Has anyone else been teary watching it? I have sons in their 20s and can't imagine how he felt and his poor parents.
That landlord should have been prosecuted.
Glen hoddle is a cunt.

Beckham's poor face when the crowds were shouting at him. 😞

Haven’t seen the documentary. Obviously nobody should be subject to the kind of abuse he was after the whole sending-off debacle. Hanging effigies, sending bullets and hate mail etc is utterly unacceptable in any circumstances.

He did, however, absolutely deserve strong criticism. It wasn’t as if he just missed a penalty or something. He deliberately did something that was a) pointless, b) stupid and c) an OBVIOUS red card offence in a massively important game in which he was playing for the country and essentially lost the game through his own selfish petulance. If he’d made a rash tackle through competitiveness and a desire to win, and got sent off for that, it would be totally different - that would have been a bit of bad timing or over-zealousness and an understandable risk to take.

But instead he needlessly lashed out like a baby while lying on the ground when the ball wasn’t even in play, in a way that could have had no possible good outcome, right under the nose of the ref. So while obviously he shouldn’t have been threatened or harassed in the way he was, it wasn’t unreasonable for him to get strongly criticised in the press, or booed off the pitch by the crowd, or bollocked big-time by the manager.
