lovely. I get the impression that her ex was difficult to live with

Fantina · 14/10/2023 16:10

What’s the landlord story?

I think they mean the pub landlord who had the effigy of DB on a noose.

Fantina · 14/10/2023 16:24

Ohhh. I thought they had a rogue landlord who wouldn’t fix their boiler 😂

IncognitoMam · 14/10/2023 18:00

Yes a pub landlord hung an effigy of Beckham from his pub scaffolding.

That's appaling

Sillybillymillyvanilly · 14/10/2023 18:16

Why did Victoria tell him she was pregnant the night before the Argentina game?!? The cynic in me thinks she did it to put him off his game so they would lose. She said herself she didn’t like football so possibly didn’t understand how serious it was taken by the fans. She said they’d been apart a few months and she wanted to see him.

ohsoso · 14/10/2023 18:19

@Sillybillymillyvanilly It seemed crazy to tell him the night before a huge game! Like I know you’re excited and want to tell your partner asap but wow, the timing

Wiccan · 14/10/2023 18:27

Me and my hubby watched it . Yes we thought it was quite emotional too. Always liked both of them . Glen Hoddle is a cunt and I cannot believe the behaviour of people. There are some nasty fuckers out there including the media . David Beckham must be so damaged from the way he was treated . Who the hell would want to be famous !

Mummymn · 14/10/2023 18:31

I've recently been listening to the Abbey clancey Peter crouch podcast and she said that she often used to ring up moaning about silly things like we all do but then he had to point out he was literally walking onto the pitch in a few minutes and could it wait. She said it was a weird life and I wonder if the Victoria pregnancy bit was of the similar train of thought..just totally forgot because she wasn't into football and in her head it was just him off at work (or even that he was playing for fun)

Hbh17 · 14/10/2023 18:31

It struck me that he was pretty much bullied by his father, and that David was forced to live out his dad's dream.... fortunately, he was talented.
And think how much worse everything would have been if social media had been around in the late 90s ?

Hickry · 14/10/2023 18:34

I've never been into football or spice girls but I did watch this on the recommendation of a friend and really enjoyed watching it, and found they grew on me while watching.

Tangled123 · 14/10/2023 18:41

I only started watching it to hear the story of how Posh and Becks met after seeing the teaser on Netflix. The documentary sucked me in though and I watched the whole thing. It was very good. Shocking how they were treated after that World Cup exit but the documentary never mentioned any World Cups after that. How was he treated in those ones? I’d have liked to have seen something about his England captain days but the show left that out completely. (Not even an England fan).
I felt really sorry for him that his last game was played for PSG and not with the players he was with for years though.

MillTree · 14/10/2023 18:58

I enjoyed the documentary. Didn’t realise how much the Beckhams went through. But I’m pretty nuanced about it. He was a cheeky thing. And he was distracted. He made loads of mistakes. But then learnt from them. And hey… here is the thing… no one comes off as a villain, they’re just human. Like ALL of us. I’ve been a massive dick sometimes. But those experiences shaped me. I learnt from them. And hopefully became a better person.

The thing that annoys me the most about people and humanity in general is the massive expectations placed on others. Like we’re not all human?! We all are flawed. None of us is perfect. We’re all a work in progress.

What became clear to me is that Victoria is David’s rock. She keeps things light and fun. And she adores him. And he her. Yes, he may have had an affair, but they stayed together. That’s their business. 😜

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 14/10/2023 19:08

I didn't get the feeling that he adored her at all anymore.

Lampzade · 14/10/2023 19:52

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 14/10/2023 19:08

I didn't get the feeling that he adored her at all anymore.

Me either
I think he takes her for granted. It was quite sad to see how affectionate he was to her previously compared to the way he treats her now.
She definitely loves him more than he loves her imho

IncognitoMam · 14/10/2023 20:38

No I didn't get the feeling he adored her now. Hope we're wrong.

MillTree · 16/10/2023 17:55

Nah, I disagree. I think that's just his personality. He's a quiet lad. I thought they looked very happy together.

Good I hope so as I like her.

I found he was very selfish but she put up with it.
