I understand why they are so set on destroying Hamas

Having seen the stories of the women and girls raped at the festival (reportedly over their dead friends bodies) and the people taken off as hostage; I understand why Israel want to destroy Hamas. They have said that Hamas militants are dead men. They have said that they will go after them. The worst killing of Jewish people since the Holocaust and their 9/11 with death toll of over 1300 people.

The story of the women at the Music and Peace festival is here -

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12623023/Israeli-girls-raped-friends-bodies-Hamas-terrorists-carried-second-Holocaust-British-relatives-reveal-condemn-celebrated-atrocities-Gaza-Iran-London.html

Yet some people celebrated when the killings of Jewish people (they were from many different countries) at the festival was announced.

I feel sadness for everything going on in the middle east and for all the people who are innocent are are dying. Terrorists need to be stopped.

Hamas 'carried out a second Holocaust' in Israel British relatives say

Two British nationals, Noam Sagi and Sharon Lifschitz (pictured), spoke of how their elderly parents were torn from their beds and forcibly deported to Gaza by Hamas along with children

Also half the population of Gaza are children because children are used to occupy. That’s also why Hamas murdered babies and children. Both sides treat it as a population arms race. The Israelis invite Jews to move to Israel and the Palestinians have lots of babies. No one wants to give an inch and nobody will be leaving voluntarily. And they justify committing the worst atrocities on each other and each others children. And we enable it.

as a parent and as a woman I am horrified by the use of rape as a weapon and the thought of a human being able to decapitate a baby or beat a toddler or grandmother to death. There’s no moral high road for animals who can do that. But is mass murdering through fire and bombing any different? Either way it’s the women and children who suffer so why aren’t WE saying it’s fucking enough? Why do we let men do monstrous things in the name of power and ideology?

Okaaaay · 12/10/2023 17:01

I find the whole thing horrifying. All of the countries defending Israel’s right to defend itself and retaliate - essentially sanctioning them to obliterate the lives, homes and livelihoods of innocent people in order to kill off the evil militants. My heart aches for the women and children, who last week were working, playing, going to school like we are today, who now have no water, electricity, home, shelter or safety. My heart aches for them. The attack on Israel was absolutely deplorable, but to cut off the literal lifeline of 2m people in retaliation feels similarly cruel. I don’t know the answer, I don’t fully understand the politics but I’m absolutely certain the majority of these people don’t deserve to die in this way. It is beyond sad and makes life feel very fragile.

I hate the whataboutery

I side with Israel 100%. Hamas must be destroyed. Perhaps Egypt could help get the women and children out to safety.

Completely agree with this.

I also don't see what is wrong with comparing these attacks to the Holocaust when Hamas have repeatedly stated that their aim is the complete destruction of Israel.

The aim of hamas is to annihilate Israel and its people, but israel are the ones committing genocide?
They aren't killing Palestinians in the west bank or Israel, just the ones affiliated with hamas

Really? I wasn't aware that they could accurately identify a terrorist from a civilian. If this is the case, why 40% of the injured are children? Sorry, they are terrorists in the making so legitimate targets of course.
Israel, by deliberately laying siege to Gaza, are being indiscriminate in their targeting, which is a war crime. They are even refusing a humanitarian corridor!

Yeahno · 12/10/2023 17:04

Ok. For argument sake, let's agree that ALL Palestinian celebrated Hamas disgusting actions. That means they are not innocent and Israel should therefore kill as much Palestinian as possible, including children? Interesting times.
People are calling what happened in Israel a second Holocaust. What do we call what is happening in Palestine? As someone who was neutral on the events in the middle East before now, I can say that what Hamas did is horrific what Israel is doing is just as horrific, if not more. This type or retaliation will not help Israels cause.

Sparklybanana · 12/10/2023 17:06

They aren't destroying hamas - they are CREATING hamas. Imagine being forced to leave your house because an Israeli wanted to move in but now bombs are wiping out your neighbourhood, your parents, your brothers, your childhood friends, you have to stay put and starve whilst they get their anger out. Imagine that someone wants to "wipe you off the face of the earth". Have you killed anyone? No. Does it matter to the Israelis? No. Are you going to accept the murder of everyone you love? No. Are you new Hamas?
Of course you are.
The Israelis are currently trying to wipe out the Palestinians out of a small area of land where they have no access to electricity, water or food and can't leave. Which event in history followed that storyline?
There is no excuse for a so called civilised nation to attack civilians and kill so many children and then try and say they have the moral high ground.

@localnotail I just can't wrap my head around anyone discussing how despicable the hamas attacks were whilst falling to mention the bombing and siege of two million people, who may well die of dehydration.

First of all, Hamas were told the water and electricity supply will be restored if the hostages are returned. Why not return them to protect the people? Also, isn't there around 100k Hamas fighters that are part of the 2mln people?

I fail to understand how someone expects to kill about 900 civilians and not expect a consequence. If Hamas cared for Gazans, they would have prepared - shelters, generators, desalination stations. But did they? no. All the money went on rockets.

potatoheads · 12/10/2023 17:07

OP Israel is currently committing war crimes. Is Hamas a terrorist group commuting atrocities? Yes. Is Israel now committing war crimes by targeting civilians? Also yes.

sorrynotathome · 12/10/2023 17:08

Are we all commenting in the full knowledge of how the state of Israel was founded? That the British "took" Palestine after WW1 and then decided to give part of it to "the Jews" as a homeland? A part where only 10% of the inhabitants were actually Jewish? It's not really surprising that there is conflict.

Healthandsocialcaremodule · 12/10/2023 17:08

"If you baby was taken hostage, your daughter raped and killed would you say 'oh well move on'. Innocent people caught up in this are dying."

It's not a football match. You don't have to have a favourite bunch of child killers.

Isreal is occupying Gaza and kills Palestinians walking to school. Now they're going to commit genocide and starve children.

Palestine has Hamas and they bomb innocent people are murderous child killing bastards.

Two bunches of religious idiots doing murder. If you have a favourite that's on you.

localnotail · 12/10/2023 17:11

I'm just interested what people think Israel should do. After the attacks. Keeping in mind there are no negotiations possible and that Hamas is not interested in freedom or 2 state arrangement; they only want Israel to disappear off the face of the earth. What is the answer? Because I literally don't know.

I think before the British it was a part of the Ottoman Empire, not an independent country.

GlitchStitch · 12/10/2023 17:15

Hamas redirect most the aid sent to Palestine to their own pockets. They use children as human shields. They throw gay people off buildings, oversee high rates on honour killings. Openly state that their aim is the eradication of Jews. Now they are committing such atrocities as beheading babies. How are they any different from ISIS?

Yet their acts are defended and celebrated openly by people in the West. Some people really do hate Jews.

You are lucky you don't know anyone living in either territory. I have a lot of friends in Israel, some of them I still can't locate, so "picking the side" this time round is kind of easy.

Perfect28 · 12/10/2023 17:17

@llocalnotail that's letting your emotional brain rule your rational one. An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind. Palestinians have friends too, families, hopes.

Yes, "taken" by the British as part of the carve-up of the defunct Ottoman Empire. Not an independent country but a defined area known as Palestine, inhabited by Palestinians.

My heart aches for ordinary people on both sides, but I'm talking about Hamas here. Supporting them is literally supporting ISIS and other bloodthirsty shit. I'm sorry but they have to be eradicated.

Healthandsocialcaremodule · 12/10/2023 17:19

I have a friend who works as a medic in Palestine, we trained together in another life. I still think Hamas are cunts. Still don't want to murder Israeli children @localnotail

So you think Israel should just ignore the beheading of babies?

You think they should just let them carry on with their plan to eradicate jews and do nothing?

I wonder if this statement still holds true?

"“The Arab States do not want to solve the refugee problem. They want to keep it as an open sore, as an affront to the United Nations and as a weapon against Israel. Arab leaders don't give a damn whether the refugees live or die.”

former head of UNRWA in Jordan, Sir Alexander Galloway, in April 1952

Saudi were getting closer ties with Israel and then Iran fund Hamas who attack and then the closer ties evaporate. Some countries don't want the problem to be solved at all.

100%

There's widespread support for Hamas in Palestine. The terrorist are hiding behind civilians, who in turn harbour them.

No one is responsible for Palestinian deaths to come but Hamas. They must be destroyed.

Would you rather see Israel disappear? Because it had come to this, sadly.

Perfect28 · 12/10/2023 17:25

@localnotail why do you think it's a choice? Your words are making me feel sick to my stomach. Do you honestly think Israel would be justified in starving to death 2 million people?
