Antisemitism and islamaphobia

Theworldislost · 13/10/2023 18:13

I am a Muslim woman, a mother of 4 children, a business woman and a uk citizen born and bred. Today I was called a terrorist because of the atrocities happening right now. I wear a hijab. This means I am identifiable as a Muslim.

There have been reports of rising antisemitism. But please be aware that islamaphobia is again on the rise also!

Please look out for your friend's, family and neighbours. Whether you are black, white, Muslim, Jewish or of any other community.

No one deserves being called a terrorist for walking down the road, for being out having coffee with a friend, for collecting their kids from school.

Sorry this happened to you, unfortunately idiots are everywhere and there needs to be more people calling out any kind of prejudice.

DustyLee123 · 13/10/2023 18:17

I’m sorry you suffered this, they are uneducated idiots.

andtheworldrollson · 13/10/2023 18:17

We all need to look out for each other

To remember that most people don't want to kill others

Azaeleasinbloom · 13/10/2023 18:20

Sorry that you are experiencing this. Some people are ignorant, and sadly others like to capitalise on situations such as these to push their own prejudices to the fore.
Stay safe.

natura · 13/10/2023 18:20

I'm so sorry, @Theworldislost. From a Jewish woman to you – I'm so sorry.

Theworldislost · 13/10/2023 18:30

Thank you. I'm fine. I have dealt with similar before. I luckily don't care and hold.my head high knowing I haven't done any wrong.

This is just a kind reminder to be kind to everyone

I'm so sorry - you are right NO ONE deserves this.

I have a very Irish name (like Irish McIrishface!) and during the 70's and 80's got a lot of abuse in school - similar to that (go blow up yourself IRA scum etc etc) but at least I could hide in public as no one knew my name and I was white like everyone else - it's shameful and again I am very sorry. Take care of yourself and your friends and family and thank you for caring about those around you.

Theworldislost · 13/10/2023 18:31

I an also white. So that's an extra stick to be beaten with!

Be kind people

I'm really sorry this happened. Anti-semitism and Islamophobia, any kind of xenophobia is vile.
We should all respect each other, it's the least we can do.

I'm sorry for making that assumption - forgive me for my seeming ignorance. I guess your clothing makes you identifiable - as a young woman of Irish heritage there was nothing that I wore that distinguished me from everyone else in my town.

MirrorBell · 13/10/2023 18:34

People can be disgusting. I worry for my cousins who wear the hijab. Stay safe and remember that not everybody is filled with hate.

ChickHenLittle · 13/10/2023 18:37

I'm sorry you're going through this @Theworldislost, it's the actions of idiots, but that doesn't make it any better when you're the target.
I always have and will continue to call out Islamophobia if I see it, it's vile behaviour.

greengreengrass25 · 13/10/2023 18:41

So sorry to hear this OPFlowers

Theworldislost · 13/10/2023 18:41

@ghostyslovesheets oh no that's ok. I actually meant to add it to my OP but thought it shouldn't matter what my skin colour is. But actually it seems it does

I'm sorry for what you went through also.

If only women could rule the world. We’d all get on.

It’s men who cause all this hate and violence.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 13/10/2023 18:44

I’m so sorry that happened to you, OP. 💐

sockarefootwear · 13/10/2023 18:51

I'm sorry you experienced this OP. I have also just found out that an Israeli born student that I know and a jewish friend have both experienced revolting comments today. All I can do is promise that I will call this out whenever I hear it and try to send a message that most people in the UK have no time for prejudice of any kind.

Graphista · 13/10/2023 18:54

So sorry you're dealing with this op, relatives of mine (Muslim and Jewish) are too at the moment, similar to a pp I have an Irish surname too so had that nonsense as a youngster.

Never an excuse for it!

People need to wind their necks in! It's not as if Christians or indeed any religion have an unblemished record!

Live and let live but also hoping the current turmoil ends peacefully and soon!

Theworldislost · 13/10/2023 19:01

Amazing ladies here!

I meant to add to my post, this also goes for online! It's not an excuse to hide behind a keyboard sprouting nonsense and twisting people's words.

You're not wrong there.

Noicant · 13/10/2023 19:05

YADNBU OP, I’m sorry that happened to you. I wish every idiot didn’t feel the need to share their thoughts with the normal people they come across is the street. I’ve only ever been racially abused by men funnily enough, I’m a 5ft 2 woman, cowardice.

Nevermind31 · 13/10/2023 19:07

It is very sad that this is still happening in this day and age. And that it is getting worse again.
you would have hoped that people have learnt from history, and that being of a certain religion, skin colour or culture does not mean you want to do anything but live a peaceful life.

Sourisblanche · 13/10/2023 19:08

So sorry. It’s been an awful week and tensions are running high. For the most part, I think people rub along together well in normal times and I’m proud to be part of a uk where all religions (or atheists) are welcome.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 13/10/2023 19:12

That js really sad to hear. I'm so sorry this happened. A friend told me today that her son was being called Hamas by a group of boys in his year.

BookwormDadUK · 13/10/2023 19:12

I hate this happened. I will never understand how people could be so vile to a stranger. A good friend of mine was chased down the street after the Glasgow Airport attack (it happened near us) and had to take refuge in a chip shop.

Tensions are running high with current events; I only hope this thread shows the majority of people would never dream of this behaviour under any circumstances.

I wish peace for you and yours, OP.
