For me its after every wear (apart from jeans and joggers which is around 2-3 wears)

However this means i have a never ending flow of laundry

How many wears from freshly laundered would you go.

Oh when I say underwear after every wear I'm not including bras. Sports bras yes as they're soaked with sweat! Normal bras once a week but I rotate them

LakieLady · 12/10/2023 15:01

Socks, tights, knickers and tops after every wear. Bras, after one wear if I've had the infernal thing on all day, or if it's been hot, but mine are so bloody uncomfortable that I often go braless unless I'm actually leaving the house (the sight of my 36GGs roaming free would frighten the horses).

Jeans/trousers depends on how much wear they've had as, like my bras, I only tend to wear them if I'm leaving the house. It could be every other day if I've had them on most of the day, but today I put jeans on because I had to pop into the office. I was back indoors in less than 20 minutes, and 20 minutes doesn't constitute a whole wear to me. I wear wide-legged yoga pants around the house, and those get washed after 2 wears.

Bedding gets done approx every 10 days. I don't get hot and sweaty in bed and since my DP died there's been no exchanging of body fluids, so the bedding stays pretty clean.

When it comes to towels, I'm a complete slattern by MN standards, I let them go for weeks. I don't actually dry myself on them, just wrap them round me and wander round faffing, moisturising, doing my hair etc until I'm dry. They never look dirty and never smell.

mydogisthebest · 12/10/2023 15:38

Good grief, some people must spend their lives washing. All that water and electric waste! Plus clothes will never last as long if they are forever being washed

I wear knickers and socks once. Bras I wear for 4 days before changing. Every other item of clothing depends how long I wore it for, the weather (obviously when hot I sweat more), where I wore it.

If an item of clothing gets dirty on one wearing then I wash it.

I will usually get 3 wears from Tee shirts/tops, 3 from dresses, 4 or 5 from trousers. Fleeces and jumpers I wash when I feel they need it so could be after 1 wear or, more likely, after about 7 wears.

Jeans I rarely wash unless they get dirty/stained. You are not meant to wash jeans very often.

bbcfolkie · 12/10/2023 16:08

Undies after every wear obviously (not including bras, I'll wear those a few times)

Tops/t shirts I may wear for a couple of days as long as I haven't stained them or done anything sweaty.

Jeans/outerwear like hoodies I'd wear numerous times unless they are grubby or smelly!

SacAMain · 12/10/2023 16:11

or they have a washing machine so they don't actually do anything 😂

I don't wash my clothes by hand but still need to sort into colours, separate delicate or hand-wash items, put in machine, hang out to dry, collect, sort into piles of iron or non iron and then distribute to the owner of clothing.
It's not the most onerous of household tasks but it doesn't do itself!
I wouldn't be happy doing that for a skirt, jeans or hoodie that had been worn once unless they had got dirty. It's a waste of time (and energy - in all senses of the word)
Plus how do people have space to dry this volume of washing if every item gets washed after every wear? We have 2 parents and 2 teens in our house and I do about 4 loads of washing per week. In the winter I couldn't dry much more than that unless I put the tumble dryer on for hours which I'm not prepared to do from an eco or economic perspective. (Not everyone has a dryer anyway)

You do whatever you want to be honest,
but it takes me less time to sort my laundry than it takes me to be on MN 😂

I have a garden, I am South London, so laundry is outside all year round. I wouldn't have the space inside for the normal laundry, plus my kids swimming towels, the sports kits..

People organise themselves as they like, but laundry really is a non-issue unless you make it one.

CurlewKate · 12/10/2023 18:38

@Fightyouforthatpie
Alternatively <Mumsnet> You wash your clothes? How very dare you, don't you care about the environment? I beat my clothes with a rock every 4-6 weeks. Works perfectly.<Mumsnet>

Favouritefruits · 12/10/2023 18:40

Clean clothes everyday, think this stems from childhood wearing white socks that looked black!

NetZeroZealot · 12/10/2023 18:41

Socks and knickers - one wear
Bras - 3 wears
T-shirts and tight fitting tops - 2 wears
Everything else- when it looks dirty or starts to smell
Jeans - almost never

Fionaville · 12/10/2023 18:44

Underwear every time.
Clothes, depending on what I've been doing. If I've been sat somewhere the general public sit, it gets washed. Or if there's a mark on it. Otherwise I'll wear stuff twice. My kids get fresh clothes everyday because they are always mucky. That's countered by DH who works from home and wears the same stuff all week (he does shower twice a day though)

Iusedtoworkthere · 12/10/2023 18:48

After every wear because of menopausal hot flushes.

Motheranddaughter · 12/10/2023 18:51

Most things after every wear
But I have a few pairs of joggers and big jumpers which I put on when I get home from work and I wear these for 2/3 nights

Wendysfriend · 12/10/2023 18:56

We turn underwear inside out so we get two wears out of them. Everything else gets febreezed, sure you're walking outside and giving your clothes a good airing.

AlwaysPrettyOnTheInside · 12/10/2023 18:57

I wash things when dirty. Could be after 1 wear, could be indefinite if hung and aired between wears.

I've even reworn knickers if I only had them on for 20 mins while I popped to the shop and back.

I'm a minger, but so what, I'm not dead. I have a very good immune system actually.

Majbluemug · 12/10/2023 19:00

Every wear except jeans and maybe jumpers and cardigans. I'm fairly sweaty though despite good anti persp! I wish it was less!

AvengedQuince · 12/10/2023 19:02

Pants and cotton socks every wear
T-shirts and woollen socks as needed, usually one to three wears
Bras weekly
Jeans and jumpers as needed, a few weeks to a couple of months

Sierra259 · 12/10/2023 19:09

Pants/socks after every wear. Bra 2-3 wears. Pyjamas/jeans once a week unless obvious stain. T-shirts and jumpers I usually get 2 wears out of as I wear a uniform for work - I get changed as soon as I get in so am only wearing my own clothes for about 1-2 hours beforehand and a few hours in the evening.

lightno · 12/10/2023 19:14

Pants after every wear. Socks I sometimes wear twice. Jeans can go for 2 weeks before being washed. Tops washed after 1 wear in summer/sweaty days (when I'm running all over town) but sometimes wear twice in winter. Jumpers washed about once a month, not worn daily.
I have indoor clothes (t shirts and joggers) which I change nto at home, and they only get washed about once a week.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 12/10/2023 19:35

Everything but jeans I wash after every wear.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/10/2023 19:36

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/10/2023 13:29

After every wear unless it's jeans and u changed into them to go out the house for an hour or so I might wear them the next day

And hoodies and bras I'll wear a few times

Deadringer · 12/10/2023 19:38

Russooooo · 12/10/2023 10:25

Socks, undies, vest/t-shirt = washed after every wear.

Everything else = washed when needed (depending on spillages / smells / going out of shape etc). Usually 2-3 wears.

Me too

Nodancingshoes · 12/10/2023 19:39

Well my teenagers wear stuff for about 10 minutes and then put it in the bloody wash basket.... same with towels 😱 I will wear dresses a couple of times before washing, leggings and knickers obviously only once!

PurpleBugz · 12/10/2023 19:41

Knickers and socks daily. The rest when smells or dirty. It's not uncommon for me to wear a pair of jeans all week.
