In December got word of 2 school trips
Wrote chqs & sent in with forms

Today I get phone call DD thinks shhe is going to XYZ trip

Yes says I she is

Oh says teacher you haven't paid

Yes says I I have

Checked chq stub - chq written
Checked bank - chq not cashed

So now DD is missing a once in a lifetime trip & it's all my fault???

DD is 10 & I do check her bag every few days to make sure stuff is handed in & never saw this envelope after I sent it in - plus DD & school apparently know all about DH wanting to help (so unusual for a dad to want to help)

So I think she should go - they say there are no places - they filled that last one last week - I ABU to think she should still go aren't I?

If there really are no places left then it looks as though yur DD is going to miss out. I'd ask the school to put her on the waiting list in case someone drops out.

On the plus side your DD will now be extra careful about anything that needs handed in to school...

KatyMac · 07/03/2008 15:13

Now found out the other chq in the same envelope got there - not sure what to think now

peanutbear · 07/03/2008 15:15

I think they should look fo rthe cheque yu have written to see if they can find it

She must of handed it in to believe she was going our school takes ages to cash cheques so I wouldnt have been alarmed that it hadnt been cashed yet

Ceolas · 07/03/2008 15:15

So she didn't give the cheque to her teacher?

Ceolas · 07/03/2008 15:16

"Now found out the other chq in the same envelope got there"

How weird!

KatyMac · 07/03/2008 15:17

She gave 2 form & 2 chqs to her teacher in one envelope

They found one form & 1 chq

(definalty haven't the form or the chq at home)

aw shite how

When is trip? Is it likely that someone might drop out? Could dd be a reserve in case?

Why is there a limit on numbers? Is it due to staff/pupil ratio in which case if DH helps could that fix things?

I suppose you ABU, but why didnt the school check before now? I would be GRRRR but there's not much more the school can do is there....

PortAndLemon · 07/03/2008 15:18

If other cheque in same envelope got there I would kick up a big fuss. Most likely they took out one cheque and then threw away the envelope without checking.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 07/03/2008 15:19

Katy there are two issues here
1 Whereabouts of the missing cheque

2 How to resolve issue of whether your DC can go on school trip.

I think a phone call to your bank to cancel the cheque is a priority.
You need to go to see the Head to thrash out whether DC can be squeezed in.

How awful for you, and DC

chopchopbusybusy · 07/03/2008 15:21

OK - if the other cheque in the same envelope was cashed, then that's different and I would complain. What sort of trip is it? Can an extra place be squeezed in?

KatyMac · 07/03/2008 15:22

20/3

& now I can't get tickets

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 07/03/2008 15:26

I'd kick up a big stink if the cheques were both in the same envelope.
It means it isn't your fault but theirs which is totally unfair.
I'd also make sure in future I gave all cheque type things to the receptionist myself and got a receipt.

TsarChasm · 07/03/2008 15:27

Yes sounds like the envelope got thrown away with the other cheque still in it.

How annoying and sad fro your dd

Makes me wonder whether they should be sending home a receipt when money for trips etc is sent to the school.

KatyMac · 07/03/2008 15:35

I think I will ask for a receipt in future

DD has always been good at handing in money & letters & stuff
I just check cos I'm like that

OP posts:
KatyMac · 07/03/2008 16:06

What I want to do is get tickets for the same day and stuff the school

But I am struggling finding tickets tbh

OP posts:
PortAndLemon · 07/03/2008 16:08

What's the trip to?

KatyMac · 07/03/2008 16:09

Tutankhamun

OP posts:
Fimbo · 07/03/2008 16:12

I had this too, not for a trip but for a special lunch at school. I paid cash which made it worse. School said not to worry these things happen and dd could still have the lunch.

It has made me wary though and now if it something important, I personally hand it in to the school office myself. Then if it goes astray I can say but I gave it to Mrs X or Mrs Y.

KatyMac · 07/03/2008 16:14

She gets the bus to school so I can't really hand it in

OP posts:
PortAndLemon · 07/03/2008 16:15

There seem to be tickets available here for that date (AM tickets, anyway).

hana · 07/03/2008 16:23

schools should really be giving out reciepts for this sort of thing

KatyMac · 07/03/2008 16:25

Thanks Portandlemon - those tickets are great (expensive but great) is that a safe place to buy from?

OP posts:
DoubleBluff · 07/03/2008 16:26

How unfair esp when it is not your DDs fault.
The school should have checked when they noticed that you hadn't paid esp if your Dh was offering to go too, .

PortAndLemon · 07/03/2008 16:44

I haven't used them myself, but attractiontix is a trading name of Attraction World Ltd, who are a very large and established ticket broker, and the only feedback there seems to be on them online is favourable.

KatyMac · 07/03/2008 16:47

Ok

Now I just need to tell DD, tell DH

Cancel all the childminding children
& book it

Bu&&er I forgot about cancelling all the children damn
