To think any parent would do the same? Or am I bonkers

On holiday in the buffet eating dinner all I could hear was my son crying walking from the bar with his juice in his hand. I thought oh maybe he fell over so DH went over to him. Turns out that this little girl that has been picking on him for the past 2 days her dad has grabbed DS and twisted arm so tight he broke his skin and dug his nails into him. (German family)

DS has been coming to me about her saying she keeps pushing him and sticking her fingers up since they arrived. DS finally got annoyed and pushed her back earlier on in the day and she told her dad. So dad got his own back on DS.

I ran over to DH as he was shouting at the dad and the dad was just smirking and something just came over me and I punched him in the face.

Never in my life have I punched anyone and I didn’t think about the consequences at the time I just kept looking at my son he was in flood of tears.

It was the weirdest feeling I have never felt adrenaline like it.

aibu? How would you have handled it? The hotel did absolutely nothing.

Obviously you know the majority of people don't just punch other adults in the face, regardless of the provocation. You don't need a thread on MN to tell you that. But considering the racism in your posts, I don't think 'bonkers' is the word for you.

TogetherWeLearn · 11/10/2023 17:32

Adults all behaved like scumbags from the sounds of it. No wonder the children on both sides don't know how to behave.

People have lost children to murder and managed never to punch anyone. If this is your reaction it says everything anyone else might need to know about you.

Moronic statement. A fair few indeed have reacted violently in court rooms. In most cases the victims parents will never have close contact with the perpetrator - if they did there would be far fewer child murderers/rapists in prisons cos the families would have already dealt with it. Right? No. But it would happen.

This thread is bloody ridiculous & full of genuine snobs & trolls.

Imagine calling the police.
A man gave my dc a chinese burn.
They'd laugh at you.
They're not even interested in 18 year old girls being raped!

Not sure what I would have done though.
Basil Fawlty would have goose stepped around him which probably would have been more of a police matter😄

How can the skin have possibly been broken by "twisting"?

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 11/10/2023 17:40

The disgusting adult man deserved it.
I would be tempted to
Involve the police for the assault on your child but you might not want to as you hit back

duchiebun · 11/10/2023 17:40

If someone deliberately hurts my kid then in anger I probably would do that tbf 🤷🏻‍♀️

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 11/10/2023 17:41

I think you could also report to Uk police once you're home but you don't want to risk him pressing charges against you. I hope it hurt him and I hope he lost a tooth

Tapasita · 11/10/2023 17:41

@DaaamnYoullDo

If a grown man assaulted my child they'd find themself in an ambulance if they were lucky.

Sorry but this. I think I would react violently. I’d like to think I wouldn’t but I’d be so nuclear if a man hurt either one of my babies I’d not really be fully in control I don’t think & I wouldn’t give a damn for the consequences

She punched someone she didn't like the look of and who she assumed had injured her child.

Where on earth do you get this ?

From how she described what happened and her inability to confirm what she actually saw.

duchiebun · 11/10/2023 17:42

Did your hand not hurt op?

if you punch someone hard in the face it normally hurts

My immediate thought is that I would have called the police and asked to have him charged with assault. Visible marks are sufficient evidence. As a teenager, I threatened another teenager with force because of them throwing stones at my elderly dog; I think I grew up a bit since then. In the situation, I can imagine wanting to punch, but I'd much prefer to see him with a criminal record, so that's what would stop me.

NewName122 · 11/10/2023 17:49

Yes I'd have punched him too. What a horrible man.

Lastchancechica · 11/10/2023 17:52

What kind of person assaults a small child like that?

I can’t get past that.

I doubt you would have punched him had he not goaded you in he first place. I never condone violence but I don’t think you did anything wrong - you were defending your son. He will think twice next time.

Imperfectp3rf3ction · 11/10/2023 17:53

Adrenaline side of me would have done a lot more tbf

Edited

I have loved overseas for years - in reality the police will not be remotely interested in a fracas between hotel guests. You are applying U.K. police standards to other countries. In mant places I have worked they won’t even arrest men for rape.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 11/10/2023 17:55

@Mikimoto how nasty! What a horrid troll cyber bully you are! Very different to talk about a child assaulter who isn't here on this thread and to directly aim such a vile statement at someone who is, and is obviously in a difficult circumstance.

OP - any adult who deliberately physically assaults a child deserves what you did and more. No it wasn't the best example 'in the moment' but you can use it as a teaching moment to your child and reflect later what else could have been done and what you wish you'd done instead etc etc.
